  • Ulley CP: Tufted Duck - 24 ; Little Grebe - 1 ; 320 - 1 ; Lesser Redpoll - 9+ ; Mute Swan - 5 - 2 ads, 3 1cy (family party) ; Cormorant - 1 ; Moorhen - 5+
  • Woodfoot: Sparrowhawk - 1 - W, over Long Lane towards Canklow Meadows
  • Wortley: Mistle Thrush - 1 - Singing AM ; Meadow Pipit - 1 ; 319 - 3 ; Redwing - c20

Saturday 16th December 2023

  • Broomhall: Waxwing - 20+ - Westbourne Rd
  • Canklow Woods: Common Buzzard - 2 - 2 in the air together at 0930
  • Cemetery Ave: Waxwing - 3 - briefly at 10:30 ; Waxwing - 5 - 12:10 - perched in large tree near rowans, some flycatching, flushed by female Sparrowhawk
  • Chesterfield: Kestrel - 1 - in trees by station
  • Ecclesall Road: Waxwing - 80+ - Single flock of 80+ birds flying over from Cemetery Avenue.
  • Frecheville: Waxwing - c50 - Flew south over the shopping centre on Birley Moor Rd.
  • Gillfield Wood: Nuthatch - 1 - Calling from tops of trees in centre of wood ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - Flying low over fields on north side of wood
  • Graves Park: Goosander - 11 - Boating Lake 9 males 2 redheads ; Little Grebe - 1 ; Ring-necked Parakeet - 4+ ; Nuthatch - 2 - 2 singles
  • High Street, Ecclesfield: Fieldfare - 2 - West with Redwings ; Redwing - 10 - West,with Fieldfares.
  • Holmesfield: Waxwing - 4+ - still present this morning per DOS
  • Longshaw: Mandarin - 20+
  • Middleton Moor: 320 - 121 ; Tufted Duck - 4 ; Mute Swan - 1 - an immature ; Lapwing - 6
  • Norton Lees garden: Long-tailed Tit - 3
  • Redmires Res: Black-headed Gull - 350 - c. roosted on Top Res ; Canada Goose - 25 - c. in fields ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - female flew W at dusk ; Kestrel - 1 ; Waxwing - 163 - c. flew W to roost between 14:50 and 15:50 hrs with around 75 dropping into conifers and the rest continuing NW over moors towards Moscar / Strines ; Fieldfare - 150 - c. flew SW on to moors to roost ; Chaffinch - 8 - flew W to roost ; Brambling - 25 - flew W to roost ; Siskin - 12 - flew W to roost ; Lesser Redpoll - 15 - c. flew W to roost ; Goldfinch - 29 - flew W to roost ; Herring Gull - 1 - ad flew W at dusk
  • RVCP: Common Buzzard - 8 - rare to see this many together in winter ; Raven - 1 - flew east ; Curlew - 1 - flew north,called several times,,very rare in winter ; Waxwing - 5 - small party west calling
  • Thrybergh CP: Mute Swan - 22 ; Tufted Duck - 60+ ; Pochard - 15 ; Goldeneye - 1 - redhead ; Gadwall - 3 ; Water Rail - 1 ; Great Crested Grebe - 4 ; Little Grebe - 5 ; Black-headed Gull - c150 ; Common Gull - 2 ; Goldcrest - 1 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Coal Tit - 1 ; Nuthatch - 1 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 ; 319 - 2 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - male ; Siskin - 4
  • Woodhouse Washlands: Wigeon - 23 ; 321 - 3 ; Goosander - 1 - Male flew south down the Rive Rother. ; Redwing - c20 ; Snipe - 0 - 0 Snipe or Jack Snipe in a thorough search. This has never happened in multiple winter visits to this site which commenced in 1975.

Friday 15th December 2023

  • Aldwarke: Kestrel - 1 - male, Asda carpark ; Black-headed Gull - c20 - Asda car park at dawn ; Pied Wagtail - 9+ - around Asda at dawn (probably a small roost on roof)
  • Beauchief Golf Course: Mandarin - 32 ; Mallard - 27 ; Moorhen - 7 - Five adults and two juvenile
  • Botanical Gardens: Common Buzzard - 1 - Drifting over harassed by a gull
  • Cemetery Ave: Waxwing - 58+ ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - Female flushed the Waxwings at 14.50 .They did not return. ; 319 - 1
  • Crowhole: Goosander - 2 - 2 females; never seen them here before. ; Mistle Thrush - 1 ; Grey Heron - 2
  • Dalton: Long-tailed Tit - 5 - on ex-sewage works site ; Redwing - 4 ; Pheasant - 1 ; Song Thrush - 1
  • Hangingwater garden: Long-tailed Tit - 10
  • Hanover Way: Waxwing - 21 - Left at 14.00 in the direction of Cemetery Ave.
  • Hassop: Waxwing - 10 - On track next to station cafe. Feeding in tree tops. ; Redwing - 50+ - Feeding on berries on track by station car park ; Fieldfare - 60+ - Feeding on berries on track by station car park
  • Holmesfield: Waxwing - c40 - Two flocks near Angel pub at 10:45
  • Leash Fen: Great Grey Shrike - 1 - West side of plantation top of tree then flew off.
  • Middleton Moor: 320 - 108 ; Wigeon - 1 - Drake
