  • Aldwarke SF: Gadwall - 1 - drake ; Coot - 5 ; Song Thrush - 2 - inc singing male ; Magpie - 25 ; 320 - 9 ; Moorhen - 1 ; Common Buzzard - 1 - harassed by local MGs (presumed same as seen nearby earlier) ; Shoveler - 3 - 2m; 1f ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - hunting ; Long-tailed Tit - 3 ; Pink-footed Goose - c750 - NW in 3 skeins between 1043-1051hrs
  • Barlow Common: Pink-footed Goose - c.250 - 3 skeins in quick succession at 12:40
  • Beauchief Abbey Ponds: 320 - 3 - male plus 2 females
  • Bramley: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Circling over Woodlaithes estate.
  • Canklow Woods: Lesser Redpoll - 27 - flock of 27
  • Centenary Riverside: Redwing - 32 - feeding in thick leaf litter exposed by willow clearance works ; Song Thrush - 3 - singing males ; Mallard - 19 - 15 NE; 4 on river ; Canada Goose - 25 - 5 NW, then SW; 20 S ; Moorhen - 2 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; 320 - 8 ; Snipe - 1 ; Reed Bunting - 1 - f ; Lesser Redpoll - 2 - over ; Stock Dove - 2 - over ; Mistle Thrush - 1 - singing male
  • Dale Dike Res: Greylag Goose - 40+ - probably more, not all of flock visible. ; Mallard - c150
  • Damflask Res: Raven - 1 ; Common Buzzard - 1 - Heard only, not seen, shortly before seeing & hearing Raven. ; Mandarin - 30+
  • Hallowes, Dronfield: Blackcap - 1 - feeding on sunflower hearts; last seen here on 15th Jan
  • Hollow Meadows: Woodcock - 1 - over road late dusk
  • Ibbotson Wheel Dam: Kingfisher - 1
  • Langsett Res: Black-headed Gull - 1700+ ; Common Gull - 50 ; 320 - 13 ; Crossbill - 2
  • Limb Valley: Nuthatch - 1 - ~ 250m above the lake ; Treecreeper - 1 - ~ 250m above the lake ; Goldcrest - 1 - ~250m above the lake
  • Low Bradfield: Raven - 1 - flew low over village, calling
  • Loxley Valley: Pink-footed Goose - 300 - c300 NW over ice cream parlour at 14:25
  • Middleton Moor: Raven - 2
  • Moorgate, Rotherham: Blackcap - 1 - male - feeding on fat balls, returning regularly since 11 am
  • Norton: Ring-necked Parakeet - 2 - Birds flew into trees above Sepentine and flew off east
  • Norwood Allotments: Pink-footed Goose - 49 - 49 NW at 14:50
  • Orgreave Lakes: Ringed Plover - 1 ; Pintail - 1 - male ; Goldeneye - 11
  • Parkgate Canal Basin: Mute Swan - 119 - inc 20 2cy ; Whooper Swan - 1 - 2 cy still present ; Black-headed Gull - c200 ; Herring Gull - 3 ; Mallard - c80 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Mallard - c80
  • Pit-house West: BITTERN - 1 - clambered up reeds on Bittern Pool at 17:20 and dropped down again; a possibe second bird flew across pool to roost at 17:28 ; Water Rail - 2 - one squealing on Bittern pool at dusk and another flew across pool
  • R Don, Centenary Riverside to Main Street: Mallard - 5 - 3m; 2f ; Goosander - 4 - 1m; 3f ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Song Thrush - 1 - singing male ; Mute Swan - 1pr - at Rother/Don confluence ; Cormorant - 1 - adult in breeding plumage flew upriver
  • Redmires Middle Res: Lapwing - c130 - No Waxwings over to roost at dusk tonight.
  • Rivelin Valley: Pink-footed Goose - 330+ - Heading WNW at 14:20
  • Rockingham: Pink-footed Goose - 600-800 - 10:45 - 3 skeins within 2-3 minute period approx. 2-300 each skein
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Pink-footed Goose - c1000 - c250 NW at 09.50, c750 NW 10.40-10.50 in 3 skeins (same as Aldwarke) ; Reed Bunting - 8 - including 2 singing ; Little Grebe - 2 - trilling ; Green Woodpecker - 1 - baffling ; Pochard - 1m ; Short-eared Owl - 1 ; Siskin - 1 ; Mistle Thrush - 1 - singing ; Kestrel - 2 ; 319 - 1 ; Jay - 2 ; Skylark - 15 - 4 singing
  • Strines: Pink-footed Goose - 40-45 - 40-45 over Blindside lane at around 11.00 heading NW
