  • Dore: Blackcap - 1 - a male nectar-feeding on flowering mahonia bush in observer’s garden
  • Intake: Waxwing - 1 - present all day in trees in grounds of Chatsworth Grange Nursing Home.
  • R Don, Effingham St: Goosander - 11 - 2 drakes, coming to bread with Mallard
  • Thrybergh CP: Mute Swan - 27 ; Tufted Duck - 89 ; Goldeneye - 2 - 2 redheads ; Goosander - 1 - redhead ; Little Grebe - 3 ; Great Crested Grebe - 3 ; Nuthatch - 1 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1
  • Walkley: Waxwing - 23 - Commonside- took off from one tree then landed in another

Sunday 26th November 2023

  • Aldwarke; Liberty Steels: Great Black-backed Gull - 6 - all adults, SW together, probably to recycling centre in town ; Peregrine - 1 - plucking/eating prey on chimney briefly
  • Brown Edge Farm: SNOW BUNTING - 1 - Sighted by at least two observers over 3 days but now (5th Dec) appears to have moved on.
  • Dog Kennel Pond: Great Crested Grebe - 2 ; Cormorant - 10 ; Greylag Goose - 20+ ; Mallard - 1+ ; Coot - 2 ; Black-headed Gull - 50+ ; Kingfisher - 1
  • Firsby Res: Moorhen - 1 ; Coot - 1 ; Mute Swan - 2 - Female now recovered from being caught in fishing line. ; Mallard - 3 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Pied Wagtail - 1 - On sluice with Grey Wagtail. ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Siskin - 10+ - On treetops calling. ; Treecreeper - 1 - With Tit flock.
  • Foxlow Ponds: 322 - 1 - Black Swan - 1 juv ; Whooper Swan - 3 - flew south then north five minutes later ; Grey Heron - 5 - in flooded field ; Jack Snipe - 6
  • Intake: Waxwing - 1 - In Rowan tree in grounds of Chatsworth Grange Nursing Home, visible from garden on Holly Grove. ; Waxwing - 1 - present all day in grounds of Chatsworth Grange Care Home.
  • Killamarsh: Waxwing - 12 - Perched in tree in garden on Rowan Tree Road
  • Leash Fen: Waxwing - 17 - Flying west at 15.30; perched briefly in roadside tree before continuing.
  • Markham Vale: Snipe - 2 ; Jack Snipe - 3
  • Middle Common, Scholes: Stonechat - 2 ; 319 - 1 ; Kestrel - 1
  • Parkgate; *Banana* plantation: Greenfinch - 3 - 1 N; 2 feeding on rose-hips ; Herring Gull - 7 - 3 SW; 4 N/NE, probably commuting to/from recycling centre in town ; Chaffinch - 1 ; Goldfinch - c40 - flock ; Great Black-backed Gull - 2 - adults, SW ; Long-tailed Tit - c10 - flock
  • Poolsbrook Marsh: Cetti's Warbler - 1 - singing ; Chiffchaff - 2 - in mixed tit flock
  • Ramsley Moor: Great Grey Shrike - 1 - Seen late afternoon
  • Roundwood Golf course: Bullfinch - 1pr - left N ; Siskin - 2
  • Roundwood Ponds: Cormorant - 12 - on pylon overlooking ponds; left NW together
  • Upper Common, Scholes: Grey Heron - 1 ; Skylark - 10+ ; Magpie - 8+
  • Walkley: Ring-necked Parakeet - 2 - flying north-west over Heavygate Road.

  • Barlow Common: Siskin - 4 ; 319 - 1 ; Coal Tit - 2 ; Goldfinch - 20+ ; Sparrowhawk - 1
  • Big Moor: Woodcock - 2 - Flying from Greaves Piece onto Big Moor at 16.35
  • Crookes Valley Park: Cormorant - 2 - adult and imm fishing this morning before adult left E ; Coot - 2 ; Moorhen - 3 ; Mallard - 20 ; Mallard hybrid - 3 ; Black-headed Gull - 80
  • Crosspool: Waxwing - 39 - Left E at 09:00
  • Forge Dam: Grey Wagtail - 1 - male
  • Frecheville: Goosander - 7 - 3M,4RH on Frecheville Pond at 09:45
  • Gillfield Wood: Nuthatch - 2 - Calling at west end of wood ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - Called at west end of wood
  • Handsworth garden: Pink-footed Goose - 100+ - Heading west around 11:50
  • Malin Bridge: Pink-footed Goose - c100 - heading W up the Loxley Valley at 12:00.
  • Middle Common, Scholes: Grey Heron - 1 ; 319 - 1 ; Kestrel - 1
  • Orgreave Lakes: Whooper Swan - 1 ; GREAT NORTHERN DIVER - 1 - Active in the middle of the larger lake ; Little Egret - 2 ; Little Grebe - 6+ ; Goosander - 7 - at dusk ; Wigeon - 11 ; Mute Swan - 2
  • Redmires: Red Grouse - 9
  • Sharrow: Pink-footed Goose - 2+ - heard over heading approximately west of WNW at 1759hrs
  • Shepherd Wheel: Dipper - 1
  • Shirecliffe: Waxwing - 7 - Calling in trees at end of Standish Way briefly before flying towards Walkley 10:50. ; Redwing - c10 ; Bullfinch - 3 ; Linnet - c50 - on old tip ; Meadow Pipit - 1 ; Pheasant - 3 ; Goose sp - c50 - heading NW distant towards Totley at 10:15.
