  • Meersbrook Allotments: Raven - 1 - heading SW.
  • Mount Darnall: Yellow-legged Gull - 1
  • Orgreave Lakes: Iceland Gull - 1 - 2nd Winter in at 08:10. Still present 08:30 ; Redshank - 1
  • Peat Pits: Lapwing - c70 - on rape stubble . ; Grey Partridge - 1+ - calling from rough pasture . ; Skylark - 3 - inc 1 singing .
  • R Don, Salmon Pastures: Chiffchaff - 2 - feeding in riverside buddlea and brambles ; Lesser Redpoll - 1 - over calling

  • Banner Cross: Waxwing - 29 - Still around at 9.00 in tree behind the Methodist church.
  • Endcliffe Park: Kingfisher - 1 - Lower lake at 17:30
  • Montgomery Rd - Crescent junction S7 1LN: Waxwing - c. 50 - Seemed to be feeding on bugs in branch crevices and seed cases high in trees In Montgomery Road gardens. Flew off NE towards Sheaf valley.

  • Abbeydale Rd/Bannerdale Rd junction: Ring-necked Parakeet - 2
  • Banner Cross: Waxwing - 1 - Update and photo of bird seen on 21/02. According to the Grampian ringing group this is a young female ringed in Aberdeen on 27/12/2016. ; Waxwing - c20 - In tree behind Methodist church off Blair Athol Road at 12.30
  • Catcliffe Flash: Mute Swan - 3 - ad pr + 1 imm ; Gadwall - 8+ ; 320 - 21+ ; Shoveler - 2 ; Pochard - 4 ; Tufted Duck - 11 ; Black-headed Gull - 30 ; Coot - 14+
  • Ecclesall: Red Kite - 1 - NW over gardens near Ansell/Mylor Road at 15:40
  • Endcliffe Park: Kingfisher - 1 - Fishing on lower lake at 7:15
  • Kiveton Community Woodland: Little Egret - 1 - flying over the site west towards Rother Valley country park
  • Orgreave Lakes: Redshank - 1 - On small island early morning ; Oystercatcher - 2 ; Goldeneye - 7
  • Rotherham Centre; Main Street: Peregrine - 1 - drifted W/NW directly over council offices @ 0800hrs
  • Sheffield Centre: Waxwing - 40 - on Arundel Street outside Street Food Chef at 16:10
  • Whiteley Woods: Dipper - 1 ; Grey Wagtail - 4 - 1-1-2 including a very cosy pair at Forge Dam ; Treecreeper - 2 ; Goldcrest - 1 ; Greenfinch - 2 ; Goldfinch - 3

Tuesday 21st February 2017

  • Abbey Brook: Kestrel - 2 - pair copulating in large garden adjacent Beauchief Golf Course
  • Banner Cross: Waxwing - 18 - at junction of Brincliffe Edge Road and Ecclesall Road. First seen at 12.00, and present until 13.00, before flying in direction of Bannerdale Road. Included a colour ringed bird.
  • Beauchief Abbey Ponds: 320 - 3 - females
  • Endcliffe Park: Kingfisher - 1 - Flying over the lower lake at 7:05 ; Dipper - 2 - By Hunters Bar at 7:10
  • Five Weirs Walk: Dipper - 1 - Perched on rock/vegetation mid-river close to Stevenson Road bridge. ; Kingfisher - 1 - Flying downstream under Stevenson Rd. Bridge
  • General Cemetery, Sharrow: 319 - 1 - Soaring low, headed towards city centre at 16:20. Unusual here
  • Green Moor: Tawny Owl - 1
  • Kiveton Community Woodland: Kingfisher - 2 - 1 female fishing then brief skirmish with intruder.
  • Nether Edge: Waxwing - 60+ - Carterknowle Road. Large flock gathering together from smaller scattered groups, began moving on fairly quickly.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Goldeneye - 12 (4 males) ; Oystercatcher - 3 ; Ringed Plover - 1 - dep. NW.
  • R Don, Effingham St: Black-headed Gull - c50 - inc striking white leucistic bird
  • R Don, Rotherham; Grafton Bridge: Goosander - 1 - drake flew upriver @ 0743hrs
  • Redmires conduit: Golden Plover - 15 - Flying over, calling, some settling. ; 324 - 1 - Mountain Hare with full white coat in heather
  • Rivelin Valley: Curlew - 16 - feeding in field just W of junction of Rivelin valley road and Rails Road at 09:00. Still there at 12:15
  • Rotherham Centre; Main Street: Mute Swan - 2 - SW @ 0754hrs
  • Rotherham; Northfield: Mute Swan - 7 - SW, presumably from canal basin, @ 0743hrs
  • Sheffield University: Peregrine - 2 - on St George's Church
  • Silverwood Pit Top: Meadow Pipit - 04-May ; Skylark - 3 - Singing ; Reed Bunting - c20 - In mixed flock on stubble field West side of site. ; Yellowhammer - 8 - With Reed Bunting & Meadow pipits ; Short-eared Owl - 3 - Flushed from roost site by dog running loose. ; 319 - 1 - Over Hollings Lane. ; Stonechat - 1 - Male in Gorse next to lagoon ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 ; Goldfinch - c50 - Large flock flying around site feeding on alders ; Black-headed Gull - c300 - On lagoon ; Mute Swan - 2
