  • Barbot Hall Ind Estate: Mistle Thrush - 1
  • Bolehill Flash: Water Rail - 2 ; Lesser Redpoll - 12 ; Redwing - 10 ; Coal Tit - 1
  • Canklow: House Sparrow - 6 - 6 to garden feeders ; Common Buzzard - 1 - flew low to S over West Bawtry Road
  • Catcliffe Flash: 320 - 28
  • Crookes: Waxwing - c50 - St Thomas's Church.
  • Crosspool: Woodcock - 1 - Bizarre flyover along Manchester Rd in direction of Peaks/Redmires, shortly after the Waxwings had departed for the afternoon ; Waxwing - 100+ - Several groups along Manchester Road, occasionally all coming together. One group were actively eating Leyland Cypress cones - the first time I've ever seen that! ; Waxwing - 100+ - Another photo of biggest group ; Waxwing - 205 - Two pre-roost gatherings of 160+ and 45 birds at 15:00.
  • Ecclesall: Waxwing - 14 - briefly over Renshaw Road again at 12:55 hrs
  • Ecclesall Woods: Tawny Owl - 2+ - at least 2 individuals heard
  • Hillsborough Park: Mute Swan - 6 - 3 adults, 3 juveniles ; Goosander - 8 - 5 adult males, 3 red-heads ; Tufted Duck - 1 - male
  • Kimberworth Park: Kestrel - 1 - on lamp post, Town Lane, near Kimberworth Park pub
  • Leash Fen: Great Grey Shrike - 1 - Flew from west end of Ramsley Reservoir to Leash Fen at 11:00 ; Crossbill - 5 - Briefly in larches
  • Middle Common, Scholes: Fieldfare - 1 ; Linnet - 14 ; Kestrel - 3 ; Stonechat - 2 - pair
  • Nether Edge: Song Thrush - 1 - singing at junction of Union Road and Barkers Road.
  • Norton Lees: Woodcock - 1 - on patio in garden at Thorpe House Road
  • Orgreave Lakes: Grey Heron - 3 - Juvenile feeding on river. ; Cormorant - 4 ; CASPIAN GULL - 1 - second winter (same bird as Warren St earlier this week) ; GREAT NORTHERN DIVER - 1 - still present ; Common Gull - 02-Mar - at least 2 ; Stonechat - 1
  • R Rother, Bolehill: 324 - 1 - North American Mink on river. ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Kingfisher - 1 ; Jack Snipe - 1 - On the bank of the Rother
  • Rawmarsh: Pied Wagtail - 1 - male, on sunward side of Earl Grey PH, High Street
  • Redmires Res: Waxwing - 24 - flew W to roost at 15:44 hrs ; Herring Gull - 3 - in obvious adult argentatus ; Common Gull - 2 - ad and 1W - left to the NE ; Grey Wagtail - 1 - on Middle Res ; Fieldfare - 1 - in trees calling
  • Scholes: Fieldfare - 12 ; Goldfinch - 7 ; Red-legged Partridge - 16 - 11 + 5
  • Scholes Coppice: Song Thrush - 1 - attempting to break snail shell, near Studmoor Road entrance ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - foraging and calling ; Goldcrest - 1 ; Blackbird - 1+ ; Jay - 1+ ; Magpie - 1+
  • Sheffield Centre: Woodcock - 1 - found dead outside the Ibis hotel on the corner of Dixon Lane and Shude Hill
  • Thorpe Hesley: Fieldfare - 20
  • Thrybergh CP: Mute Swan - 22 - Of interest the resident male had to have a fishing lure removed from its neck by Yorkshire Swan Rescue yesterday (Red 001Y) This was the first bird fitted locally with a coloured Darvic ring 18 years ago ; Tufted Duck - 135 ; Pochard - 9 ; Goldeneye - 4
