  • Smithy Wood: Kestrel - 1 ; Sparrowhawk - 2 - Briefly joined the Buzzards circling ; Linnet - 8 - Increase in numbers ; Skylark - 6+ - Good numbers in a relatively small area. Song/display ; Meadow Pipit - 7+ - Moving NW over site ; Snipe - 15 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 2 - 2 ads NW
  • Southgrove Road: Blackcap - 1 - Garden adj to Botanical Gardens. Male now daily at feeders for two months
  • Spout House Hill: Fieldfare - 150+ - flew west at dusk
  • Stannington: Redwing - 5 - In paddock below Oldfield Road ; Tawny Owl - 1 - In flight by farm below Oldfield Rd
  • Thrybergh CP: Mute Swan - 68
  • Underbank Res: Little Grebe - 1 - "astonishingly the first I've had here since one found dead in the mid-1970's" ; Chiffchaff - 2 - first of year here

Monday 15th March 2021

  • Agden Res: Crossbill - 14 - over calling
  • Barlborough: Little Egret - 1 - Flying very low north east over housing estate.
  • Birley Edge: Mistle Thrush - 1 - Singing
  • Canklow Woods: Chiffchaff - 1 - singing
  • Cross Hill Ecclesfield: Common Buzzard - 1 - Over west
  • Damflask Res: Mandarin - 9 - by dam
  • Ewden Height: Lapwing - c20 - Fields below ridge ; Curlew - 2 ; Meadow Pipit - 1
  • Firsby Res: Moorhen - 1 ; Mallard - 3 - All Males. ; 319 - 1 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - Calling in woodland. ; Song Thrush - 1 - Singing. ; Chiffchaff - 1 - Singing in willows large Res.
  • Freebirch: Tree Sparrow - 1 - In stubble field with skylarks
  • Fulwood garden: Song Thrush - 2 - Singing male and much chasing ; Pheasant - 1 - Male ; Siskin - 4 - 2 pairs, much singing ; Reed Bunting - 1 - At feeders again
  • Greno Wood: Chiffchaff - 1 - In song
  • Greystones: 319 - 3 - Circling together over observer's garden ; Great Tit - 2 - Inspecting nest box in OG ; Woodpigeon - 3 - One still on nest in next doors garden, been there now for 2 weeks.
  • Harthill Res: Water Rail - 1 - Walking steadily along west side of first dam,
  • Hathersage: Brambling - 1 - At garden feeder
  • High Bradfield: White-fronted Goose - 1 - still present with c40 Greylags in fields below Watt House.
  • Hudson*s Rough: Tawny Owl - 1 - Calling @ 09:25, adj to site of former International Centre ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - drumming ; Wren - 4 - singing ; Dunnock - 1 - singing ; Robin - 4 - singing ; Blackbird - 1 - singing ; Coal Tit - 1 - singing ; Great Tit - 1 - singing ; Treecreeper - 1 - singing ; Goldcrest - 1 - calling while active around ivy covered tree. ; Chaffinch - 1 - singing
  • Kimberworth Park: Blackbird - 1 - singing @ Ashworth Drive.
  • Limb Valley: Bullfinch - 1 ; Stock Dove - 4 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 ; 319 - 1 ; Raven - 1 ; Redwing - 15 ; Fieldfare - 1 ; Mistle Thrush - 1 ; Curlew - 1 - calling and displaying over nearby fields ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - displaying over woodland ; Mandarin - 2
  • Loxley Chase: Curlew - 3 - my first of the spring
  • Malin Bridge: Blackcap - 1 - male singing am and seen briefly
  • Mayfield Valley: LONG-TAILED SKUA - 1 - still present and showing well in field at the top of Clough Lane ; LONG-TAILED SKUA - 1 - preening ; LONG-TAILED SKUA - 1 - Feeding and in flight around Clough Lane, looked much healthier ; LONG-TAILED SKUA - 1 ; LONG-TAILED SKUA - 1 - Bit of wing exercise photo
  • Midhope Moor: 319 - 3 ; Golden Plover - Pair - Display flight
  • Midhope Res: Fieldfare - c100 ; Siskin - 2 ; Curlew - c30 - c20 east towards Barnside Moor + singles around including one twisting low over water as it visited fields nearby. ; Starling - c 140 - West in small groups ; Oystercatcher - Pair ; 320 - Pair ; Meadow Pipit - c15 - Small groups over west 8-9am ; Song Thrush - 3 singing ; Crossbill - 1+ ; Skylark - 1 singing ; Lapwing - 3 ; Goldeneye - Pair ; Little Grebe - 3 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Redwing - 1 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Grey Heron - 1
  • Millhouses: Blackcap - 1 - Overwintering male now in full song in Stowe Avenue garden
  • Norfolk Park: Ring-necked Parakeet - 1 - Flew over my garden then two hours later I saw on fly over Norfolk Heritage Park. ; Nuthatch - 1 - One bird calling by, and entering a hole in, an Ash tree in Park Grange Rd.
  • Onksley Lane: Curlew - 14
  • Orgreave Lakes: Great Crested Grebe - 7 ; Goldeneye - 7 ; Stonechat - 1 - Female
  • Oughtibridge garden: Lesser Redpoll - 2 - first time seen in garden for at least 20 years. ; Rook - 4 - First seen in garden was in May 2019, but this winter they have been more regular, and more numerous.
  • Overstones Farm: Curlew - 3 - 4+ calling from moor & fields
