  • Barlow: Blackcap - 1 ; Pied Wagtail - 1
  • Baslow Edge: Cuckoo - 1 - Calling below Edge ; Yellowhammer - 2 - Pair
  • Bradfield Moors: Red Kite - 2 - still up on moor.
  • Brownhills Lane: Red Kite - 1 - Circling freshly mown fields, North of Brownhills Lane.
  • Cowell Flat: Hobby - 1 - over N
  • Dalton: Willow Warbler - 1 - singing, old sewage works site ; Whitethroat - 1 - singing, old sewage works site
  • Fulwood garden: Red Kite - 1 - drifted high N 11:05 ; 319 - 2 - circling, one with damage to central tail feathers a la 'Derwent moult' ; Robin - 2+ - pair and at least one fledged juv ; Jackdaw - 2+ - pair and at least one fledged juv; juv pursued unsuccessfully by Crow
  • Hathersage: House Martin - 4 - Back Lane - pair arrived with great excitement & calling @ old nest & after 10mins were feeding high in the sky
  • High Green: Red Kite - 1 ; Swift - 8 ; House Martin - 1
  • Morehall Res: Tawny Owl - 2 - Juveniles calling in trees to the north of res ; Common Sandpiper - 1 ; Great Crested Grebe - 2 ; Tawny Owl - 3 - 3 juvs calling in plantation to the south of the res
  • Onesmoor bottom: Little Owl - 1
  • Peat Pits: Lapwing - 7 - 2 adults with well grown juv's in horse field. ; Red-legged Partridge - 2 - calling from wall. ; Kestrel - 1 - male hunting over site.
  • R Don, Aldwarke: Chiffchaff - 2 - singing ; Greenfinch - 1 - singing ; Sand Martin - 2 - around Aldwarke Lock ; Goldcrest - 1 - singing ; Blackcap - 1 - singing
  • Rawmarsh; Rockcliffe Road: Goldfinch - 5 - in garden ; Greenfinch - 1 - singing
  • Raynor Clough: Woodcock - 1 - roding ; Tawny Owl - 2 - juvs calling
  • Redmires Res: Greylag Goose - 70 - c. inc ads & young ; Canada Goose - 30 - c. inc ads & young ; Tufted Duck - 3 - 2m + 1f on Middle Res ; Moorhen - 1 - calling on Middle Res ; Mallard - 15 - c. inc ads & young ; Common Buzzard - 1 - sat in trees on south side of Middle Res ; Kestrel - 3 ; Grey Heron - 3 - flew NW over Roper Hill at 09:20 hrs ; Cuckoo - 2 - calling - Top & Bottom Reservoirs ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 12 ; Herring Gull - 4 - ads ; Common Tern - 1 - ad arrived from E, circled briefly, before departing NW at 08:24 hrs ; Stonechat - 4 - 2 pairs alarming south side of Middle Res ; Grasshopper Warbler - 2 - reeling south side of Middle Res ; Whitethroat - 3 - singing ; Common Sandpiper - 6 - inc pair with 2 young on Top Res ; Swallow - 4
  • Renishaw Lake: Mallard - 9 ; Moorhen - 2 ; Canada Goose - 9 ; Greylag Goose - 4+ - 4ad + 2 goslings ; Great Crested Grebe - 2 ; Chiffchaff - 4 ; Mute Swan - 1 ; Coot - 13+ - c13 adults but only 1 juv seen
  • Rud Hill: Lapwing - 32 - first post-breeding flock ; Golden Plover - 11 - feeding in pasture - including a well-marked "Northern race" individual ; Curlew - 2 - pair holding territory ; Swift - 20 - feeding high up
  • RVCP: Oystercatcher - 6 ; Lapwing - 21 - All ads
  • Stannington: Hobby - 1 - in flight near Bowcroft Cemetery, drifting south-east towards Rivelin
  • Thrybergh CP: Lapwing - 8 ; Little Ringed Plover - 2 ; Kingfisher - 1 ; Reed Warbler - 3+ ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 14 ; Yellowhammer - 2
  • Walkley Bank: Whitethroat - 1 - Heard singing in distance, possibly in Reaps Field.
  • Walkley garden: Swift - 20+ - circling above for 20 minutes
  • West Nab: Lapwing - 6 - 2 adults with 4 well grown juv's. ; Little Owl - 1 - sat on favourite perch.

Saturday 10th June 2023

  • Barlow: Skylark - 1 ; 319 - 2 ; Blackcap - 1 ; Chiffchaff - 1 ; Whitethroat - 2 ; Swallow - up to 10 ; Linnet - 7 ; House Martin - 2 ; Goldfinch - 3 ; Pied Wagtail - 2
  • Baslow: Swift - 6 - Party of 6 around village early evening
  • Bramley: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Female over gardens on Flanderwell Avenue. ; Swift - 10+ - Visiting nest sites in house eaves.
  • Burbage Valley: Cuckoo - 1 - calling
  • Canklow Woods: Woodcock - 1 - 1 roding at 2155
  • Endcliffe Student Village~pond: Moorhen - 8 - 1 adult+3 fully-fledged brood 1 helping to feed 4 half-grown brood 2. Other adult may well be on clutch 3.
  • Featherbed Moss: Dunlin - 8 - 4 pairs holding territory in suitable breeding habitat - display noted ; Golden Plover - 8 - 4 pairs holding territory ; Curlew - 2 - pair holding territory ; Swallow - 1 - male flew N
  • Firsby Res: Coot - 3 - 2 adults, 1 chick. ; Mallard - 5 - 4 males, 1 Female with half grown duckling. ; Mute Swan - 2 - Resident pair. ; Mute Swan - 2 - Resident pair.
