  • Burbage Valley: Ring Ouzel - 1 - male singing at sunset ; Stonechat - 2+ - juvenile seen, adult heard alarm calling ; Meadow Pipit - 8
  • Dale Dike Res: Redstart - 1 - female and 1+ juvs Blindside Lane ; Oystercatcher - 3 ; Greylag Goose - 140 - inc sev large goslings ; Red Kite - 1 ; Blackcap - 1 - singing male, with very good mimicry of singing Whitethroat and Redstart, blindside lane
  • Foxhill, Shaw Hill: Swift - 6 ; Swallow - 3
  • Greasbrough Dam,Wentworth: Great Crested Grebe - 5 - 3 adults ; Grey Heron - 1 - juv on S side ; Mallard - 20+ - several family parties ; Moorhen - 5+ - adults and juvs ; Coot - 7+ - at least 2 family parties ; Black-headed Gull - 1+
  • Holling Dale: WHITE-TAILED EAGLE - 1 - soared up high NW of Hollingdale, mobbed by Raven and Buzzard. Headed off towards upper Abbey Brook area.
  • Midhopestones: Red Kite - 5 - Circling high moving west together
  • Orgreave Lakes: BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 1 ; Greenfinch - 2 - Add and juv drinking from drain in causeway. ; Coot - 80 - 2 juvs
  • Sheephill Road: Oystercatcher - 2 ; 324 - 1 - Hummingbird Hawk moth in rough grassland.
  • Underbank Res: Grey Wagtail - 1+ - Female calling from trees overhanging waters edge in dismissive tone suggesting young nearby.
  • Walkley: Swift - 1 - Single entering traditional nest site on Camm Street.
  • Wentworth Lakes: Grey Heron - 4 - juvs in recently cut field, Peacock Lodge Farm

Tuesday 21st June 2022

  • Beauchief Abbey: Mandarin - 2 ; Nuthatch - 1 ; Jay - 1
  • Burbage Valley: Meadow Pipit - 4+ - incl. 1 singing and displaying and 1 carrying food ; Cuckoo - 1 - calling at S end of valley ; Willow Warbler - 5+ - family group ; Raven - 1 - circling then N ; Whinchat - 3 - 2m singing + 1f ; Wheatear - 1 - m
  • Derwent Edge: Whinchat - 2 - A pair visiting a nest site with food in a Bracken field ; Stonechat - 10 - At least two family parties feeding fledged young ; Ring Ouzel - 1 - Male singing and showing in flight ; Curlew - 2 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Hobby - 1
  • Dore: Curlew - 1 - Over calling at 19:50
  • Graves Park: Ring-necked Parakeet - 3 ; Mistle Thrush - 1
  • Ladybower Res: Redstart - 4 - Pair feeding 2 fledged young ; Oystercatcher - 2 ; Common Sandpiper - 10 - c10 along the shoreline including at least 2 young
  • Moscar Cross: Grey Partridge - 1+ - adult female with c7 chicks
  • Silverwood Lagoon: BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 3+ - adult feeding one young towards NE corner and pair feeding 2 young at southern end seen this morning. Soon went back into cover of reedbeds when a LBBG dropped-in ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 - adult ; Tufted Duck - 10+ - including female with a fresh brood of 7

  • Bradfield Dale: Barn Owl - 1 - hunting over pastures
  • Crowhole: Siskin - 1 ; House Martin - 5 ; Swallow - 4 ; Swift - 1 ; Song Thrush - 1 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Goldfinch - 2
  • Doe House Plantation: Woodcock - 2+ - squeaking and grunting plus one flying to land on woodland floor ; Tawny Owl - at least 1 - hooting and kevick call heard
  • Green Moor: Little Owl - 1
  • Norton Lees: Swift - 3
  • Rawmarsh; Rockcliffe Road: Common Buzzard - 4 - soaring over together with much calling, 1115hrs
  • Rocher End Brook: Yellowhammer - 1 - singing male ; Kestrel - 3 - at least 1 young flying with parent(s) ; Robin - 2 - 1 fledgling seen
  • Ughill: Curlew - 25 - post-breeding flock in recently-cut silage field off Sugworth Road
  • Wragg House Plantation: Woodcock - 1 - roding

  • Agden Res: Common Sandpiper - 2 - near mouth of reservoir overflow channel
  • Bramley: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Male killed and ate juv House Sparrow in garden
  • Bull Clough: Golden Plover - 4 - Just 2 pairs holding territory - habitat pretty dry compared with previous years ; Merlin - 1 - flew N - different bird from Margery Hill individual
  • Deep Dale: Redstart - 1 - Male
