  • Coombs Dale: Redstart - 4 - 2 pairs ; 319 - 1 ; Goldfinch - 2 ; Swallow - 2 ; Skylark - 2+ ; Spotted Flycatcher - 1+ - 1 juv seen plus others heard nearby ; Chiffchaff - 1 - heard ; 324 - 1+ - Ringlet butterfly; also 2 Small Tortoiseshell & a number of Meadow Brown
  • Derwent Dam: 337 - 1 - over dam W to E at 14:02 perhaps heading towards Back Tor - record shot
  • Derwent Moors: 337 - 1 - reported 1mile east of Ladybower Res till 09:28 over Derwent Moors from A57 by Ashopton Cutthroat Bridge bus stop. Then heading back low over Derwent Edge towards Salt Cellar & maybe Back Tor at c10:15
  • Foulstone Delph: Black-headed Gull - c85 - heading W at 19:00 in a single flock ; Common Gull - 2 - W with BHG
  • Greystones: Sparrowhawk - 1 - unsuccessful hunt in observer's garden ; Swift - 1 ; Long-tailed Tit - 4 - Juvs ; Swift - 10
  • Holling Dale: Crossbill - c20 - over start of Foulstone track.
  • Kimberworth: Song Thrush - 1 - snacking on ants in the gaps between patio flag stones.
  • Margery Hill: 337 - 1 - Just south of Margery Hill on Howden Edge. Dropped down into Derwent Valley at 10:35 ; Kestrel - 2 - Mobbed by Merlin ; Golden Plover - 2 ; Swallow - 1 ; Curlew - 1 ; Red Grouse - 6 ; Merlin - 1 - Female, vigorously moving Kestrel ; Meadow Pipit - 4 ; Wren - 1
  • Norton Lees garden: Robin - 32 adults feeding one newly-fledged young - 2 adults feeding one newly-fledged young
  • Rawmarsh: Sparrowhawk - 1 - W/SW @ 1920hrs; big, so probably female
  • Rawmarsh; Rockcliffe Road: Song Thrush - 1 - singing @ 0525hrs
  • Redmires Top Res: Curlew - 6 - In Hammonds Field ; Lapwing - 2 - With Curlew ; Spotted Flycatcher - 1 ; Mistle Thrush - 2 ; Coal Tit - 3 - Juveniles
  • Rivelin Valley: Crossbill - 12 - Flying north over Hallamshire Golf Club
  • Sothall: Little Ringed Plover - 1 - nocmig sound recorded 0021hr
  • Stanage Edge: Swallow - 8 ; Swift - 1 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Meadow Pipit - 5
  • Woodhouse Washlands: Mandarin - 2

Wednesday 15th July 2020

  • Brownhills Lane: Swallow - 2
  • Canklow: House Sparrow - 13 - feeding in garden
  • Endcliffe Park: Swift - 2
  • Greenhill: Swift - c30 - Flying over east at 18:00
  • Greystones: Swift - 5 - over
  • Howden Moor: Ring Ouzel - 3 - Male on way to Lammergeier roost watchpoint and female with at least 1 Juv below watchpoint opposite roost site. ; 337 - 1 - After roosting late last night due to disturbance, no sign this morning at roost after the fog cleared at 6am, and no further sign until 1pm when it was reported drifting S over Lost Lad in poor weather.
  • Moor Side. Ewden Valley: 337 - 1 - Flying, heading south towards Dukes Road at 16:20
  • Rawmarsh; Rockcliffe Road: Song Thrush - 1 - singing, 0450hrs & again from 0620hrs
  • Redmires: Mistle Thrush - 2 - Adult feeding juv ; Greylag Goose - 10 - inc juv ; Kestrel - 1 ; Meadow Pipit - 2+
  • RVCP, Main Lake: Grey Heron - 10 ; Cormorant - 7
  • RVCP, Meadowgate Lake: Little Egret - 2

Tuesday 14th July 2020

  • Beauchief Golf Course: 319 - 1 - Over ; Kestrel - 1 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Mandarin - 1 - Male
  • Dog Kennel Pond: Great Crested Grebe - 3 - family - male caught fish passed it to female who fed juv ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Greylag Goose - 26 ; Mallard - 40+ ; Tufted Duck - 1 ; Sedge Warbler - 1 - singing from W end SK402964. ; Chiffchaff - 1 - singing, N side ; Treecreeper - 1+ - calling, S side
  • Ewden Valley: 337 - 1 - circling over shooting lodge in Ewden Valley at c10:00 mobbed by Ravens, heading back towards Dukes Rd
  • Firsby Res: Coot - 5 ; Moorhen - 2 ; Mallard - 4+ ; Pied Wagtail - 2 - juvs in horse paddock. ; 319 - 3 - Tattered adults soaring together Fully grown chick now sat out of nest. ; Swift - 6+ ; House Martin - 10+ ; Swallow - 2 ; Mistle Thrush - 13 - Over together. ; Goldcrest - 2 ; Skylark - 2 - Singing. ; Reed Warbler - 1 - Sluice reed bed. ; Blackcap - 1 - Singing Male. ; Chiffchaff - 2 ; Goldfinch - 1 ; Siskin - 2 - Over calling.
  • Greystones: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Flew over observer's garden with prey in claws ; Swift - 3 - over
  • Kimberworth: Long-tailed Tit - 7 - All feeding together on garden fatball feeder.
  • Kimberworth Park: Kestrel - 1
  • Low Common: Lapwing - 30+ - adults and juvs resting in ploughed field with 40+ Black headed gulls.
  • Margery Hill: 337 - 1 - circling over at c07:40
  • Meersbrook Park: Swift - 1
  • Middleton Moor: Ringed Plover - 1 ; Whinchat - 2+ - pair and 2 juvs
  • Morley Pond: Cormorant - 1 - W ; Great Crested Grebe - 1 ; Mute Swan - 2 - 1 pair ; Mallard - 20+
