  • Arbourthorne: Moorhen - 2 - a pair on pond. ; Mallard - 7 - 5 drakes
  • Barbrook Valley: Skylark - 1+ - Singing ; Curlew - 2 ; Stonechat - 2 - M&F ; Reed Bunting - 3 - Singing ; Meadow Pipit - 3+ ; 324 - 1 - Red Deer, female ; Lapwing - 3
  • Brinsworth: 319 - 3 - Circling over Thirsty flame pub then flew S/E 10.20
  • Burbage Valley: Lapwing - 2 - a pair agitated by proximity of grazing cattle ; Cuckoo - 1 - Singing in plantation re-growth ; Snipe - 2 - Chipping ; Nuthatch - 1 - Calling in trees at Burbage Bridge/Toads Mouth
  • Chapeltown: Starling - 27 - At least 19 juvs coming to feeders with adults
  • Hangingwater garden: Blackcap - 1 - m singing in garden. 1st "summer" bird seen here ; Blue Tit - 2+ - adults taking food to nest box ; Wren - 2 - pair nesting in dense head of palm tree ; Jackdaw - 1 - collecting food from ground feeder ; Magpie - 1+ - collecting food regularly from ground feeder
  • Hurlfield: Great Tit - 4+ - 2 pairs in nest boxes feeding young. ; Blue Tit - 2+ - pair feeding young in nest box ; House Sparrow - 6+ - 3 pairs in rooftop nests.
  • Intake: Hobby - 1 - Low through .
  • Ladies* Spring Wood: Dipper - 1 - juv ; Grey Wagtail - 2 - Parent and juvenile
  • Manor Fields Park: Swallow - 1 - thru park early am. ; Willow Warbler - 2 - singing ; Whitethroat - 4 ; Blackcap - 3 - singing males ; Great Tit - 8+ - 1pair at active nest. 1 pair with at least 4 recently fledged young near pond. ; Chiffchaff - 3+ ; Linnet - 4+ - at least 2 pairs ; Mallard - 2 - 1 drake 1 young ; Moorhen - 4+ - 2 poss 3 pair.
  • Monsal Dale: Spotted Flycatcher - 2 - Feeding by river
  • Orgreave Lakes: LITTLE TERN - 1 - Came in from north and flew south down lake before gaining height and continuing south. ; Turnstone - 1 - Still around small lake ; Common Tern - 4 - Mid-afternoon, including potential pair with much interaction amd some begging. One with distinctive dangling primary. ; Canada Goose - 20+ - Including two creches of 2 pairs each, with totals of 9 and 13 small juvs respectively.

  • Redmires Res: Cuckoo - 2 - separate males calling ; Common Sandpiper - 6 ; Swallow - 4
  • Rother Valley CP: Mute Swan - 2+ - Pair with 6 small cygnets on intermediate lake ; Coot - 2+ - Pair with 3 small chicks on fishing lake
  • Smithy Wood: Green Woodpecker - 1 - Unusual here, first record for me
  • Thorpe Hesley: House Martin - 1
  • Thrybergh CP: Common Tern - 1
  • Thrybergh Tip: Cetti's Warbler - 1 - singing in corner near metal bridge at 09.05 ; Stock Dove - 1 ; Reed Warbler - 4+ - at least 4 singing ; Reed Bunting - 2 - singing ; Chiffchaff - 3 - singing ; Blackcap - 3 - singing ; Song Thrush - 1 - singing ; Water Rail - 1 - heard
  • Treeton Dyke: Mute Swan - 1+ - Adult with 3 small cygnets, Falconer Lane end ; Tufted Duck - 6 - 3 pairs
  • Wharncliffe Heath NR: Pied Flycatcher - 10+
  • Wyming Brook: Wood Warbler - 2 - pair present ; Siskin - 4 - ad feeding 3 juvs

Friday 14th May 2021

  • Beauchief: House Martin - 3
  • Burbage Valley: Stonechat - 1 - m with food
  • Carr Vale Nature Reserve: 332 - 1 - still present at southern end of reserve (well outside SBSG recording area) until 19.50hrs when flushed by photographer. Flew to willows immediately east of southern most water but unclear if landed or continued; did not returned to water over next half hour
  • Cattis-side Moor: Curlew - 1 ; Cuckoo - 1 - Calling somewhere below the Moor itself
  • Centenary Riverside: Willow Warbler - 1 - singing ; Mallard - 4+ - 2m & 1f with 4 full-grown juvs on river; f + 7 juvs on wetland ; Whitethroat - 3 - singing ; Blackcap - 4 - 3 singing; 1 female ; Chiffchaff - 2 - singing ; Reed Bunting - 1 - singing ; Greenfinch - 2 - 1m; 1f ; Black-headed Gull - 1 - adult ; Reed Warbler - 1 - singing quietly from Phragmites ; Kingfisher - 1
  • Fatty Boyns Ponds: 319 - 2
  • Firsby Res: Moorhen - 2 ; Grey Heron - 1 - Catching small fish. ; Swallow - 1 - Over Arbour Lane. ; Blackcap - 10+ - Inc 2 active nests ; Whitethroat - 2 ; Reed Warbler - 1 ; Sedge Warbler - 1 - Singing
