  • Five Weirs Walk: Dipper - 2 - River Don between Stevenson Road and Newhall Road. Pair? ; Mallard - 2 - River Don between Stevenson Road and Newhall Road. Male and Female mating. Spring in the air? ; Cormorant - 1 - River Don between Stevenson Road and Newhall Road. One flying over. ; Goosander - 1 - River Don between Stevenson Road and Newhall Road. Male flying upriver towards city centre. ; Redwing - 5 - Between Newhall Raod and Hawke Street. In berry-bearing trees. ; Goosander - 1 - River Don between Stevenson Road and Newhall Road. Female on River Don.
  • Longshaw: Brambling - c100 - Smaller flocks all morning in vicinity of lodge and car park. At 11.00, gathered into one large flock that did a circuit of the car park before landing in the treetops by the lodge road. ; Grey Wagtail - 1 - by cafe ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 ; Nuthatch - 1 ; 324 - 1 - Stoat - in and out of Rhododendrons near lake
  • Norton Lees garden: Great Tit - 1 - With white tail
  • Peat Pits: Golden Plover - 13+ - 13 over , others calling from rape stubble . ; Starling - 300+ - mobile flock feeding over surrounding fields . ; Fieldfare - 48+ - with starlings ; Stonechat - 2 - m + f feeding at roadside verge .
  • Soughley Lane, Redmires: Fieldfare - 120 - in field with Starlings and Redwings ; Redwing - 20 ; Starling - 400 ; Greylag Goose - 26 - grazing with 26 Canada Geese ; Canada Goose - 26
  • Walkley: Waxwing - 40 - c40 feeding on a rosebush on the edge of the disused playing field, Whitehouse Lane.
  • Wentworth Lakes: Lesser Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - with tit flock by Morley Pond, per BBSG
  • Wharncliffe Side: Raven - 2 - Cronking and flying SW away from Wharncliffe Crags

  • Beauchief Gardens: Mandarin - c17 - Additional to the c16 on Tyzack's Dam
  • Crosspool: Waxwing - 26 - Outside 604 Manchester Road at 16:00 feeding on the ground on fallen berries. ; Waxwing - 23 - Preening in usual perching tree outside 602 Manchester Road at 16:13
  • Endcliffe Park: Dipper - 1 - foraging near Hunters Bar
  • Greystones: Redwing - 15+ - 15+ Feeding regularly each day on Cotoneaster berries. ; Redwing - 15+ - Another picture
  • Greystones garden: Siskin - 1
  • Hangingwater garden: Blackcap - 1 - f on feeders
  • Longshaw: Brambling - 35+ - Two flocks of 15-20 in and around cafe and feeders. ; Chaffinch - c15 ; Blue Tit - 12+ - In a flock ; Long-tailed Tit - 7 ; Nuthatch - 1 ; Treecreeper - 1
  • Manor: Waxwing - 20+ - Harborough Avenue, in tree perching at 13:45
  • Millhouses: Ring-necked Parakeet - 1
  • Norton Lees garden: Goldcrest - 2 - 1 feeding on fat balls, other perched in apple tree briefly - both very confiding
  • Orgreave Lakes: Pink-footed Goose - 1 - With greylags. ; Goldeneye - 5 - 2 males,3 females. ; Goosander - 5 - 3 males,2 redheads.
  • Sheffield University: Peregrine - 1 - on St Georges tower
  • Thrybergh CP: Great Crested Grebe - 13 ; Little Grebe - 1 ; Mute Swan - 9 ; Gadwall - 1 - m ; Wigeon - 3 - distant ; Pochard - 21 - 16m,5f ; Scaup - 2 - imm m ; Tufted Duck - 123 - circa 100and 2scaup came in from w ; Red-legged Partridge - 3+ - calling from fields ; Water Rail - 1 - still very confiding ; Black-headed Gull - 150+ ; Herring Gull - 5 - 2ad 3 1st w ; Tawny Owl - 1 - call from railway emb. 0705 ; Green Woodpecker - 1 - yaff. ; Robin - 32 ; Blackbird - 20 ; Lesser Redpoll - 50 - circa ; Bullfinch - 11 ; Reed Bunting - 4 - mmmf

  • Walkley Bank: Blackcap - 1 - male taking mealworms from garden feeder

  • Bingham Park: Kingfisher - 1 - 11:05 Female on lower pond, caught & ate fish.
  • Canklow: Redwing - 20-30 - feeding on rec field 15.50
  • Catcliffe: Pink-footed Goose - 75-80 - NW at 10:27
  • Crosspool: Waxwing - 25 - at 14:00, harassed by Mistle Thrush ; Redwing - 1
  • Curbar: Waxwing - 3
  • Endcliffe Park: Kingfisher - 1 - Female on upper pond ; Black-headed Gull - 35 - on lower pond & recreation area
  • Greystones: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Female and male in the area over the last fortnight.
  • Greystones garden: Goldcrest - 1
  • Meersbrook: Goldfinch - 6 - In tree on Meersbrook Park Road
  • Meersbrook Park: Redwing - c60+ - Feeding on grassland slopes
  • Orgreave Lakes: Snipe - 1 - Flew from shore of small lake to island ; Goosander - 2 - Male & female on large lake ; Goldeneye - 5 - 2 males, 3 females on large lake
  • Smeltings Farm Ringinglow: Sparrowhawk - 1 - found in a stable after possibly roosting overnight in very cold conditions. After trying to guide the bird out via doors and windows it settled on a low stable door, was picked up and released to fly off unharmed.
  • Treeton Dyke: Goosander - 6 - Redheads
  • Wadsley Common garden: Redwing - 2 - Feeding on cotoneaster berries.
