Rotherham; Northfield: Black-headed Gull - 50-60 - feeding on swarming insects high overhead @ 1610hrs; drifted away N

Stubley Hollow: Swallow - 17 ; Chiffchaff - 4 ; Kestrel - 2 - Pair

Thrybergh CP: Hobby - 1 ; Common Sandpiper - 1 ; Oystercatcher - 2 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1

Townend Common: Tree Pipit - 1 ; Linnet - 3

Brownhills Lane: Curlew - 2 - one adult, one juvenile

Dukes Road: Golden Plover - 3 - 2 adults with at least 1 juv.

Ecclesall: Swallow - 4 - flew low to SW at 18:00 hrs - my first evidence of return movt

Middleton Moor: Redshank - 1 ; Black-tailed Godwit - 1 ; Shelduck - 3

Moorland Fringe: Nightjar - 2 - 2 males heard churring and “krruit??? calls. At least one male seen in flight.

R Don, Effingham St: Kingfisher - 1 ; Sand Martin - 6+ - visiting 3 drainage pipes on road side of river, presumed 3 breeding pairs.

R Don, Stevenson Rd: Yellow-legged Gull - 1 - adult ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - c40 - including returning colour ringed 3cy, ringed as a chick on the island of Amrum Germany in 2017.

Redmires Top Res: Black-headed Gull - c90

Rotherham Centre: Sand Martin - c5 - numbers much reduced with no activity around main colony & satellites

Upper Common, Scholes: 319 - 1 - W into Scholes Coppice @ 15:30.

Castle Dyke playing fields: Swallow - 50+ - 50+ on wire fence of cricket nets, with others hunting low over the playing fields

Chapeltown: Black-headed Gull - 2 - Ad + juv on cricket club field

Firsby Res: Moorhen - 1 ; Mallard - 7 - Resting on that shore. ; Grey Heron - 2 - In front of far reedbed. ; 319 - 1 - Hunting over site. ; Kestrel - 1 - Male over sheep paddock. ; Swift - 3 ; Swallow - 20+ ; Goldfinch - 2 - On wires. ; Linnet - 2+

Grange Park Golf Course: 319 - 3 - together over Walkworth Wood, at least one calling. ; Stock Dove - 1 - singing ; Swift - 1+ ; House Martin - 1+ ; Kestrel - 1 - from E edge of Watson's Tip.
