  • Centenary Riverside: Grey Wagtail - 1 - over ; Blackcap - 3 - 2m (1singing) + 1f/juv ; Chiffchaff - 3 ; Grey Heron - 2 - inc 1 SW ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - calling ; Swallow - 2 - S/SW ; Mallard - 7 ; Moorhen - 3+ - 2+ ads + 1juv ; Greenfinch - 3 ; Cormorant - 1 - flew downriver
  • Coombs Dale: Red Kite - 1 ; Spotted Flycatcher - 1 ; Garden Warbler - 1
  • Kimberworth: Wren - 1 - Roosting pouch on house wall has been turned into a nest. At least 3 gapes observed. Wren uses pouch all year round.
  • Parkgate Canal Basin: Mute Swan - 23 - inc 6 in from NE ; Black-headed Gull - c40 - inc 2 juvs ; Mallard - 6
  • R Don, Rotherham Centre; adjacent interchange: Grey Wagtail - 3 ; Mallard - 17 - mostly juvs of varying ages ; Pied Wagtail - 1 - female ; Black-headed Gull - 6 ; Sand Martin - 01-Feb - around colony; presumably majority of juvs now fledged & gone
  • Redmires Middle Res: Yellow-legged Gull - 2 - adult and 2nd year on shoreline in the morning
  • Redmires Top Res: Raven - 3 ; Common Sandpiper - 1+ - adult and 2 small chicks ; Lesser Redpoll - 1 - adult ; Little Ringed Plover - 1 - adult ; Nuthatch - 1 - imm in conifers
  • Thrybergh CP: Mute Swan - 67 - inc.2pr with yng 2y3y and 6 -4leaving sw ; Greylag Goose - 18 - left ne ; Gadwall - 8 - a pr with 6y ; Tufted Duck - 33 ; Kestrel - 1+ - ad hunting with yng calling from treetop ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 - ad ; Common Tern - 1 - ad fishing ; Swift - 12 - party ; Whitethroat - 2 ; Reed Warbler - 1 - singing ; Willow Warbler - 2 - singing ; Chiffchaff - 1 - singing ; Reed Bunting - 4 - 3 singing ; Yellowhammer - 1 - singing
  • Treeton Dyke: Pochard - 4 - pair with 2 fledged juvs. ; Gadwall - 1+ - female with 6 chicks ; Kingfisher - 1 ; Reed Warbler - 2 - on tip pools.

Saturday 7th July 2018

  • Brownhills Lane: Kestrel - 2 - in roadside tree at 06:00
  • Halfway: Reed Warbler - 3 - singing
  • Langsett Res: Oystercatcher - 2+ - at least 2 present ; Goosander - 1 - redhead ; Greylag Goose - 10+ - 3 adults and at least 10 juvs
  • Redmires Middle Res: Ringed Plover - one - also one LRP and one Common Sandpiper
  • Stanage Edge: Red Grouse - 2+ - females with one well-grown juv each; one flushed by dog off the lead

Friday 6th July 2018

  • Bents Green: 324 - 1 - Hummingbird Hawk Moth feeding on lavender
  • Endcliffe Park: Dipper - 1 - Hunters Bar at 07:30 ; Swift - 6 - circling over recreation area then passing by eaves of house in Rustlings Road
  • Hangingwater garden: Swift - 17 - circling over then S
  • Langsett Res: Spotted Flycatcher - 2 ; Crossbill - 4+ ; Goosander - 1 - female ; Common Sandpiper - 2 ; Oystercatcher - 2
  • Middleton Moor: Shelduck - 1 ; Curlew - 12 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 7 ; Lapwing - 2 ; 320 - 1 ; Tufted Duck - 3
  • Nether Green: 319 - 6 - 6 birds (adults and juveniles) circulating on updrafts. Calling and playing. Headed West over Fulwood ; Swift - 20+ - Largest flock seen this year.
  • R Don, Norfolk Bridge: Yellow-legged Gull - 3 - adult, 3cy and juv ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - c180 - including 5 juveniles ; Herring Gull - 4
  • Redmires Middle Res: Redshank - 1
  • Redmires Top Res: Little Ringed Plover - 3 - 2 adults and one juvenile
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Grasshopper Warbler - 1 - reeling in meadows at Hollings Lane end of pit top at 07.35
  • Thrybergh CP: Great Crested Grebe - 9 - inc.pr with 3y ; Mute Swan - 48 - inc 5y ; Tufted Duck - 23 - 3f ; 319 - 1 - soar in se ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - soar in s ; Kestrel - 1 - in se ; Common Tern - 1 - stayed 30mins ; Swift - 25+ - high ; Pied Wagtail - 3 - jv ; Yellow Wagtail - 2 ; Blackcap - 3 - singing ; Reed Warbler - 1 - singing ; Whitethroat - 4 - 2 singing ; Willow Warbler - 1 - 1 singing ; Chiffchaff - 4 - singing ; Tree Sparrow - 4 - ad +3jv

  • Barbrook Valley: Whinchat - 4 - 2 ad and 2 juv
  • Cowell Flat: Woodcock - 1 - flushed from the road by car
  • Holmesfield Common: Little Owl - 1
  • Howden Res: Cuckoo - 1 - adult flew over from Ridge Clough before landing in a tree on Bosen Holes.
  • Lodge Moor: Peregrine - 1
  • Longshaw: Green Woodpecker - 1 - Flew towards surprise view
  • Malin Bridge: Golden Plover - 1+ - heard calling over house at night, including call usually made by birds in a flock
  • Manor Fields Park: House Martin - 6
