  • Orgreave Lakes: GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 - still present at 10:00, feeding around edge of small lake ; GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 - still on island on small lake at 11:50 ; Cuckoo - 1 - Flew east across small lake at 09:30 being chased by a Meadow Pipit. ; BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 2 - Still present among Great Crested Grebes ; GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 - Still there at 18.00 [and at 19:00] ; GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 - Still present this evening and showing well. ; GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 - another photo ; GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 - in flight ; GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 - 2nd photo
  • Peat Pits: QUAIL - 1 - Heard calling from 15.40-1600
  • RVCP: Gadwall - 7 - Female and 6 ducklings on the R. Rother.
  • RVCP, Meadowgate Lake: Sedge Warbler - 1 - Singing
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Grasshopper Warbler - 1 - reeling near Hollings Lane entrance at 00.10

Friday 9th June 2017

  • Ashop Moor: Curlew - 8 - Four pairs
  • Bar Brook Valley: Whinchat - 7+ ; Garden Warbler - 1 ; Reed Bunting - 1
  • Bradwell: Grey Wagtail - 1
  • Canyards: Nightjar - 1 - churring after dark.
  • Crookstone Moor: Golden Plover - 2 - Pair
  • Manor Park: Red Kite - 1 - drifted south at 18:05
  • Orgreave Lakes: BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 2 - still present.
  • Peat Pits: QUAIL - 1+ - At least one audible, sounding close to road from all points of the road 'square' though only one calling from each spot.
  • Rowlee Bridge: Ring Ouzel - 1 ; Stonechat - 2 - Male with at least 1 juv ; Willow Warbler - 1 - Carrying food ; Whinchat - 2 - males, one calling, one singing

  • Limb Valley: Red Kite - 1 - from Sheephill Road, flying along edge of Limb Valley to Ringinglow
  • Meersbrook Park: Swift - c6
  • Middleton Moor: Canada Goose - 10 ; Curlew - 1 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 24 ; Black-headed Gull - 8 - adults ; 320 - 2 - males ; Mallard - 6
  • Norton Lees: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Over
  • Peat Pits: QUAIL - 3 - calling from rough grass fields at 22:00
  • R Sheaf, Heeley: Dipper - 1 ; Mandarin - 7 - 1 female + 6 chicks
  • Sheffield Centre: Peregrine - 4 - Adult & 3 Juveniles, climbing over the Church tower ; Peregrine - 4
  • Stocksbridge: Hobby - 1 - flew south at 14:15, interacting with local Jackdaws

Wednesday 7th June 2017

  • Canklow: Great Tit - 8 - ad feeding 7 noisy young
  • Fox Hill: Hobby - 1 - Hunting over farmland
  • Longshaw: Redstart - 2 - pair ; Mistle Thrush - 5+ - 1 plus adults and juveniles ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - male ; Great Tit - 10+ - 2 pairs of adults in separate locations charging around feeding recently fledged singing/cheeping young.
  • Peat Pits: QUAIL - 1 - calling distantly from Bent Hills Farm.
  • Rawmarsh:Haugh Rd: Greylag Goose - 5 - SW ; Tufted Duck - 1 - m N @ 07.30 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 13 - on playing field @ 07.45
  • Stubley Hollow: Chiffchaff - 3 singing - Garden Warbler - 1 singing, Whitethroat - 1 singing, Skylark 1 singing, Song Thrush 1 singing, Buzzard - 1, Little Owl - 1, Robin 6 ( 2 juvs)
  • Wadsley Common garden: Bullfinch - 7 - 4 males, female, and 2 juveniles on feeders.

Tuesday 6th June 2017

  • Firsby Res: Moorhen - 2 ; Mallard - 10 - 2 male 1 female with 7 ducklings ; Grey Heron - 2 - Adult with juvenile big pond ; Garden Warbler - 2 ; Whitethroat - 1 ; Kestrel - 1
  • Linacre Res: Mandarin - 10 - 8 adults plus two females with broods of 5 and 8 young ; Mallard - 4 - 3 broods of 6, 7 and 8 young each with 1-2 adults. ; Great Crested Grebe - 5 - 5 adults including a pair with one small chick. ; Tufted Duck - 12
  • Ravenfield Park: Kingfisher - 2 - Both on small stock pond Eastern end. ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Magpie - 2 ; Jay - 1 ; Chiffchaff - 05-Jun - Singing ; Willow Warbler - 2 ; Long-tailed Tit - c20 - Flock of mostly juveniles in various stages of fledging
