Lapwing - 5 - 2 flew to distract low flying LBBG suggesting active nests in area. ; Gadwall - 2 ; Yellow Wagtail - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - 2 - Also targeted LBBG to fend away? ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 - Adult - seen off by Lapwings and BHG ; Canada Goose - 2 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 ; Linnet - 1 - in suitable nesting habitat
Chee Dale:
Dipper - 5 - 3 different individuals on river, plus adult with well grown juvenile
Darnall:
Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 - on nest on roof at Davy Business Park
Ecclesfield:
Ring-necked Parakeet - 1 - in garden, Cross Hill, calling
Handsworth garden:
Great Tit - 2 - feeding chicks in nest box
Millhouses:
Swift - 2 - Two over Marriott Road occasionally screaming. First of the year and a sad relic of a once thriving ‘colony’.
Millhouses Park:
Treecreeper - 2+ - Pair carrying food to nest site and apparently attempting to encourage young to emerge from the nest.
Orgreave Lakes:
Redshank - 4 - 2 newly hatched chicks with 2 adults. ; Oystercatcher - 9 - Group of 4 adults + pair with 3 chicks. ; Shoveler - 2 - Pair
R Sheaf, Duchess Rd:
Sand Martin - 5+ - Entering at least three, possibly five, and probably more different nest holes in building foundations beside river. ; Moorhen - 6 - Pair with four chicks. As I arrived a parent and the four chicks left the nest leaving two eggs in the nest. Both parents then supervisd and fed the youngsters. ; 320 - 1 - lone male still present; one in same place last week

Common Sandpiper - 1 ; Cuckoo - 1 - calling Rivelin Rocks

Great Crested Grebe - 2 - becoming more regular at site ; Cetti's Warbler - 1 - singing ; Reed Warbler - 4 - like most common warblers, numbers seem down at site this year ; House Martin - 5 ; Yellowhammer - 1 - singing in Hollings Lane meadows
Wharncliffe Chase:
Willow Warbler - 15+ - Singing, some from woodland fringe. ; Skylark - 12 - Some singing, hopefully lots on nests now. ; Linnet - 25+ ; Meadow Pipit - 25+ - Some tending nests ; Reed Bunting - 5 - Singing males ; Tree Pipit - 16 - 10+ singing ; Stonechat - 3 - Separate males, one food carrying to nest ; Red-legged Partridge - 4 - 2 pairs, one pair aggressively copulating ; Chiffchaff - 1 ; Song Thrush - 5 - Singing ; Kestrel - 1 ; Yellowhammer - 1 ; Redstart - 2 - Singing males ; Stock Dove - 3 ; Lapwing - 1 ; Swallow - 3 - One visiting potential nest site at Wharncliffe Lodge ; Raven - 3 - Pair appearing to copulate on pylon with another showing juvenile behaviour ; Blackcap - 1 ; Cuckoo - 0 - Surprisingly none heard ; Green Woodpecker - 0 - Not heard/seen for a while, previously a regular sighting.
