  • Firsby Res: Moorhen - 1 ; Coot - 5 - Squabbling. Numbers increasing. ; Mallard - 6 - 3 pairs. ; Grey Heron - 2 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; 319 - 2 - Pair calling. ; Snipe - 1 - Flushed from long grass in set aside field. ; Woodcock - 1 - Flew from under willows near stream. ; Red-legged Partridge - 2+ - Calling. ; Pheasant - 2 - Males. ; Song Thrush - 1 ; Jay - 2 ; Green Woodpecker - 1 - Yaffling ; Stonechat - 2 - Pair in set aside field ; Meadow Pipit - 3 ; Skylark - 2 - Singing. ; Bullfinch - 3+ ; Jackdaw - 30 - Over in single flock.

  • Norfolk Park: Sparrowhawk - 1 - plucking prey in observer's garden
  • Overstones Farm: Curlew - 7+ - Feeding, wheeling & calling over previous nest sites below Stanage ; Lapwing - 4+ - In usual fields with curlew
  • Shepherd Wheel: Grey Heron - 1 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Mistle Thrush - 1 ; Greenfinch - 2 - 2 Singing Males by allotments ; Dipper - 1 ; Nuthatch - 1 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - male
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Chiffchaff - 1 - singing in Round Wood (cenotaph wood)
  • Ulley: Skylark - 2 - Pair, one in air singing, Guithwaite Common Lane, 15.30
  • Wadsley Common: Song Thrush - 1 - Singing ; Chiffchaff - 1 - Singing
  • Walkley garden: Chaffinch - 1 - fem, severely calloused left leg with c25 HouseSparrows below nyger feeder
  • Wharncliffe Side: Waxwing - 12 - Still present at School Lane, perched in ash tree
  • Wharncliffe Wood: Peregrine - 1 - Over wood ; Raven - 1 ; Common Buzzard - 2 - Displaying
  • Whittington Moor: Red Kite - 1 - drifting South
  • Wire Mill Dam: Grey Wagtail - 2 ; Mandarin - 13 - 4 pairs + 5 lone males ; Nuthatch - 2

Tuesday 10th March 2020

  • Blackburn Meadows NR: Chiffchaff - 1 - Singing male.
  • Canklow Woods: Peregrine - 2 - pair in the air together 1430 to 1515
  • Norfolk Heritage Park: 319 - 1 - perched in tree by the multi-use games area.
  • Peat Pits: Lapwing - 8 - Having a hard time in the wind and rain ; Skylark - 4 ; Golden Plover - 200-300
  • R Don, Rotherham Centre; adjacent interchange: Goosander - 1pr - feeding actively @ 0755hrs
  • Rotherham Centre: Raven - 1 - circling over @ 1245hrs; harassed & chased away to NE by local crows
  • Wharncliffe Heath NR: Woodcock - 1
  • Wharncliffe Side: Waxwing - 12 - In silver birch off school lane at 13:04
  • Wharncliffe Wood: Woodcock - 3 - Roding

Monday 9th March 2020

  • Barlow: Fieldfare - 5+ - in a mixed flock with 100+ Redwings ; Redwing - 100+ ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 2 ; Mistle Thrush - 1 ; Long-tailed Tit - 1 ; Goldfinch - 1
  • Brightside: Ring-necked Parakeet - c23 - roosting, with what looked like the Alexandrine with them.
  • Crookes: 322 - 1 - male Lord Derby's Parakeet still in Hawthorns at Bute St / Crookes Rd junction
  • Graves Park: Little Grebe - 2 - On bottom pond.
  • Pit-house West: Willow Tit - 1 - singing male ; Water Rail - 1 - calling ; Tawny Owl - 1 - hooting ; Chiffchaff - 1 - singing
  • R Don, Rotherham Centre; adjacent interchange: Goosander - 1pr
  • Redmires conduit: Golden Plover - 2 - 2 in flight then dropped into heather
  • Redmires Middle Res: Oystercatcher - 5
  • Rivelin Valley: Dipper - 4 - 2 seen together, 1 had a silver ring on right leg ; Goosander - 2 - M&F ; Grey Heron - 1 ; 324 - 2 - Frogs mating, frog spawn present.
  • Templeborough: Red Kite - 1 - low over fullerton road

Sunday 8th March 2020

  • Aldwarke: Song Thrush - 1 ; Mute Swan - 2 - SW @ 0910hrs ; Linnet - 1 - singing ; Stock Dove - 2 ; Pied Wagtail - 2
  • Aldwarke SF: Magpie - c30 ; Common Buzzard - 1 - probably same seen over Dalton earlier ; Reed Bunting - 1 - female ; Coot - 2-3prs ; Mallard - 1pr ; Little Grebe - 1 ; Canada Goose - 1pr ; Grey Heron - 1 - W/SW ; Gadwall - 16 ; Pied Wagtail - 1 - male
  • Aston: Rook - 80 - 37 active nests at entrance to Aston Hall
  • Barlborough: Waxwing - 2 - Identified from submitted photograph, not re-located today.
  • Birleyhay Dam: 321 - 3
  • Blackburn Meadows: Snipe - 2
  • Bramley: Red Kite - 1
