  • Thrybergh CP: Bullfinch - 18 - 2-2-2-12 ; Reed Bunting - 6 ; Yellowhammer - 3 - 3m, 1 singing ; Golden Plover - 20 - On winter wheat field adjacent to Thrybergh lane. ; Lapwing - 1 - With Golden plovers. ; Red-legged Partridge - 2 - In same field ; Kestrel - 1 - Female in Ash Tree near pump house.
  • Tinsley: Magpie - 2 - pair nest building .
  • Whiteley Woods: Dipper - 2 - Again seen with nesting material
  • Woodhouse Washlands: Snipe - 2 ; Jack Snipe - 5

Monday 26th February 2018

  • Bingham Park: Kingfisher - 1 - Male fishing on semi-frozen pond
  • Brownhills Lane: Greylag Goose - 48 - including a striking domesticated/leucistic bird, no doubt the reported Snow Goose. ; Canada Goose - 23 ; Golden Plover - 5 ; Lapwing - 6 ; Greylag Goose - 1 - Note about largely white bird: from photo it may well be the bird that appeared at Hillsborough Park on 8th February and was reported as 'possibly not pure [domestic] Greylag'
  • Crookes Valley Park: Moorhen - 5 - including one sitting on nest ; Coot - 4 - including one sitting on nest, apparently incubating eggs ; Black-headed Gull - 90 - on lake ; Common Gull - 2 - first-winters with BHGs; uncommon here
  • Endcliffe Park: Mandarin - 2 - m+f lower lake at 7:35 ; Goosander - 2 - m+f lower lake at 7:35
  • Forge Dam: Mandarin - 2 - Male & female ; Mandarin - 2
  • Greystones: Blackcap - 1 - Female, daily visitor for the last few weeks ; Bullfinch - 2 - Male & female in observer's garden, frequent visitors for past few weeks
  • Howden Res: PARROT CROSSBILL - 12 ; Crossbill - 2 ; Whooper Swan - 1
  • Hurlfield: Tawny Owl - 1+ - 1 bird calling from tree on Hurl Field.18:30 and it or another in observers back garden 18:33.
  • Porter Valley: Kingfisher - 1 - Feeding on top pond near Shepherds wheel. Successfully caught and ate 3 fish.
  • R Don, Stevenson Rd: Lesser Black-backed Gull - 5 - 4 ad, 1 1w.
  • Rawmarsh:Haugh Rd: Golden Plover - 5 - briefly on playing field @ 15.30.
  • Rivelin Filters: Lapwing - 25 - on fields north side of Manchester Road west of junction with Rivelin Valley Road
  • Stanage Edge, below: Brambling - 1 - Single male amongst mixed group of Chaffinch and Tits at Hollin Bank feeders ; Siskin - 1 - male at Hollin Bank feeders ; Robin - 4 ; Long-tailed Tit - 2 ; Nuthatch - 1 ; Chaffinch - 8 ; Goldfinch - 1 ; Coal Tit - 2 ; Great Tit - 2 ; Blue Tit - 2 ; Pheasant - 1 ; Blackbird - 2
  • Thrybergh CP: Great Crested Grebe - 1 ; Little Grebe - 2 ; Mute Swan - 12 - inc.7left sw ; Gadwall - 5 ; Pochard - 6 - m ; Tufted Duck - 18 ; Black-headed Gull - 150+ ; Herring Gull - 4 ; Wren - 2 ; Dunnock - 15 ; Robin - 21 ; Song Thrush - 2 - sing ; Blackbird - 14 ; Bullfinch - 17 - inc.13 at feed stat ; Reed Bunting - 7 - at feed stat. ; Yellowhammer - 2 - at feed stat. ; Water Rail - 3 - came for food
  • Whiteley Woods: Dipper - 2 - seen together, depositing nesting material near last year's breeding site

  • Aldwarke SF: Raven - 2 - low over to S @ 0954hrs, before heading off E/SE towards Silverwood ; Coot - 5 ; Mallard - 3 - 2m; 1f ; 320 - 08-Oct ; Shoveler - 10 ; Gadwall - 7 ; Pheasant - 1 - cock ; Grey Heron - 4 - left, & joined by 3 more from river
  • Blackburn Meadows NR: 319 - 8 - High over, displaying .15.00
  • Bradfield: Goldcrest - 2 - flitting around at side of river near car park
  • Bray Plantation: Woodpigeon - 1 - singing ; Wren - 2+ - singing ; Robin - 1 - singing ; Long-tailed Tit - 1+ ; Coal Tit - 1 - singing ; Blue Tit - 1 - singing ; Great Tit - 1+ - singing ; Nuthatch - 2 - 1 singing ; Magpie - 1 ; Goldfinch - 1+
