  • Poolsbrook Marsh: Reed Bunting - 2 ; Raven - 2 - on electricity pylons - flew off E ; Reed Bunting - 10 - c. from roost
  • Rawmarsh: Sparrowhawk - 1 - E, then SE in morning ; Mistle Thrush - 1 - on Methodist Church spire on and off during day. No song heard yet.
  • Redmires conduit: Kestrel - 1 ; Mistle Thrush - 1 ; Red Grouse - 1 ; Lapwing - 70
  • Redmires Middle Res: Cormorant - 2
  • RVCP, Main Lake: Curlew - 1 - flew east calling,,,unseasonal
  • RVCP, Meadowgate Lake: 320 - 160 - max count in later months
  • Silver Wood: Nuthatch - 4+ - Numerous birds calling in tree tops. ; Treecreeper - 1 ; Jay - 1 - Call only. ; Coal Tit - 3 ; Blue Tit - 20+ - Inc 6 together near terraced houses. ; Great Tit - 4+ ; Chaffinch - 1 - Female. ; Goldcrest - 2 ; Woodpigeon - 100+ - Flushed from tree tops by calling Buzzard. ; 319 - 1 - Over woods calling.
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Fieldfare - 12 - an almost total clear-out of thrushes now ; Mute Swan - 0 - final surviving immature vanished, presumed dead (never able to fly), female now departed ; Herring Gull - 7 - party north ; Cormorant - 1 - north ; Common Gull - 2 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 3 ; Black-headed Gull - c.50 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Tufted Duck - 4 ; Meadow Pipit - 1
  • Walkley garden: Blackcap - 1 - Female on seed feeder with House Sparrow

  • Barbrook Valley: Red Grouse - 1
  • Brownhills Lane: Greylag Goose - 55 - c. in fields
  • Firsby Res: Mallard - 3 - Flew from small Res. ; Mute Swan - 4 - Pair left towards TCP, other pair main Res. ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - Male ; Mistle Thrush - 1 ; Song Thrush - 1 ; Redwing - 25+ ; Fieldfare - 40+ - In 2 flocks over. ; Blackbird - 20+ - feeding on fallen apples. ; Reed Bunting - 1 ; Skylark - 3 - Over farmland. ; Linnet - 8 ; Pheasant - 1 - Male
  • Graves Park: Ring-necked Parakeet - c30 - c30 over at 15:58 - presumably to roost
  • Greystones garden: Blackcap - 1 - Observer's garden
  • Malin Bridge: Mistle Thrush - 1 - given up guarding the rowan berries in Norris Rd.
  • Redmires Res: Black-headed Gull - 185 - c. roosted ; Common Gull - 1 - 1st-winter roosted with BHGs
  • Thrybergh CP: Gadwall - 66 ; Tufted Duck - 58 ; Shoveler - 11 ; Wigeon - 1 ; Pochard - 9 ; Great Crested Grebe - 15 ; Little Grebe - 6 ; Water Rail - 2 ; Pied Wagtail - 15+ - In sheep field
  • Tyzack*s Dam: Goosander - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - 20

  • Bradfield Dale: Woodcock - 1 - flew out of bracken near Blindside Lane
  • Harthill Res: Grey Plover - 5 - partway down the west side of res; flew to NW corner then later back again. ; Redwing - 1 ; Coal Tit - 1 ; 320 - 4+ ; Redshank - 1
  • Malin Bridge: Redwing - 7+ - on Rowan again with a Mistle Thrush
  • Newbold, Chesterfield: Sparrowhawk - 1 ; Long-tailed Tit - 3 ; Blackcap - 2 - Male and female visiting garden feeders ; Greenfinch - 5
  • Oaks Piece: Reed Bunting - 2 - male and female near footpath along SW edge of former plantation.
  • Rawmarsh: Mistle Thrush - 1 - on mobile mast, Bellows Road moving to Methodist Church spire later
  • Redmires Res: 320 - 2 ; Lapwing - 50 - c. ; Brambling - 1 - by Top Res ; Mistle Thrush - 3 ; Redwing - 12 - flew SW ; Herring Gull - 5 - flew SW
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Short-eared Owl - 1 - seen by dog-walker
  • Wadsley Bridge: Goldcrest - 1 - Calling on Foxhill Rd at 10:20

Wednesday 21st December 2022

  • Aldwarke; Liberty Steels: Peregrine - 2 - probably a pair, interacting briefly before one settled on water tower; one 'buzzed' Raven over complex ; Raven - 1 - low over complex briefly, harassed by Peregrine
  • Canklow Woods: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Treecreeper - 1 ; Goldcrest - 2 ; Common Buzzard - 1 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 ; Jackdaw - 8 ; Blue Tit - 5
  • Handsworth garden: Reed Bunting - 1 - female on fat ball feeder
  • Malin Bridge: Redwing - 10+ - coming in to garden all week in Norris Rd. Not many rowan berries left now.
  • Middleton Moor: Lapwing - 147 ; 320 - 8 ; Greylag Goose - 3
  • Millhouses: Redwing - 10 - along Sheaf Valley Walk with one visiting the observer's garden.
