  • Orgreave Lakes: Wood Sandpiper - 1 - on Small Lake from 07:30 ; Garganey - 1 - in the Small Lake ; Garganey - 1 - Drake still present 17.30, SW shore of large lake.
  • Owler Bar: Little Owl - 1 - Flew over the road into Moorlands car park at 17:40
  • R Don, Effingham St: Great Black-backed Gull - 1 - 2cy
  • Shatton: Chiffchaff - 1 - Heard ; Willow Warbler - 1 - Heard
  • Stanage Edge, below: Chiffchaff - 1 ; Lapwing - 1 ; Curlew - 1 ; Willow Warbler - 1
  • Stubley Hollow: Chiffchaff - 6 ; Blackcap - 2 ; Whitethroat - 1 ; Swallow - 5 ; 319 - 1
  • White Lee Moor: Cuckoo - 1 - calling from plantation.

Monday 27th May 2019

  • Barlow Common: Osprey - 1 - flew low over Commonside Road, showing well briefly, and heading s/w; was then mobbed by corvids. ; Skylark - 3 ; Yellowhammer - 1 ; Swift - 2+ ; Swallow - 1 ; Linnet - 17+
  • Blacka Moor(Strawberry Lee Pastures): Wheatear - 2 - f and m ; Curlew - 4 - in flight and foraging ; Mistle Thrush - 3
  • Dronfield: Magpie - 1 - Taking blue tit chicks from nest hole in wall of Old Barn.
  • Forge Dam: Red Kite - 1 - Low over café, then gained height to the south.
  • Grange Park Golf Course: Kestrel - 2 - Hunting simultaneously @ Watson's Tip,one def ad male. ; Skylark - 2 - singing @ Watson's Tip. ; Swift - 20+ - Feeding low over W end of Walkworth Wood and adj meadow. ; Swallow - 1 - Feeding low over practice range. ; Blue Tit - 1+ - Nest in metal gate post, adult feeding chicks @Brick Kiln (Extension).
  • Hagg Lane Allotments: Red Kite - 1 - Chased off by Kestrel and Jackdaws ; Swallow - 1 ; Chiffchaff - 1 ; Dunnock - 2 ; Jackdaw - 4+
  • Middleton Moor: Tern sp (Common/Arctic) - 1 - most probably Arctic for about 20 seconds in the rain and flew off ; Shelduck - 1 ; Sedge Warbler - 03-Apr ; Ringed Plover - 1 ; Yellow-legged Gull - 1
  • Midhope Res: Osprey - 1 - circled Midhope Res just before 14:00 and drifted off towards Ewden Heights

  • White Lee Moor: Marsh Harrier - 1 - cc over towards Rocher at 3.20.
  • Worrall: House Martin - 8+ - Four occupied nests under eaves of Blue Ball pub. ; House Martin - 6+ - At least three occupied nests on Towngate Road.
  • Wyming Brook: Wood Warbler - 2 - 2 trilling close to main junction on main path.

  • Aldwarke SF: Mute Swan - 6 - SW @ 0938hrs ; Gadwall - 3 - 2m; 1f ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - carrying prey ; Whitethroat - 6 - singing ; Coot - 3prs+ - broods of 2, 3 & 3 ; Lapwing - 1 - over ; Blackcap - 3 - singing ; Wren - 2prs+ - feeding fledged juvs ; Chiffchaff - 1 - singing ; Little Grebe - 1 - trilling ; Reed Bunting - 1 - male ; Tufted Duck - 1pr ; Pheasant - 1 - cock ; Stock Dove - 2
  • Aldwarke; Liberty Steel: Cormorant - 1 - on pylon
  • Bramley: Lesser Black-backed Gull - 3 - Over together calling. 2 singles seen tussling with local crows could have been same birds. ; Black-headed Gull - 3 - Over. ; Swift - 10+ - Inc pair and single entering traditional nesting sites. ; Collared Dove - 8+ - Over and on feeding station. ; Song Thrush - 3+ - Two juvs on observers garden. Others singing throughout the day at least two at a time. ; Goldfinch - 1 - On sunflower feeder.
  • Burbage Valley: Ring Ouzel - 1 - very vocal male carrying food / nest material ; Stonechat - 1 - one, possibly two, males
  • Catcliffe Flash: Sand Martin - 20+ - Feeding low over lake 13.00 ; House Martin - 20+ - Feeding alongside Sand Martin's ; Swift - 10+
  • Centenary Riverside: Whitethroat - 4 - 3 singing; 1 scolding calls
