  • Blackburn Meadows NR: Canada Goose - 2 ; 320 - 6 ; Mallard - 4 ; Snipe - 15+ ; Goosander - 2 - Pair flew west along the canal ; Lesser Redpoll - 30+ ; Chiffchaff - 1 - Singing ; Reed Bunting - 2 - Singing males
  • Bolsterstone: Curlew - 2 - in stubble field near Walders Low.
  • Canklow Woods: Common Buzzard - 2 - soaring together @ 1420hrs
  • Carterknowle: Waxwing - 10 - SW at 17.00
  • Endcliffe Park: Kingfisher - 1 - Male, caught & ate fish
  • Forge Dam: 320 - 2 - Male & female
  • Greave*s Piece: Great Grey Shrike - 1 - Showing in trees on side looking toward Chesterfield.
  • Halfway: Waxwing - 15+ - in trees at 13:15 seen from main road (B6058) going past Morrisons. Have since moved elsewhere.
  • Hallam Moor: Stonechat - 2m&f
  • Hangingwater garden: Siskin - 1 - m on feeders
  • Middleton Moor: Shelduck - 1 ; 320 - 5 ; Wigeon - 1 ; Curlew - 13
  • Mount Darnall: Peregrine - 1 - 1 adult probably female sat on the old air port for 30 miss front 15.40 ; Lapwing - 8 - On old airport ; Ringed Plover - 6 ; Iceland Gull - 16,50 - One 2nd winter through the towards Orgreave.
  • Norton Hammer: Waxwing - c.20 - c.W (blustered in wind) at c.17.15. Recent records are suggesting a roost somewhere in the outer Sheaf Valley (west of Ecclesall Woods) ; Grey Wagtail - 1 - singing
  • Orgreave Lakes: Goldeneye - 13 - 4m ; Wigeon - 33
  • Pit-house West: Water Rail - 2 - No sign of Bittern at dusk. ; Yellowhammer - 1 - snging
  • R Don, Effingham St: Iceland Gull - 1 - this morning ; Black-headed Gull - c150 ; Kingfisher - 1 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Iceland Gull - 1 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 2
  • Ramsley Moor: Reed Bunting - 2
  • Redmires Top Res: Curlew - 107 - Roosting on dam wall and spooked into the air ; Oystercatcher - 1
  • Rother Valley CP: Grey Heron - 3 - Involved in activity around at least two nests on the island in the main lake. ; Oystercatcher - 3 - Flying up and down the main lake calling.

  • Totley & Dore: Common Buzzard - 6 - circling very high in bright sunshine at 11:00. Drifted over from Blackamoor direction towards the city then back again.
  • Ulley: BEAN GOOSE (Tundra/Taiga) - 1 - Tundra Bean Goose still on Ulley ; Greylag Goose - 91 ; Pink-footed Goose - 1
  • Ulley Res: BEAN GOOSE (Tundra/Taiga) - 1 - Tundra Bean still present on S arm wit Greylags ; Greylag Goose - 91 ; Pink-footed Goose - 1 - still with greylags ; Willow Tit - 1 - singing in E arm
  • Upper Midhope: Oystercatcher - 6 ; Oystercatcher - 6 - Over E
  • Windy Corner: Goshawk - 1 - 1 over Cow Hey ; 319 - 1 - Over Cow Hey

Friday 3rd March 2017

  • Aldwarke: Cormorant - 10 - max on pylons by 0920hrs ; Mute Swan - 21 - (inc 7 2cy) SW between 0710-0833hrs (no signs of any Whoopers from here!) ; Canada Goose - 2 - W/NW @ 0700hrs
  • Aldwarke; Tata Steel: Peregrine - 1 - adult (probably m), sat on rooftop for long periods 7:40 - 9:50 hrs at least
  • Attercliffe: Iceland Gull - 1 ; Iceland Gull - 1 ; Iceland Gull - 1
  • Gleadless Valley: Redwing - 70-80 - Roost in tree's next to block of flats, Callow Place. Been here for over 2 weeks
