  • Brownhills Lane: Kestrel - 1 - on telegraph post eating prey which appeared to be a rat
  • Catcliffe Flash: Mute Swan - 2+ - ad pr + single juv ; Mallard - 50+ ; Gadwall - 20+ ; Pochard - 4 - 4 male ; Tufted Duck - 1 - fem ; Cormorant - 1 ; Little Grebe - 2+ - 1 occupied nest ; Moorhen - 5+ ; Coot - 27+ - 2 occupied nests, still no new chicks
  • Malin Bridge: Oystercatcher - 1 - over calling at 00:03
  • Middleton Moor: Shelduck - 1 ; Yellow-legged Gull - 1 - Adult
  • Orgreave Lakes: Shelduck - 1 - juv in evening ; Whimbrel - 5 - over main lake calling, circled round and left W. ; Dunlin - 1 - heard only ; Common Sandpiper - 3 ; Little Egret - 7 - including colour ringed K6 ; Peregrine - 1 - ad fem over towards Bolehill. ; Wigeon - 2 - pair on small lake ; Little Ringed Plover - 1 - juv ; Yellow-legged Gull - 3 - adults including a tailless bird briefly before heading NW. ; Common Gull - 1 - ad ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - c50 - washing off briefly before heading off NW, birds roosting on Great Bear warehouse and surrounding roofs off Shepcote lane. ; Little Grebe - 6 - 4 ad + 2 juvs ; Peregrine - 1 - juvenile female ; Shoveler - 1

  • Ecclesall: Swift - 62 - flew SW in just 10 minutes from 17:50 - 18:00 hrs
  • Hudson*s Rough: 319 - 1 - Over @ 10:45. ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - calls ; Wren - 1+ - singing ; Robin - 1+ - calls ; Blackbird - 5+ ; Blackcap - 1 - singing ; Chiffchaff - 1 - singing ; Nuthatch - 1 - calls ; Jay - 1+ ; Magpie - 1+
  • Kimberworth Park: Swift - 50+ - Circling over Grey Hill and Remount Road, 07:20.
  • Leadmill Bridge: Canada Goose - 17
  • Malin Bridge: Swift - 30+ - Most of the day,30-50 + swifts screaming high up with groups of 5-6 coming down to below heave level along Norris rd.At 19:45 ,50+ swifts with flock of 30+ black headed gulls in thermals high up over Norris road area.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Little Egret - 6 ; Common Sandpiper - 2
  • R Don, Effingham St: Yellow-legged Gull - 1 - adult ; Moorhen - 4 - two pairs with 3 and 2 small chicks, close together ; Grey Heron - 1 - picking Minnows from large shoal.
  • R Don, Stevenson Road: Yellow-legged Gull - 1 - adult ; Common Gull - 1 - ad ; Black-headed Gull - c220 - feeding on insects on ground ; Herring Gull - 5 ; Kingfisher - 2 - noisy chasing, presumably juvs ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 30
  • Redmires: Raven - 07-Oct - Seven over Stanedge driftng north and five minutes later three moving low to s.w from reservoirs.
