  • Burbage Valley: Ring Ouzel - 2 - Male seen, another bird heard calling at the same time ; Meadow Pipit - 9+ ; Wren - 2 ; Stonechat - 1+ - Male carrying food ; Pied Wagtail - 1 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Swift - 1 ; Whinchat - 1
  • Deepcar garden: Greenfinch - 5 - making very good use of sunflower feeders ; Goldfinch - 07-Sep - adults and young all feeding on sunflower hearts and black sunflower at present ; House Sparrow - 10+ - Also taking to sunflowers + mixed seed feeders ; House Martin - 4+ - hawking around houses ; Swift - 4 - as martins but flying much higher ; Dunnock - 2 ; Siskin - 1 - well grown young bird feeding on fat balls ; Magpie - 4 ; Jackdaw - 8+ ; Starling - 20+ - more juveniles than adults ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - male overflying ; 319 - 2 - circling and calling P.M. for about 10 mins. ; Raven - 1 - mobbing Buzzards and calling loudlly before leaving towards Wharncliffe Crags
  • Derwent Res: Common Sandpiper - 2+ - two territories - birds alarming near dam and in W inlet ; Canada Goose - 7 - pair with 5 well-grown juvs
  • Endclffe Park: Coot - 7 - Two adults and five well-grown young, lower pond.
  • Fulwood garden: House Sparrow - 8 - including four dependent juvs fed by parents ; Greenfinch - 5 - male and four fledged juvs at feeders ; Blue Tit - 2 - fledged juvs at feeders
  • Howden Dam: Cormorant - 4 - on E tower
  • Howden Res: Common Sandpiper - 7 - at least four territories with birds alarming ; Canada Goose - 60 - in West End inlet, including broods of 6, 4 and 3 well-grown juvs ; 319 - 1
  • Longshaw: Meadow Pipit - 1 ; Pied Wagtail - 3 - 1 Juv ; Kestrel - 1 ; Swallow - 2 ; Curlew - 1 ; 324 - 1 - Large Red Damselfly
  • Longstone Edge: Linnet - 6 - family party, including four fledged juvs ; Redstart - 3 - male and two fledged juvs ; Skylark - 6 - including 3 singing
  • Morehall Res: Mallard - 40+ - Including 2 females with 4 ducklings each ; Raven - 1 - Over east calling ; Mallard - 40+ - 3 females with ducklings, 2 with 4, 1 with 3
  • Norfolk Park garden: House Sparrow - 2+ - adult feeding young from bird feeders
  • Padley Gorge: Pied Flycatcher - 1 - Male ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Wood Warbler - 1 - Singing
  • Pebley Pond: Hobby - 1 - Hunting around lake ; Little Egret - 2 - in the morning ; Great Crested Grebe - 2 ; Grey Heron - 2 ; Oystercatcher - 3 ; Mute Swan - 8 - Resident pair with 6 young left ; Swallow - 3+
  • Redmires Res: Little Grebe - 5 - Pair with 3 young on Top Res ; Moorhen - 1 ; Greylag Goose - 36 - Ads & Young - chased by a dog off a lead on Bottom Res ; Canada Goose - 10 - 2 prs with young ; Mallard - 10 - inc female with 6 young ; Oystercatcher - 2 - pair copulating on Middle Res - assume last surviving chick didn’t make it ; Redshank - 1 - flew low to the NW ; Common Sandpiper - 2 - ad with young on Top Res ; Black-headed Gull - 1 ; Herring Gull - 8 ; Cuckoo - 1 - calling by Top Res ; Curlew - 6 - in fields ; Swallow - 4 - inc pair nesting in dilapidated filter tank by Bottom Res ; Swift - 2 ; Whitethroat - 2 - pair carrying food by Bottom Res ; Stonechat - 2 ; Sedge Warbler - 1 - ad seen carrying food and dropping into area of juncos to feed young - first ever breeding record at this site ; Grey Wagtail - 2 ; Bullfinch - 1 - male by Top Res ; Crossbill - 1 - heard by Top Res
  • Spout House Hill: Barn Owl - 1 - hunting
  • White Lee Moor: Stonechat - 1 ; Curlew - 4+ - 2+ juvs heard in meadow

  • Alport Dale: Hobby - 1 - Adult hawking oak eggar moths ; Dipper - 1 - At over 500m asl
  • Alport Moor: Red Kite - 1 - Drifting slowly south
  • Barbrook Pools: Canada Goose - 2+ - family group of 2 ads, 1 young ; Tufted Duck - 1+ - f with 4 small young ; Mallard - 1+ - f with 9 small young
  • Broomhead Res/wood: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 ; Carrion Crow - 2 - Harrasing woodpecker ; Magpie - 3 ; 321 - 1 ; Wren - 02-Mar ; Blackcap - 2 - singing males ; Great Tit - 1 ; Nuthatch - 1 - very noisy due to carrions flying overhead ; Chaffinch - 2 - both singing ; Swallow - 03-Apr - hawking over reservoir ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 ; Blackbird - 4 ; Mallard - 5 - 1 adult with 4 well grown ducklings ; Jackdaw - 4 ; Goldfinch - 07-Aug - small flock flying over ; Robin - 2 ; Chiffchaff - 2 - both calling
