  • Rawmarsh; High Street: Sparrowhawk - 2 - one in full 'switchback' display flight while a second flew over to E, 1250hrs
  • Rockingham Wood: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - drumming and 'rattle' calls from N end of wood.
  • Scholes, Cinder Hills: Chiffchaff - 1 - singing ; Red Kite - 1 - 1 flew over at about 11am. I walked away and had another sighting 7mins later coming from opposite direction to first bird. ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 2 - Both drumming.
  • Silver Wood: Song Thrush - 2 - one singing woods, one singing near r/way line pond ; Mistle Thrush - 1 - singing ; Nuthatch - 6 - two pairs main woods, pair strip of woodland south of Hollings Lane. All very vocal ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - 'drumming' ; Chaffinch - c.10 - including several singing in woods either side of Hollings Lane ; Yellowhammer - 1 - singing on upper-level of Pingle Lane Tip ; Lapwing - 4 - two pairs displaying over fields between woods and Pingle Lane Tip ; Chiffchaff - 1 - singing along disused railway line ; Bullfinch - 2 - disused r/way line ; Skylark - 6 - in fields between woods and Pingle Lane Tip, 2 singing
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Little Grebe - 6 - probably three pairs established. Lots of 'trilling' ; Coot - 12 ; Moorhen - 4 ; Mute Swan - 1pr ; Tufted Duck - 6 ; Black-headed Gull - 30 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 2 - presumed pair. Been regular at site for past three years but no evidence of any breeding ; Linnet - 12 - several pairs in usual nest sites in areas of gorse around pit top ; Reed Bunting - 4 - singing ; Skylark - 4 - singing ; Chiffchaff - 2 - singing ; Song Thrush - 1 - singing ; Common Buzzard - 4 - in the air together, very vocal ; Snipe - 1 ; Jay - 2 ; Jackdaw - 5 - 3-1-1 north ; Grey Partridge - 1
  • Sothall: Whooper Swan - 1+ - nocmig sound recorded over garden 2143hr ; Moorhen - 1 - nocmig recorded over garden 2057hr and 2340hr
  • Stannington, west: Curlew - 1 - in fields near Flash Farm - my first of the year here
  • Stubley Hollow: Chiffchaff - 1 singing ; Bullfinch - 7 ; 319 - 1
  • Upper Common, Scholes: Linnet - 200+ - Feeding then scattering into SW edge of Shepherd's Plantation and adj scrub.
  • Wentworth: Red-legged Partridge - 3 - Field close to garden center
  • Wharncliffe Side: Chiffchaff - 1 - singing
  • White Lee Moor: Crossbill - 25+ - In plantation ; Siskin - 8+ - In plantation, some song ; Red Grouse - 1 - Display on small area of moorland N of plantation ; Song Thrush - 1 - Singing

  • Barlow Common: Chiffchaff - 1 - heard only ; 319 - 3 ; Grey Wagtail - 3 ; Pied Wagtail - 2+ ; Pheasant - 1
  • Canklow Woods: Chiffchaff - 2 - singing ; Common Buzzard - 6 - in the air together at 11:40
  • Centenary Riverside: Reed Bunting - 1 - Female on bullrusheds top pond 12.00 ; Long-tailed Tit - 2 ; Blue Tit - 2 - Pair feeding with LTT's ; Robin - 2 - Singing ; Wren - 4 - Singing ; Cormorant - 1 - Over ; Canada Goose - 3 - River ; 324 - 1 - Small Tortoiseshell.
  • Dore: Red Kite - 1 - Flying over gardens in Dore
  • Dronfield: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Circled over Greendale before heading towards Frith Wood
  • Endcliffe Park: Sparrowhawk - 2 - Pair
  • General Cemetery, Sharrow: Chiffchaff - 1 - singing
  • Graves Park: Ring-necked Parakeet - 22 - 22 - flying; 3 separate groups ; 324 - 3 - Bat
  • Greystones garden: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Female in observer's garden ; Great Tit - 2 - Investigating nest box in observer's garden
  • Hagg Lane Allotments: Sparrowhawk - 1 ; 319 - 3 - Circling over fields below allotments ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 2 - Drumming ; Dunnock - 5 ; Bullfinch - 2 ; Nuthatch - 1 ; House Sparrow - 5 ; Long-tailed Tit - 2
  • Kimberworth: Goldcrest - 1 - High up in the trees at the bottom of Masbrough Cemetery
  • Lodge Moor garden: Grey Wagtail - 1 - on edge of garden pond.
  • Longley Park: Ring-necked Parakeet - 0 - No sign of any parakeets,usual nesting tree has been reduced to a stump.
  • Mayfield Valley: LONG-TAILED SKUA - 1 - Still present this morning ,field near the top of Clough lane. Very confiding feeding ; Mistle Thrush - 2 ; Nuthatch - 2 - seen together ; LONG-TAILED SKUA - 1 - Fields at the side of Clough Lane ; LONG-TAILED SKUA - 1 ; 319 - 1 ; LONG-TAILED SKUA - 1 - present to dusk, ranging across several fields to feed ; LONG-TAILED SKUA - 1 - ranging over fields ; LONG-TAILED SKUA - 1 - incoming ; 319 - 1
  • Millhouses garden: Wren - 1
  • Norton garden: Siskin - 2 - 1m + 1f feeding on sunflower hearts ; Brambling - 3 - 2m + 1f feeding on sunflower hearts most days for the last two weeks ; Stock Dove - 2 - Regularly seen in garden
  • Norwood Allotments: Whooper Swan - 58 - over NW at18:23 ; Redwing - 3 - at dusk
  • Owlthorpe: Chiffchaff - 1 - heard on Owlthorpe Fields
  • Peat Pits: Whooper Swan - 58 - flew over north west calling at dusk
  • Riggs HighRoad: Skylark - 1 - Heard only.
  • Rivelin Valley: 319 - 1
  • Smithy Wood: 319 - 5 - Circling together before 2 drifted back towards Chapeltown Park area.
