  • Ecclesall Road: Waxwing - 200 - over 200 gathered in tall trees, then smaller flocks swooping down to berries in Cemetery Avenue.
  • Ecclesall Waitrose Car Park: Waxwing - c150
  • Edge Mount: Brambling - c75 - c60 in beech trees north end of Delf rd , 15 at south end .
  • Graves Park: Ring-necked Parakeet - 2 - at the Old Norton Nursery Site at 10:25, hassled by Jackdaws.
  • Kimberworth: Pheasant - 1 - Female at the bottom of the garden.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Goosander - 4 ; Goosander - 4 ; Gadwall - circa 20 ; Wigeon - 40+ ; Goldeneye - 1 - redhead
  • Parkgate Canal Basin: Mute Swan - c80 - inc 13 2cy ; Whooper Swan - 1 - 2cy again with MS herd ; Mallard - 7 ; Song Thrush - 1
  • Peat Pits: Stonechat - 2 - m+f on stone wall . ; Waxwing - 4 - in ash tree tops at farm pre dawn .
  • R Derwent, Chatsworth: Little Grebe - 2 ; Shoveler - 1m
  • R Don, Attercliffe: Dipper - 2 - Two birds. Lots of chasing, singing and attempted drowning. Directly below attercliffe common under Washford road bridge.
  • Rotherham; Gin House Lane/Primrose Hill: Great Black-backed Gull - 70-80 ; Herring Gull - 200-250 ; Grey Wagtail - 1
  • Salmon pastures: Kingfisher - 1 ; Redwing - 36
  • Sheffield Centre: Waxwing - 25 - c25 flew east over St Mary's Gate at 10:00 - heading towards Arundel Gate area

  • Ulley Village: BEAN GOOSE (Tundra/Taiga) - 1 - adult 'rossicus' still with goose flock feeding in field SW of village from dawn to 0940hrs at least ; Greylag Goose - 80-85 - feeding in field from before dawn with birds arriving from direction of Orgreave ; Canada Goose - 1 ; Pink-footed Goose - 1 ; Mistle Thrush - 13

  • Wickersley: Waxwing - 8 - by shops

Saturday 7th January 2017

  • Corner Duchess Rd and Shoreham St: Waxwing - 200+ - The birds were feeding on rowan berries in the grounds of the Duchess Road Community Centre and resting in the nearby tall trees. Count was obtained from examining photographs.
  • Duchess Road, Sheffield: Waxwing - 50+ - large flock seen distantly from St Mary's Gate in tree tops - approx vicinity of Duchess Road ; Waxwing - 60+ - at 11.35
  • Ecclesall: Waxwing - 110 - 80+ in and out during the afternoon with 110 at 15.20. PHOTOGRAPHERS: PLEASE DON'T STAND DIRECTLY UNDER THE ROWANS, BACK OFF AT LEAST 5 YARDS AND ALLOW THE BIRDS TO FEED! ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - adult male made unsuccessful attempt at Waxwing/Redwing flock briefly landing in tree ; Waxwing - 50+ - Flock of c50 on Cemetery Ave, largely prevented from feeding on the yellow berried rowan due to people being too close. ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 2 - bouncing around together overhead ; Waxwing - c.100 - Cemetery Ave, 14:15 - after some fed they all flew off
