Frequent sightings over playing field and Stubbin Pit Site ; Oystercatcher - 1 - W @ 08.50 ; Swift - 327 - SW in 2 hrs (10.45-12.45) ; House Martin - 21 - SW in 2 hrs ; Swallow - 17 - SW in 2 hrs

  • Treeton Dyke: Common Tern - 2 ; Kingfisher - 1 - on pond.

Friday 28th July 2017

  • Big Moor: Whinchat - 3+ - all juveniles ; Swift - 6+ ; Swallow - 3+ ; Meadow Pipit - 6+
  • Bramley: Kestrel - 1 - Hovering over Bramley Sunnyside School field @ 7.00AM.
  • R Don, Effingham St: Mallard - 1 - female with small chicks, down to 5 today ; Canada Goose - 3 - first here for a while. ; 324 - 1 - Yellow Bellied Slider/Terrapin basking on rocks.
  • R Don, Norfolk Bridge: Yellow-legged Gull - 1 - adult ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - c20 - inc one juv
  • Rawmarsh:Haugh Rd: Black-headed Gull - 290 - on playing field @ 13.30 ; Common Gull - 1 - adult on playing field @ 13.30
  • Shirebrook Valley: Willow Tit - 01-Feb
  • Treeton Dyke: Common Tern - 3 - feeding at 08.40. ; Green Woodpecker - 1 - calling on tip.

Thursday 27th July 2017

  • Green Moor: Little Owl - 3 - Adult and two playful owlets ; Little Owl - 3 - photo
  • Lodge Moor garden: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - regular visitor to the sunflower heart feeders for the last couple of weeks.
  • Orgreave Lakes: BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 1 - Still present on the main lake early morning. ; Little Egret - 3
  • Ravenfield: Barn Owl - 1 - Perched on fence post in horse paddock @ 19.00. ; Tawny Owl - 3 - 2 adults calling Juv @ roadside calling back approx. 21.30
  • Rawmarsh: Swift - present - moderate movement to SW/S/SE in late afternoon, inc a party of c50 SE @ 1725hrs
  • Rawmarsh:Haugh Rd: 321 - 1 - W @ 09.50 ; Cormorant - 5 - N @ 08.57 ; Mallard - 3 - E ; 319 - 2 - W @ 13.15 ; Kestrel - 4 - Family group ; Hobby - 1 - circled over playing field @ 14.05 before pursuing Swifts low over playing field. ; Greenshank - 1 - SW calling @ 10.07. Appeared to drop down to Greasborough Dam ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 4 - S ; Yellow Wagtail - 1 - SW @ 12.56. First of autumn! ; Siskin - 2 - SW @ 09.40. First of autumn!
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Cormorant - 2 - diving and appeared to be feeding at 06.55 - perhaps there are finally some fish in the lagoon?

  • Barbrook Valley: Grasshopper Warbler - 1 - reeling at edge of bracken bank. ; Whinchat - 5+ - family party, at least 2 juvs, plus separate fem.
  • Catcliffe Flash: Canada Goose - 4 - flew south at 13:20 ; Gadwall - 15+ ; Pochard - 9 ; Tufted Duck - 3+ ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Little Grebe - 4+ ; Kingfisher - 1 ; Moorhen - 5+ ; Coot - c50 ; Sand Martin - 12+ ; House Martin - 1
  • Green Moor: Little Owl - 2
  • Kimberworth: Chiffchaff - 1 - catching insects in garden sycamore tree ; Long-tailed Tit - 8 - All juveniles on garden bird feeder. ; Bullfinch - 2 - Resident male and female made several visits to garden seed feeder throughout the day
  • Norton Lees: Whitethroat - 1
  • Orgreave Lakes: BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 1 - on big lake early morning ; Little Egret - 2 - juvs on small lake before flying off down river
  • Peat Pits: Golden Plover - 63 - in recently ploughed field. ; Lapwing - 7 - with G.P's.
  • Rawmarsh:Haugh Rd: Greylag Goose - 23 - NE @ 19.10
  • Rotherham Centre: Swift - 5 - over, drifting slowly SW @ 1610hrs
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Cormorant - 1 - 'down' at 07.25 then north
  • Thrybergh: Swift - 100+ - Flock of over 100 birds high under cloud base ! Feeding? In heavy rain, working their way .in North Westerly direction.

  • Banner Cross Hall: Dunlin - 1 - surprise record during bat survey; 1 heard over at 03.58 ; Tawny Owl - 02-Mar - 2-3 heard; adult call, xylophone song, juvenile begging call
