  • Ringinglow: 324 - 1 - Weasel running across Ringinglow Rd
  • Roper Hill: Kestrel - 1
  • Whiston: Red Kite - 1 - circling overhead

Wednesday 12th August 2020

  • Abney Clough: 319 - 2
  • Ecclesfield: Common Buzzard - 2 - Circling very low and calling, drifted west over Cross Hill.
  • Grange Park Golf Course: 319 - 4 - Circling together plus calling, assumed family group
  • Kimberworth: Bullfinch - 2 - Male and female on garden sunflower hearts feeder.
  • Malin Bridge: Peregrine - 1 - ad male drifted slowly over E towards Shirecliffe, before drifting back W.
  • Mayfield Valley: Little Owl - 2 - Visible from footpath above Old May House at 19:30
  • Nether Green: Swift - 6 - Highest count since the North-Easterlies kicked in on Saturday evening.
  • Redmires Res: Redshank - 1 - flew NE
  • RVCP, Meadowgate Lake: Green Sandpiper - 1 ; Common Sandpiper - 1
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Gadwall - 9 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 9 - 4-3-1-1 SW ; Cormorant - 1 - north ; Jackdaw - 2 - north ; Yellow Wagtail - 1 - south ; Siskin - 1 - SW ; Snipe - 1 ; Common Buzzard - 1 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Swift - 2 ; Swallow - 6 ; House Martin - 30+ - feeding over lagoon and Woodlaithes end of pit top ; Long-tailed Tit - 39 - single flock across track below NW corner of lagoon in follow-my-leader fashion ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1
  • Stanley Hill: Finch sp - 80+ - Post-breeding mixed flock - :Linnets, Goldfinches and Greenfinches.
  • Walkley: Swift - c20 - appeared in the evening high over, flying ant hatch under way if Gull behaviour anything to go by. ; Tawny Owl - 2 - 2 calling in garden with possible 3rd in ash and birch trees.

  • Abbeydale: House Martin - 2+ - Visiting two active nests under the eaves of the St Luke's charity shop on Abbeydale Road.
  • Crookes: Swallow - 1 - In park below cemetery
  • Dronfield: Ring-necked Parakeet - 1 - In trees behind Greendale
  • Ewden Height: Peregrine - 1 - Over Broomhead Moor ; Raven - 1 ; Swallow - 2 ; Kestrel - 2 - At least one juvenile ; Mistle Thrush - 3 - Ad + 2 juvs ; Meadow Pipit - 7 - Incl juvs ; Stock Dove - 1 ; Siskin - 1+ ; 319 - 1 ; Linnet - 2 ; Goldfinch - 4 ; Willow Warbler - 5+ - Juvs feeding + odd song burst 18.00 onwards ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 - Ad NW towards Langsett 19.00 ; Curlew - 2
  • Fulwood: Swift - 7 - Headed E towards the city in ones and twos in the evening
  • Hudson*s Rough: Sparrowhawk - 3 - Adult(s) and at least 2 juvs, constant calls from tree tops for well over a week. ; Blackbird - 2+ ; Chiffchaff - 1+ - calls ; Coal Tit - 1 - singing ; Blue Tit - 1+ ; Great Tit - 1+ ; Nuthatch - 1 - calls ; Treecreeper - 1+ - song and calls ; Jay - 1+ ; Magpie - 1+ ; Carrion Crow - 1+ ; Bullfinch - 2 - calls
  • Kimberworth: Tawny Owl - 1 - calling from bottom of garden. First time heard calling for a couple of months.
  • Kimberworth Park: Swift - 3 - low over Cinder Hill Road @ 08:30
  • Mayfield Valley: Little Owl - 2 - Visible from Foxhall Lane
  • Middleton Moor: 320 - 11 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1000+ ; Black-headed Gull - 200 ; Yellow-legged Gull - 3 - Adults/near adults ; 320 - 5 ; Shelduck - 2 - Juveniles ; Lapwing - 66
  • Nether Green: Swift - 3
  • Redmires Bottom Res: Siskin - 30-40 - very mobile, feeding in res side conifers.

  • Eyam Moor: Linnet - 20-25 - Many juvs. 1 m ; Whinchat - 1 - juv ; Stonechat - 2 - 2 m ; Meadow Pipit - c15 - incl juvs ; Pied Flycatcher - 1 - m ; Kestrel - 1 ; Raven - 1 ; Carrion Crow - 2 ; Red Grouse - 2
