  • Catcliffe Flash: Gadwall - 10 ; Great Crested Grebe - 1
  • Froggatt Bridge: Mandarin - 8 - family party with well-grown imms ; Moorhen - 4 - including 3 well-grown imms ; Mallard - 1+ - female with 4 half-grown juvs
  • Grange Golf Course: Swallow - 10 - Feeding above club house.
  • Greystones: Swift - 4 - Over observer's garden
  • Orgreave Lakes: Swift - 4 ; Tufted Duck - 28 ; Black-headed Gull - 115 ; Great Crested Grebe - 16 ; Pochard - 18 ; Little Egret - 3 ; Little Grebe - 2 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 5 ; Herring Gull - 1 ; Pied Wagtail - 1 ; House Martin - 1 ; Greylag Goose - 2 ; Long-tailed Tit - 1 ; Wren - 1 ; Linnet - 2 ; Tufted Duck - 155 - Total including at least 15 ducklings. ; Curlew - 1 - West ; Redstart - 1 - Juvenile along southern fence line by access to playing fields. First site record.
  • Parkgate; *Banana* plantation: Chiffchaff - 5+ - inc 1 singing ; Sparrowhawk - 03-Apr - juv calls from woodland; 3-4 birds seen flying through canopy ; Linnet - 4 - N ; Goldcrest - 1 - calling ; Blackcap - 1 - calling from woodland ; Greenfinch - 2 - N ; House Martin - 03-Apr - feeding over plantation ; Swift - 12 - passing through quite high to S/SW ; Swallow - 8 - party arrived from N & fed over plantation
  • Pebley Pond: Little Egret - 1 ; Peregrine - 1 - juv chasing adult Common Tern low over water, unsuccessfully. ; Common Tern - 5 - family party, 3 juvs, later seen at RVCP.
  • Rawmarsh; Barber*s Avenue: Swallow - 3 - over playing field; left S ; Linnet - 1 - N over playing field
  • Rawmarsh; High Street: Swift - c30 - S/SW around 1200hrs
  • Redmires Res: Grasshopper Warbler - 1 - still reeling on southern side of Middle Res ; Crossbill - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - 22 - flew SW ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 7 ; Herring Gull - 2 ; Swallow - 25 - c. ; Common Buzzard - 1 - juv calling from wood ; Siskin - 4 - family party by Top Res
  • Rother Valley CP: Common Tern - 5 - Family group on Meadowgate Lake, flew East.
  • Roundwood Ponds: Cormorant - 8 - max, on pylon overlooking ponds
  • RVCP: Common Tern - 7 - 3juvs,,3ads,, 1 first summer
  • RVCP, Meadowgate Lake: Common Tern - 6 - 3 ad, 3 juv ; Greylag Goose - c40 - inc orange neck collared HVZ
  • Thorpe Hesley: House Martin - 10
  • Waverley: Little Ringed Plover - 1 - Adult by AMRC ; Ringed Plover - 1 - Adult by AMRC

Friday 28th July 2023

  • Hathersage: Swift - 30 - several screaming parties over the swimming pool; presumably family parties
  • Middleton Moor: Lesser Black-backed Gull - 450 ; Yellow-legged Gull - 8 ; Common Gull - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - 1 ; Little Ringed Plover - 2 ; Tufted Duck - 5 ; 320 - 2 ; Reed Warbler - 2 - Still singing ; Reed Bunting - 6 - incl recently fledged juvs ; Shelduck - 8 - Pair with 6 well grown young ; Peregrine - 1 - Juvenile. Arrived 10.05, attempted to take Carrion Crow. Perched on shore and still present 10.20
  • Nether Edge: House Martin - 4+ - Including adults visiting a nest at the junction of Empire Road and Abbeydale Road.
  • Owlthorpe: Grasshopper Warbler - 1
  • R Sheaf, Broadfield Road: Mandarin - 21
  • Redmires Res: Crossbill - 8 - flew high to the E ; Peregrine - 1 - juv still present around Middle Res ; Sand Martin - 2 - flew SW
  • Rotherham; Meadowbank Road: Swift - 5 - party, chasing low over rooftops ; House Martin - 1 - low over rooftops in area where breeding usually takes place
  • Wadsley Common: 324 - 2 - Pair of Roe Deer again in field to west of Aldene Ave
  • Wadsley Common garden: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 3 - 3 juveniles on feeders-never had so many juveniles before.

Thursday 27th July 2023

  • Brincliffe Edge: Meadow Pipit - 1 - Wholly unexpected; a new species for garden list.
  • Crookes: Peregrine - 1 - flew low over School Road heading E mobbed by Swifts, carrying prey item (probably a Swift) ; Swift - 15 - mobbing Peregrine over School Road
  • Darnall: Little Egret - 1 - unusual location on 5-a- side football pitch, Ouseburn Rd Open Space, at 08:30
  • Foxhill: House Sparrow - c20 - Resident flock taking turns to bathe in rainwater filled lids of fatball tubs
  • Greystones: House Sparrow - 52 ; Swift - 1 - over observer's garden ; Swift - 08-Oct - Over flats at the bottom of Greystones Rd.
  • Nether Edge: Swift - 22 - Screaming party over Nether Edge Bowling Club at 21:15.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Little Egret - 6 ; Shoveler - 1 ; 328 - 1 - male type (probably Tufted x Pochard) on Small Lake. ; Common Sandpiper - 2 ; Oystercatcher - 1 ; Reed Warbler - 2 - Pair carrying food in reedbed on northern shore. ; Hobby - 1 - Adult hunting hirundines
  • Ramsley Moor: Swift - 1 - West ; Lesser Redpoll - 6 ; Siskin - 3 ; Reed Bunting - 5 ; Chiffchaff - 3 ; Willow Warbler - 4
