  • Redmires Res: Lesser Black-backed Gull - 25 - c. ; Herring Gull - 4 ; Black-headed Gull - 40 - c. ; Willow Warbler - 14 ; Sedge Warbler - 1 - Juv in bracken bed by Middle Res ; Blackcap - 4 ; Wood Warbler - 1 - in mature trees by Top Res + called several times ; Tree Pipit - 1 - flew SW over Middle Res at 07:45 hrs ; Lesser Redpoll - 1 - in Fairthorn Clough ; Sand Martin - 2 - One flew SW with Swallows + another later seen on wires by farm on Soughley Lane ; Swallow - 60 - c. on wires by farm on Soughley Lane ; House Martin - 1 - with Swallows on Soughley Lane ; Song Thrush - 2
  • Redmires Top Res: Black-headed Gull - 20 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 100 ; Tufted Duck - 4 ; Grey Wagtail - 2 ; Greylag Goose - 10 ; Herring Gull - 4
  • Soughley Lane, Redmires: Swallow - 40 - Gathering on wires
  • Stocksbridge: Raven - 3 - 3 flew north calling
  • Treeton Tip: BITTERN - 1 ; Marsh Harrier - 1 - juv, a surprise to both of us, flew up from small reedbed, called once when flushed, and headed low over towards Treeton Dyke. ; 324 - 1 - Willow Emerald Damselfy, male in phrag and sallows at SE end of reedy pool on forgemasters tip at SK434867. ; Water Rail - 1+ - sharming from reedbed ; Reed Warbler - 1 - juv

Tuesday 9th August 2022

  • Burbage Rocks: Ring Ouzel - 1 - recently fledged ; Wheatear - 2 - Juveniles
  • Dog Kennel Pond: 319 - 1 - mobbed by several Carrion Crows
  • Dore: House Martin - 2 ; Swallow - 1
  • Green Moor: Mistle Thrush - 12 - A good number here ; Swallow - 150+ - Numbers increasing, many juvs ; Stonechat - 2 ; Linnet - 20+
  • Low Common: Wheatear - 1 - juvenile, active around rock piles between lakes,18:45, probably same bird seen earlier in day.
  • Middle Common: Kestrel - 1 - juv/f on tel. pole
  • Morley Pond: Mute Swan - 6 - Resident family, still with 4 juvs ; Kingfisher - 1 - first seen at location this spring/summer
  • Norfolk Park: Swift - 30+ - 30-50 feeding high up at 18:15
  • Norton Lees: Tawny Owl - 1 - heard in the early hours
  • Orgreave Lakes: Greenshank - 2 ; Dunlin - 2 ; Curlew - 1 - high south ; Lapwing - 23 ; Wheatear - 1 - 1st year ; Yellow Wagtail - 2 ; Tufted Duck - 142 ; Pochard - 31 ; Little Grebe - 11 - including an adult with two dependent Chicks. ; Wheatear - 1 ; Wheatear - 1
  • Ramsley Moor: Redstart - 3 ; Stonechat - 11 - total of 11 including juvs ; Blackcap - 3 ; Whitethroat - 1 ; Garden Warbler - 1 ; Sparrowhawk - 1
  • Rawmarsh: Swift - 1 - just one over briefly @ 0830hrs after mass exodus of last few days
  • Redmires conduit: Kestrel - 1 - Female
  • Rother Valley CP: Wood Sandpiper - 1 - Juv on Meadowgate Lake late afternoon.
  • Silverwood Lagoon: BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 1 - At least one juvenile still. ; Shoveler - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - c20 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 8
  • Stubley Hollow: House Martin - 70+ - inc. 20 juvs sitting on a hedge ; Jackdaw - 65 ; Swallow - 16 ; House Sparrow - 16
  • Wadsley Common garden: Black-headed Gull - c50 - low over garden heading west.

Monday 8th August 2022

  • Burbage Valley: Stonechat - 12 ; Meadow Pipit - 7 ; Willow Warbler - 2 ; Song Thrush - 1 ; Reed Bunting - 2 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Raven - 2 - Together
  • Edensor: House Martin - 30+ - flying together around church spire
  • Green Moor: Red-legged Partridge - 3 ; Wheatear - 1 ; Swallow - 50+ - On wires, many juvs ; House Martin - 20+ - On wires some juvs ; Rook - 50+ ; Tawny Owl - 1 ; Magpie - 7 ; Meadow Pipit - 20+
  • Hathersage: House Martin - 4 - 0ld nest on Back Lane re-used after 3 years, Parents feeding offspring assiduously for @ least 7 days, & today 2 well-grown juveniles left the nest!
  • Norton Lees: Long-tailed Tit - c7 - family party
  • Orgreave Lakes: Greenshank - 2 ; Dunlin - 2 ; Yellow Wagtail - 1 ; Little Egret - 1 ; Little Grebe - 11 - including an adult with two dependent chicks ; Swift - 2
  • R Don. Effingham St: Yellow-legged Gull - 2 - Adults ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 14 ; Black-headed Gull - 21 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Mallard - 12 - Including 2 3/4 grown chicks.
