  • Rocher Wood: Little Owl - 1 ; Nuthatch - 2 - pair regularly attending nest box ( this box was previously taken by blue tits who were seen taking in nest material on April 20th). ; Pied Flycatcher - 4 - 3m , 1f . ; Redstart - 2 - singing males . ; Blackbird - 2 - male feeding fledged juv .
  • Rotherham Centre: Common Buzzard - 2 - 2 in the air together over police sta at 1310
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Gadwall - 1pr ; Tufted Duck - 4 ; Moorhen - 4 ; Coot - 12 ; Little Grebe - 6 - probably 3 pairs nesting ; Reed Bunting - 4 - singing ; Sedge Warbler - 2 - singing ; Reed Warbler - 6 - singing ; Grasshopper Warbler - 1 - seems to have found its voice in recent days and now reeling earlier and for longer periods ; Linnet - 12+ - several pairs breeding ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 - adult south ; Stock Dove - 1 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Yellowhammer - 2 - singing ; Lapwing - 1 ; Common Buzzard - 2 ; Whitethroat - 15+ - still plenty singing around pit top ; Lesser Whitethroat - 1 - singing ; Garden Warbler - 1 - singing ; House Martin - 8 - a few over Woodlaithes end of pit top ; Song Thrush - 2 - singing ; Skylark - 3 - singing ; Swallow - 2
  • Wadsley Common: Cuckoo - 2 - Heard calling from opposite ends of Common ; Garden Warbler - 1 - Singing. ; Yellowhammer - 2 - Seen flying and singing. ; Jay - 2 ; Blackcap - 2 - 1 male and 1 female seen.
  • Wharncliffe Side: Sand Martin - 4 - 4 birds flying around earth workings from demolished tissue factory next to river Don

  • Aldwarke: Lapwing - 1pr - possibly with young ; Song Thrush - 2 - inc 1 singing ; Willow Warbler - 1 - singing ; Linnet - 3 - 1pr + 1 singing ; Whitethroat - 1 - singing ; Gadwall - 1pr - circled & dropped onto pond ; Sand Martin - 2 - NE ; Swift - 44 - moved NE together in a loose flock
  • Burbage Valley: Ring Ouzel - 1 ; Whinchat - 2 - M&F ; Whinchat - 2 - Male ; Willow Warbler - 2 ; Cuckoo - 2 - Heard calling at the same time from different places ; Meadow Pipit - 3 ; Kestrel - 1
  • Burncross, Chapeltown: Coal Tit - 1 - Regular to feeders in garden
  • Cowell Flat: Lapwing - 2 - 1 adult with single 10 day old ?chick.
