  • Parkgate; *Banana* plantation: Siskin - 1 - heard over ; Sparrowhawk - 1+ - f over & 1+ juvs calling incessantly from woodland ; Linnet - 7 - W ; Jay - 3 - attracted by SH calls; left towards golf course ; Tree Pipit - 1 - over @ 0710hrs ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - flew in from golf course ; Swift - c40 - inc 23 SW ; Blackcap - 1 ; Song Thrush - 2 ; Coal Tit - 1 ; Chiffchaff - 1 ; Long-tailed Tit - c10 ; Coal Tit - 1 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 4 - SW
  • Ramsley Moor: Willow Warbler - 7 ; Whitethroat - 4 ; Blackcap - 1 ; Spotted Flycatcher - 3 ; Stonechat - 7 ; Tree Pipit - 1 ; Siskin - 20+ - Mainly juvs ; Whinchat - 2 ; Swallow - 30+ - Steady trickle SW

  • Roundwood Golf course: Sand Martin - c30 - feeding over ; Grey Heron - 1 - adult, low to NE ; Common Gull - 1 - adult, SW then S ; Coal Tit - 1 - singing ; Chiffchaff - 1 - singing
  • Roundwood Ponds: Raven - 1 - settled on pylon briefly @ 0725hrs before leaving N/NW
  • Sharrow Vale Road: Swift - 2 - incl 1 visiting apparent nest site
  • Thrybergh CP: Avocet - 1 - Bird flew in from the south 08:22 was still present 12:25
  • Treeton Dyke: Kingfisher - 1 - Hovered and caught a fish at S end then went into willows where calling on and off; suspect feeding an imm. ; Green Woodpecker - 1 - Feeding on ground, flew across lake into woods ; Yellow Wagtail - 5 - Single party in tops of willows then flew off towards Orgreave ; 319 - 2 - Circling with much calling ; Swift - 2
  • Treeton Tip: Reed Warbler - 1 - Singing from reedbed on dragonfly pool
  • Woodhead: 337 - 1 - Reported just inside SBSG area at 1037hrs c1ml east of Woodhead just north of A628 on Ironbower Rocks (SK1199) but then flew high north

  • Forge Dam: Grey Wagtail - 1 ; 321 - 1
  • Kimberworth Park: Swift - c30 - over Remount Road and Shearman Avenue.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Mediterranean Gull - 1 - Juvenile briefly at 07:15 ; Yellow Wagtail - 21 - A t least 21 juveniles on south bank of big lake. ; Common Sandpiper - 1 ; Grey Partridge - 5
  • Ranmoor: Swift - 16+
  • Rotherham Centre: Sand Martin - 3 - Hunting over the river by Chantry Bridge. ; Collared Dove - 2 - Drinking from garden bird bath
  • Wharncliffe Side: Wren - 1+ - Nest in observers garden, at least one juvenile inside
  • Wharncliffe Wood: Crossbill - 1 ; Woodcock - 1

  • Calver Mill: Goosander - 18 - 18 immature birds together
  • Crosspool: Swift - 9 - Circling and feeding very high.
  • Greystones: Swift - 3 - Over observer's garden
  • Monsal Trail: Swift - 17+ ; Swallow - 2

  • Ravenfield: Sparrowhawk - 2+ - Succesful breeding

Monday 3rd August 2020

  • Birley Edge: Starling - 100+ - Post=breeding flock on fields/telegraph wires
  • Blacka Moor: Long-tailed Tit - 10 ; Wheatear - 1 ; Curlew - 3 ; 324 - 3 - Red Deer - 2 adults and fawn
  • Harley: House Martin - 3+ - 3 possible nests - none until recently- all within 15 metres of each other. 1 with young, 1 under construction another possible site getting regular visits
  • Nether Green: Swift - 30+
  • Redmires conduit: Whinchat - 1 - juvenile at small reservoir
  • Redmires Res: Yellow-legged Gull - 5+ - at least 5 in the roost this evening

  • Bradwell Moor: Wheatear - 1 - fem
  • Chatsworth: Bullfinch - 4 - by Hunting Tower - family party
  • Chesterfield Canal: Swallow - 1 ; Swift - 3 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 ; Blackcap - 3 - 2 males ; House Martin - 9 - 5+ drinking from canal
