• Burbage Valley: Whinchat - 1 - fem ; Stonechat - 6+ ; Cuckoo - 1 - still singing in plantation ; Ring Ouzel - 1 - male singing ; Pied Wagtail - 2 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Curlew - 3 ; Cuckoo - 2 - singing till almost dark
• Canklow Woods: Lesser Whitethroat - 1 - 1 singing
• Midhope Res: 319 - 1 ; Linnet - 1 ; Snipe - 1 - Chipping with crows around ; Grey Heron - 2 ; Moorhen - 4 ; Oystercatcher - 4 - Adult pair and 2 growing young ; Little Grebe - 6 - All adults ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 2 - Single adults west ; Sparrowhawk - 1 ; Willow Warbler - 2 - singing ; Chiffchaff - 1 - singing ; Cuckoo - 1 ; Common Sandpiper - 1 ; Lapwing - 8 ; Curlew - 1 ; 320 - 1 - male ; Song Thrush - 1 - singing ; Blackcap - 2 - singing ; Swallow - 1 ; Tufted Duck - 5 - 4m, 1f ; Kestrel - 1 ; Pied Wagtail - 4 - Adult + 3 young ; Skylark - 1 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 male
• Padley: Pied Flycatcher - 5 - males ; Redstart - 2 - pair busy collecting insects ; Spotted Flycatcher - 1 ; Treecreeper - 1 ; Mistle Thrush - 2 - juvs ; Song Thrush - 1
• R Don, Effingham St: Canada Goose - 6 - including the usual pair that have appeared recently with 6 goslings (not the pair that attempted to breed and failed on the island). ; Herring Gull - c20 - mainly imms, with a 2cy road casualty. ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - c30 - inc a dead adult at the side of the river near the Bailey Bridge (bird flu?) ; Moorhen - 4 - one incubating, and another at an empty nest. ; Sand Martin - c5 - at least a couple of pairs in the wall.
• R Don, Stevenson Road: Little Egret - 1 - flew upstream ; 321 - 1 - feeding in river ; Sand Martin - 15+ - around the nesting walls
• R Sheaf, Broadfield Rd: Mandarin - 12 - Including female with two small ducklings. ; Grey Wagtail - 1 - Only one seen in 2.5km between Millhouses Park and Saxon Road. Usually three to four territories in that stretch.
• R. Sheaf, Duchess Rd: Sand Martin - 8+ - At least two entering holes in building foundations, perhaps feeding young? Others flying along river, apparently feeding.
• Redmires: Swallow - 10 ; Pied Wagtail - 1 ; Curlew - 5 ; Lapwing - 7 - 1 Juvenile ; 319 - 2 - Circling together ; Greylag Goose - 20 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Meadow Pipit - 5 ; Kestrel - 2 - Flying together ; Linnet - 1 - Worn ; Willow Warbler - 1
• Shirecliffe: Common Buzzard - 2 - soaring
• Silverwood Lagoon: BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 4+ - two pairs feeding young - Access from Hollins Lane, SK478941, please park sensibly and keep to the paths to avoid disturbance. ; Hobby - 1 - made a brief pass amongst HM then south at 09.45 ; House Martin - c.20 ; Reed Warbler - 3+ - 3 singing, several others calling in reedbeds ; Reed Bunting - 2 - singing ; Gadwall - 1 - female and 7 chicks
• Snake Pass: Redstart - 2 - pair taking food into nest ; Redstart - 1 - singing male ; Redstart - 1 - singing male ; Ring Ouzel - 1 - Male feeding around sheepfold. First time birds seen in this suitable habitat ; Ring Ouzel - 3 ; Common Sandpiper - 1 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; 319 - 1 - mobbed by Meadow Pipits ; Spotted Flycatcher - 1 ; House Martin - 1 ; Cuckoo - 1 - all morning ; Mistle Thrush - 1 - carrying food to nest frequently ; Song Thrush - 3 - 3 singing males in close proximity. One mimicking Curlew and Tree Pipit song elements ; Blackbird - 3 - males. becoming more common/numerous at this site ; Crossbill - 3+ - party of 3 inc 1 male feeding. Solo male flew over later. ; Siskin - 30+
• Thrybergh CP: Common Tern - 1 ; Oystercatcher - 1+ - Appears to now have young ; Kestrel - 2 - Birds bring food back to nest site
• Underbank Res: Whooper Swan - 1 ; Siskin - 04-May ; Blackcap - 4 - 2 singing with another pair taking food to nest. ; Common Sandpiper - Pair ; Grey Wagtail - 1 - female ; Goldcrest - 3 - singing
• Whitwell Moor: Grasshopper Warbler - 1
• Wyming Brook: Cuckoo - 1 - Calling ; Song Thrush - 1 ; Willow Warbler - 1 - Singing ; Chiffchaff - 2 - Singing
