Wharncliffe Res: Linnet - 110 ; Meadow Pipit - 9 - south 07:00-07:30 ; Chiffchaff - 1 - singing ; 319 - 1 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Thrush sp - 2 - Song Thrush/Redwing looking, flew at medium height, assumed migrant.

Ecclesfield Dam: Kingfisher - 1 ; House Martin - 5 ; Linnet - 50+ - Feeding in trees at rear of dam

Greasbrough: Pink-footed Goose - c70 - Calling flying east at 08:30

Midhopestones: Corn Bunting - 1 - reported sat on a stone wall next to Midhope Hall Lane at 14:15

Silverwood Lagoon: Pink-footed Goose - c440 - 30,80,100,100,50,80 ESE 08:40-09:20 ; Mute Swan - 6 - another immature gone missing, and male floating dead on lagoon (found yesterday)

Wharncliffe Res: Osprey - 1 - 7.35am Sat on telegraph pole on Woodhead Rd near entrance to res for 5 mins before flying towards Howbrook. ; Snipe - 1 - NW calling ; Meadow Pipit - 10 - South ; Swallow - 4 ; Linnet - c150 ; Kestrel - 1

Wortley: Meadow Pipit - c150 - 2 separate groups in fields either side of Stocksbridge by-pass near Bromley ; Goldfinch - 18 ; Starling - c60 ; 319 - 2 ; Swallow - 5

Barley Hall: Chiffchaff - 1 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; 319 - 1 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 ; Swallow - 10 ; Long-tailed Tit - 6

Big Moor: Merlin - 2 - Collaboratively hunting an catching a Meadow Pipit

Birley Edge: Pink-footed Goose - c 80 - One skein calling and flying east at 09:50

Burbage Rocks: Wheatear - 1 - Perched on a rock. ; Kestrel - 1 - flying alongside rocks

Carr House Lane: Merlin - 1 - Male flew across road in front of car and perched briefly.

Carr Vale Nature Reserve: Jack Snipe - 1 ; Snipe - 4 - one being chased by a Jackdaw ; Little Egret - 2 ; GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 - mobbed at one stage by two Grey Herons ; Barnacle Goose - 1

Dog Kennel Pond: Great Crested Grebe - 1+ ; Cormorant - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - 30+ ; Mute Swan - 2 - adult and juv ; Tufted Duck - 1+ ; Grey Wagtail - 3

Firsby Res: GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 - Flying past North towards Dearne Valley ; Peregrine - 1 - On pylon in adjacent field . ; Pink-footed Goose - 100c - Over high South, 2 long skeins. ; Swallow - 4 ; House Martin - 2 - With Swallows.

Handsworth garden: Grey Wagtail - 1 - In standing water on flat garage roof.

Hangingwater garden: Coal Tit - 2 - first for months

Ibbotson*s Dam: Kingfisher - 1 - Male seen at Shepherds Wheel & Wire Mill Dam assumed same ; Grey Wagtail - 1

Midhope Res: Black-headed Gull - c1200 - Majority left NE from roost 6.50-7.20 ; Greylag Goose - c600 - NE 6.50-7.45 in several groups, presumably from Langsett Res roost ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - c80 - NE with BHG’s, numbers probably higher amongst BHG’s ; Canada Goose - 37 - east ; Tufted Duck - 9 ; Little Grebe - 3 ; Meadow Pipit - 7 ; Snipe - 1 - west ; House Martin - c50 ; Mallard - 64 ; Peregrine - 1 - South towards moors ; Starling - 22 ; Jay - 2+ ; Barn Owl - 1 - Patch tick. Seen 06:50-07.:10, flew up the res overflow resting several times on post before into woods on western side. ; Chiffchaff - 3+ ; 319 - 01-Feb ; Pied Wagtail - 10 ; 320 - 38 - Southern shoreline ; Linnet - c230 - Roaming from res area to fields below Upper Midhope. 184 counted on wires at one point with more elsewhere. ; Grey Wagtail - 3
