  • Dore: Great Tit - 1 - 1 adult, 2+ juvs in observer's garden
  • Greystones garden: Starling - 12 - 8 Juveniles ; Blue Tit - 2 - 1 Juvenile ; Bullfinch - 1 - Juvenile ; Goldfinch - 5 - 3 Juveniles
  • Houndkirk Moor: Curlew - 1
  • Nether Green: Blackcap - 1 - singing in clough behind Tesco garage
  • Norwood Allotments: Red Kite - 1 - low east at 08:55.
  • Onesmoor bottom: Little Owl - 2 - sat at roadside.
  • R Don, Neepsend and Kelham Island: Chaffinch - 4+ - 4 territories confirmed along Don over last couple of months; Hillfoot Road, Neepsend Lane, Kelham Island (2)
  • R Don, Nursery Street: Blue Tit - 1+ - family party in riverside vegetation ; Great Tit - 1+ - family party in riverside vegetation ; Wren - 1+ - family party in riverside vegetation by Iron Bridge ; Mallard - 1+ - including fresh brood of 2 ; Sand Martin - 6
  • R Don, Rutland Rd: Sand Martin - 1+ - not counted (yet) but now a large number of occupied nests
  • Ramsley Moor: Mistle Thrush - 1 - adult carrying food ; Willow Warbler - 1 - adult carrying food ; Linnet - 2 - 2 recently fledged juvs ; Song Thrush - 1
  • Redmires conduit: Curlew - 3 - Anxious female calling as 2 well-grown juveniles were ahead on the path
  • Rivelin Filters: Mandarin - 14 - 1 female and 6 chicks on river behind cottages and 4 adults and 3 chicks on pond rear of filters
  • Treeton SF: House Martin - 40+
  • Walkley garden: Swift - 3 - 3 swifts, one entered traditional nest chased by magpie.
  • White Lee Moor: Red-legged Partridge - 1 - calling at dusk.
  • Wyming Brook: Crossbill - 2

Tuesday 4th June 2019

  • Blackburn Meadows NR: Raven - 1 - Flew over SE at 09.05.
  • Dore: Goldfinch - 2 - 2 adults with 3 juvs
  • Eckington: Red Kite - 1
  • Greystones garden: Bullfinch - 2 - 2 Juveniles on feeders
  • R Don, Rotherham Centre; adjacent Forge Island: Grey Heron - 1 - adult, wading in shallows @ 0800hrs ; Canada Goose - 2
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Grasshopper Warbler - 1 - reeling briefly beyond southern end of lagoon at 08.55. Been quiet for past fortnight

  • Burbage Valley: Woodcock - 1 ; Ring Ouzel - 1 - Male ; Wheatear - 1
  • Burncross, Chapeltown: Swift - c20 - PM
  • Canklow Woods: Woodcock - 1 - 1 roding at 2200
  • Graves Park: Treecreeper - 1
  • Middleton Moor: Shelduck - 1 ; Yellow-legged Gull - 1 ; Ringed Plover - 1 - In low from east at 16.30
  • Millhouses: Swift - 2 - Screaming "party" of two. Regular count of only two for the past three weeks over this former stronghold.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Swift - 500+ ; Ringed Plover - 2 ; Dunlin - 1 ; Sanderling - 1 ; Common Sandpiper - 1
  • R Don, Rotherham Centre; adjacent interchange: Reed Warbler - 1 - singing quietly from dense buddleia scrub @ 0755hrs
  • Rawmarsh: Greylag Goose - 6 - W @ 0625hrs
  • Rivelin Filters: Canada Goose - 17 - 6 adults + 3 broods of young (4,4,3)
  • Stocksbridge: Willow Tit - 1 - calling repeatedly in woodland edge next to Steel Valley Walk
  • Wharncliffe Heath NR: Pied Flycatcher - 16+ - 4 pairs feeding juveniles, 4 males singing, 12 confirmed territories
