  • Thrybergh CP: Grey Wagtail - 2 ; Wren - 10 ; Dunnock - 22 ; Robin - 17 ; Redwing - 12 - + ; Chiffchaff - 3 ; Long-tailed Tit - 20 - + in 2 flocks ; Chaffinch - 17 ; Reed Bunting - 5 ; Yellowhammer - 1
  • Wharncliffe Side: Tree Sparrow - 1 - in observers garden

Wednesday 16th October 2019

  • Attercliffe: Peregrine - 1 - adult on Bernard Rd incinerator building
  • Bingham Park: 319 - 2 - circling quite low
  • Canyards: Stonechat - 6 - all fly catching from heather tops.
  • Centenary Riverside: Kestrel - 1 - Female sat on henge then hunting over site.14.00 ; Kingfisher - 1 - Flew up river under bridge then successfull fishing hunt 14.10 to 14.30.
  • Endcliffe Park: Mandarin - 30 - 17m + 13f on upper pond
  • Firsby Res: Mallard - 11 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - 22 - Down on Main Res with Mallard. ; 319 - 1 - Perched on telegraph pole in set aside field. ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - Female low along road. ; Jay - 2 ; Song Thrush - 2 ; Pheasant - 7 - Feeding together on farmland.
  • Hangingwater garden: Starling - c 25 - over SW
  • Malin Bridge: Song Thrush - 1 - not seen in garden for several years, coming in with house sparrows.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Goldeneye - 1 - Male on main lake this morning ; Mediterranean Gull - 1 - 1st Winter from midday ; Little Egret - 2 - On island
  • R Don, Effingham St: Goosander - 2 - Redheads. One caught a Signal Crayfish and swallowed it whole, after shaking the claws off.
  • R Don, Rotherham Centre; adjacent Forge Island: Grey Heron - 1 - juv
  • R Don, Stevenson Rd: Swallow - 4 - W over Grimesthorpe
  • Sothall: Redwing - 23 - between midnight and 0630hr (100 total overnight) ; Song Thrush - 4 - between midnight and 0630hr (total 11 overnight) ; Golden Plover - 1 - nocmig recorded
  • Strines Moor: Pink-footed Goose - 750 - Five skeens over between Strines Moor and Emlin Moor between 17 50 and 18 10 all heading East. C250/150/150/100/100.
  • West Nab: Mistle Thrush - 7 - sat on wires pre roost . ; Jackdaw - c200 - heading east. ; Pink-footed Goose - c300 - 3 skeins heading east at dusk.
  • White Lee Moor: Redwing - 31 - heading west at dusk.

Tuesday 15th October 2019

  • Attercliffe: Peregrine - 1 - ad on Bernard Rd incinerator building ; Yellow-legged Gull - 1 - regular limping adult Warren St
  • Carr Vale NR: YELLOW-BROWED WARBLER - 1 - still present by bottom path between sewage works and embankment 50 yards before large oak (In SBSG area) ; YELLOW-BROWED WARBLER - 1 - still present in the afternoon but extremely elusive; some calling heard at the embankment c.13.15 the only sign between 09.55 and 17.30
  • Dale Dyke: YELLOW-BROWED WARBLER - 1 - a late report (received 16th)
  • Hudson*s Rough: 319 - 1 - Low over wood, mobbed by Carrion Crows. ; Woodpigeon - 10+ ; Robin - 1 - at least 1 singing ; Wren - 1+ - inc 1 singing ; Long-tailed Tit - 1+ ; Blue Tit - 1+ ; Great Tit - 1+ ; Nuthatch - 1+ ; Treecreeper - 1 - calls
  • Lodge Moor garden: Brambling - 1 ; Bullfinch - 2
  • Owlerton: Mistle Thrush - c20 - Near dog track 5.30pm
  • R Don, Effingham St: Goosander - 1 - redhead
  • Redmires Middle Res: Golden Plover - c200 and c80 Lapwings - Golden Plovers very mobile, disappeared north west.
  • Redmires Top Res: Tufted Duck - 10 - also 2 Bullfinch at roadside
  • Roughwood Rec: Black-headed Gull - 60+ - @ 10:40 also 1 Herring Gull.
  • Shepherd*s Plantation: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - calls ; Long-tailed Tit - 10+ ; Blue Tit - 1+ ; Great Tit - 1+ ; Nuthatch - 1+ ; Jay - 1 - carrying acorn.
  • Sothall: Redwing - 77 - nocmig recorded up until midnight ; Song Thrush - 7 - nocmig recorded up until midnight ; Redshank - 1 - nocmig recorded 2325hr
  • Wharncliffe Heath NR: Redwing - 30+ - low over heath to the north ; Green Woodpecker - 1 - calling ; Meadow Pipit - 1 ; Skylark - 3 - flew over calling ; Jay - 3 ; Long-tailed Tit - 10+ ; Nuthatch - 3+ ; Treecreeper - 3 ; Common Buzzard - 1

Monday 14th October 2019

  • Carr Vale NR: YELLOW-BROWED WARBLER - 1 - reported at 14.15 by bottom path between sewage works + embankment just beyond large oak, showing well [so may be in SBSG recording area]
  • Crowhole: Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Nuthatch - 1 ; Coal Tit - 1 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 ; Pied Wagtail - 4
  • Limb Valley: Pink-footed Goose - 250+ - NW over Bole Hill in 3 skeins. Not sure about the count, but quite sure that they were moving steadily in westerly direction at 10:00, so presumably different from the Thrybergh birds - unless they did two U-turns in rapid succession!
  • Norton Lees: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1
  • Orgreave Lakes: Goldeneye - 1 - eclipse male.
  • R Don, Rotherham Centre; weir: Grey Heron - 1 - juv fishing below weir @ 1330hrs ; Cormorant - 1 - juv fishing below weir @ 1330hrs
  • Scholes: Goose sp - 60+ - N @ 10:20.
  • Scholes Ground: 319 - 1 - calling
  • Thrybergh CP: Great Crested Grebe - 2 - single ads ; Little Grebe - 4 - fam.party 2a2j ; Cormorant - 4 ; Mute Swan - 14 - inc 2a4j in from n 4j left n ; Pink-footed Goose - 200 - WNW @ 10:25 ; Canada Goose - 120 ; Gadwall - 2 - mf
