  • Redmires Top Res: Common Sandpiper - 1 - Calling continuously as though young were young were present but none seen ; Mallard - 8+ - incl female with 8 small chicks attracting attention of LBBGs and another with 3 well-grown chicks ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 15 - loafing and eyeing Mallard chicks ; Herring Gull - 2 - adults ; Black-headed Gull - 2 - adults ; Swallow - 2 - pair apparently attending nest under blue bridge
  • Rud Hill: Red Grouse - 5 - M &F and 3 young ; Red Grouse - 5
  • Ughill Farm: Redstart - 4 - Pair feeding two young in tree tops.
  • Wadsley: Swift - 15-20 - Most seen here this year
  • Worrall: Barn Owl - 1 - Over fields next to Coal Pit Lane

Tuesday 13th June 2023

  • Abbey Brook: Ring Ouzel - 1 - Opposite Berristers Tor ; Cuckoo - 1 - Calling
  • Coldside Oaks: Cuckoo - 1 - Calling
  • Green Moor: Pheasant - 3+ - Female with at least two small young - bred ; Red-legged Partridge - 2 ; Kestrel - 3+ - Pair now feeding young ; Little Owl - 1
  • Moorland Fringe: Nightjar - 3 - churring males at 2 sites
  • Peat Pits: Hobby - 1 - Over south. ; Curlew - 4 ; Lapwing - 3 - Adult with two young.
  • Pebley Pond: Lesser Whitethroat - 1 - alarm calling by dam wall ; 324 - 1 - Mink, swan across pond onto the Island
  • R Don, Effingham St: Little Egret - 1 - feeding on weir with a Heron ; 321 - 1
  • Redmires Middle Res: Grasshopper Warbler - 1 - reeling
  • Redmires Plantation: Woodcock - 1 - roding
  • Redmires Res: Little Grebe - 1 - adult trilling in and around willows on western side of Top Res - presumably nest nearby ; Tufted Duck - 3 ; Curlew - 5 - flew SW ; Grasshopper Warbler - 2 - reeling south side of Middle Res ; Linnet - 2 - pair in gorse bushes by Bottom Res ; Whitethroat - 3 - singing ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 18 ; Herring Gull - 2 - with LBBs ; Spotted Flycatcher - 1 - singing by Top Res car park ; Common Sandpiper - 3 - ad with 2 young on Top Res ; Cuckoo - 2 - calling ; Mallard - 18 - including 2 females with 6 and 8 young ; Crossbill - 1 - flew W at 07:30 hrs
  • Redmires Top Res: Swallow - 2 - Pair feeding and bathing around conduit bridge ; 324 - 2 - Broad-bodied Chaser - 2 females around stone hut at 'plughole'
  • Sothall: Moorhen - 1 - nocmig recorded over garden 0033hr
  • Stanedge Pole: Red Grouse - 10+ - including a pair with 5+ small chicks that were flushed by a Mountain Hare; the grouse chased and attacked the hare, pecking it from behind while in flight.
  • Walkley: Whitethroat - 1 - Bentley Road. Heard thud on conservatory roof. Later found dead whitethroat there.
  • Wharncliffe Chase (south): Reed Bunting - 4 - singing ; Stonechat - 10+ - 3 pairs between rock escarpments, at least 4 juvs ; Raven - 2 ; Tree Pipit - 7 - Singing ; Meadow Pipit - 20+ ; Linnet - 4
  • Wharncliffe Wood: Tawny Owl - 2 - Juvs calling ; Tree Pipit - 2 - Singing
  • White Lee Moor: Barn Owl - 1

Monday 12th June 2023

  • Baslow: Chiffchaff - 2
  • Baslow Edge: Cuckoo - 1 - Calling below Edge
  • Centenary Riverside: Whitethroat - 5 - Singing ; Blackcap - 4 - Singing ; Willow Warbler - 1 - Singing ; Chiffchaff - 1 - Singing ; Blackbird - 1 - Singing
  • Fulwood garden: Red Kite - 1 - low SW at 14:30 ; Nuthatch - 1 - dispersing juv - not bred in vicinity
  • Parkgate Canal Basin: Lesser Whitethroat - 1 - Singing @05.45 and @13.00 ; Whitethroat - 1 - Singing ; Blackcap - 2 - Singing ; Song Thrush - 1 - Singing ; Mute Swan - 6
  • Peat Pits: QUAIL - 1 - calling at dusk.
  • R Derwent, Calver Mill: 321 - 1
  • Redmires Road: Whitethroat - 3 - singing by road between Camp plantation and Soughley Lane junction
  • River Don Effingham street: Grey Wagtail - 4 - Adult and 3 independent young. ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 132 ; Herring Gull - 41 - On the weir.
  • River Don Norfolk Bridge: Little Egret - 2 - second photo
  • River Don, Norfolk Bridge: Little Egret - 2 - One very confiding bird seen to catch a minnow.
  • RVCP: Pochard - 2 ; Oystercatcher - 8 - all ads
  • Thrybergh CP: Common Tern - 2 ; Common Tern - 2 ; Goldfinch - c10 - Juveniles feeding on Sorrel seeds in dam wall paddock.
  • Treeton Dyke: Common Tern - 2 - sat on buoys ; Garden Warbler - 1 - singing
  • Treeton Dyke inner pool: Reed Warbler - 4 - 3 singing birds and one bird carrying food.
  • Treeton Tip: Little Grebe - 1 - juv on forgemasters tip pool, no sign of adults.

Sunday 11th June 2023

  • Agden: Spotted Flycatcher - 1
  • Agden Rocher: Pied Flycatcher - 4 - 2p still present, one pair visiting nestbox but without food and no chicks seen outside so assumed failed, other pair still feeding chicks. ; Garden Warbler - 1 - singing ; Redstart - 2 - singing males
  • Agden Side: Little Owl - 1 ; Woodcock - 1 - roding at dusk.
  • Barlow: House Martin - 5+ - up to 9 ; Swallow - 5+ ; 319 - 2 ; Whitethroat - 1 ; Linnet - 1 ; Goldfinch - 3 ; Greenfinch - 2 ; Yellowhammer - 1
