Brownhills Lane: Oystercatcher - 1 - In roadside fields

Calfhey Wood: Redstart - 2 - two singing ; Crossbill - c20

Ecclesall road south: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - Single male in our Apple tree

Fagney Clough: Ring Ouzel - 1 - female foraging

Hillsborough: Swallow - 2 - low E over Hillsborough corner

Hillsborough Park: Moorhen - 4 - inc adult with 2 half grown chicks.

Lowfield: Greenfinch - 1 - Male singing in top of tree at edge of Asda car park alongside the busy Queen's Rd. First noticed a male singing here a few weeks ago, so I assume it has a nest nearby.

Loxley Valley: Mistle Thrush - 5+ - adults with recently-fledged young. ; Barn Owl - 1 ; Woodcock - 1 - roding.

Malin Bridge: Moorhen - 1 - nocmig 00:23 ; Goldcrest - 1 - singing in gardens again early am ; Chaffinch - 1 - singing in gardens early am, unusual here.

Middleton Moor: Shelduck - 4 - 2 pairs ; Oystercatcher - 2 ; Wheatear - 3 ; Reed Warbler - 1 - singing

Midhope Res: Common Sandpiper - 4 - Display plus collecting nest material ; Oystercatcher - Pair ; Curlew - 6 ; Snipe - 1 displaying ; Little Grebe - 5 ; 319 - 2 ; Pied Wagtail - 2 - Gathering nest material ; Raven - 2 ; Skylark - 1 singing

Norfolk Park: Jackdaw - c6 - Three, perhaps four nests in Park Grange Rd. tram route light fittings. Sticks sticking out from under light canopy plus 50 or so sticks fallen beneath one of the nests. ; Blue Tit - 1 - In Ash tree in Park Grange Rd., entering a hole in with mossy nest material.

Orgreave Lakes: Dunlin - 1 ; Wheatear - 2 - a pair ; House Martin - 1 ; Swift - 5

Ouzleden Clough: Cuckoo - 1 - calling

Rawmarsh; Rockcliffe Road: Blackbird - 1pr+ - feeding 1+ recently fledged juvs ; Chaffinch - 1 - pristine male drinking from bird bath; still an uncommon garden visitor here

Redmires Res: Greylag Goose - 12 - in fields ; Mallard - 6 - inc 2 females with 9 and 5 young respectively ; Herring Gull - 28 - 2 on Middle Res + 26 which arrived from the E in one flock ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 3 - arrived from E with HGs ; Common Sandpiper - 4 ; Tree Pipit - 1 - singing in Fairthorn Clough ; Redstart - 2 - singing males ; Grey Wagtail - 2 ; Moorhen - 1 - heard on Top Res ; Stonechat - 1 - female alarming on Middle Res

Sheffield University: Peregrine - 4 - 2 chicks hatched today.

Silverwood Lagoon: Reed Warbler - 3 - singing ; Sedge Warbler - 1 - singing ; Whitethroat - 10+ - singing birds widespread on pit top now ; Swallow - 1 ; Yellow Wagtail - 1 - over ; Reed Bunting - 2 - singing ; Kestrel - 1

Ughill: Whimbrel - 1 - still with rapidly declining Curlew flock. ; Curlew - 25 ; Redstart - 1 - male singing Oaks Piece

Wadsley: Swallow - 2 - 2 chasing low over Marlcliffe Road. Unusual here unless high flyovers.

Wharncliffe Chase: Cuckoo - 1 - seen and heard. Flew from Pales Wood area towards clay pigeon shoot ; Ring Ouzel - 4 - together briefly near Wharncliffe Lodge ; Tree Pipit - 1

Bingham Park: Wren - 1 - singing ; Moorhen - 2 - pair at nest on lower pond, though apparently empty
