  • Firsby Res: Grey Partridge - 2 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - Alarm calling and mobbing squirrel. ; Mistle Thrush - 3 - Over together. ; Song Thrush - 1 - Singing. ; Treecreeper - 2+ - Calling ; Goldcrest - 4 ; Blue Tit - 5+ - Adult with recently hatched chicks in nest in wall. ; Great Tit - 1 - Carrying food to nest ; Long-tailed Tit - 15+ - 2 flocks 7-8. ; Reed Warbler - 1 - Male. ; Chaffinch - 6+ - All singing males. ; Skylark - 1 ; Linnet - 2 - Over. ; Goldfinch - 3+ - On teasels. ; Sedge Warbler - 2 - Singing in sluice reedbed. ; Reed Warbler - 1 - Calling from stream end reed bed. ; Chiffchaff - 2 ; Whitethroat - 4 ; Willow Warbler - 3 ; Robin - 3 ; Wren - 2 ; Dunnock - 1 ; Swift - 10+ ; Blackcap - 6+ - All Males. ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - Male

  • Hathersage: Swift - 20+ - Low over houses ; Cuckoo - 1 ; Redstart - 1 - Singing Male by River Derwent ; Mandarin - 2 - Pair with 5+ chicks
  • Longshaw: Cuckoo - 1 - showing very well intermittently ; Tawny Owl - 1 ; Tree Pipit - 1 ; Curlew - 2 ; Reed Bunting - 1 ; Kestrel - 2
  • Middleton Moor: Common Sandpiper - 2 ; Dunlin - 1 ; Oystercatcher - 2 ; Shelduck - 2 ; Sedge Warbler - 1 - a displaying male ; 320 - 1 - a male ; Lapwing - 6 - 2 fledged broods of 3 & 3
  • Moorland Fringe: Nightjar - 1 - churring
  • Nether Green: Swift - 4 - 4 birds present daily
  • Orgreave Lakes: BITTERN - 1 - 07:45 - circled south end and lost heading south towards RVCP. A bizarre addition to the patch list!!! ; Ruff - 2 - on the big lake mid-afternoon ; Ruff - 2 - 2 reeves from 14:00 ; Mute Swan - 57 ; Grey Partridge - 2 - On tip ; Dunlin - 1 ; Ringed Plover - 4 ; BITTERN - 1 - Circled high over southern end of site then appeared to head south at 07:45.
  • R Derwent, Baslow: Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Mandarin - 4 - 2 pairs ; Common Sandpiper - 1
  • Redmires: Cuckoo - 1 - calling until dark ; Snipe - 1 - drumming from Fairthorne Clough area at dusk ; Woodcock - 1+ - roding over Fairthorn Plantation ; Tawny Owl - 1+ - female calling from Fairthorn Plantation
  • Rivelin Dams: Common Sandpiper - 1 ; Tufted Duck - 6 - 3 prs ; Mallard - 3 ; Canada Goose - 3 ; Cormorant - 1 ; Mistle Thrush - 1 - singing ; Cuckoo - 1 - calling from Ronskley area
  • Roper Hill: Swallow - 3+
  • Ruskin Park: Swift - 20+ - hawking for insects over tree-tops.
  • Silverwood Lagoon: BITTERN - 1 - went up from western reedbed at 06.35 and flew SW. Presumably same as Orgreave bird. ; Mute Swan - 2+ - resident pair with 7 cygnets ; Grasshopper Warbler - 1 - reeling
  • Stubley Hollow: Little Owl - 1 ; Swallow - 6 ; Chiffchaff - 6 ; Blackcap - 3 ; Whitethroat - 4
  • Thrybergh: Turtle Dove - 1 - Under bird feeders picking up spilt seed with Collared Doves, flew towards Silverwood.at 14:30
  • Thrybergh CP: Great Crested Grebe - 4 - ad.+1chick showing ; Mute Swan - 10 ; Gadwall - 2 - mf ; Tufted Duck - 4 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - s then back n ; Kestrel - 1 ; Grey Partridge - 1 ; Coot - 4+ - 2pr with young ; Herring Gull - 2 - pr taking to tern raft ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 - ad ne ; Swift - 20+ ; Song Thrush - 3 - singing ; Blackcap - 5 - singing ; Whitethroat - 6 - 4 singing ; Reed Warbler - 2 - singing ; Willow Warbler - 4 - singing ; Chiffchaff - 8 - singing
  • Walkley garden: Starling - 20+ - Fledged starlings being fed by a few adults constantly during last 4 days. ; Great Tit - 2 - Adults visiting nest in garden shed to feed caterpillars to young. Bentley Road.
  • Wharncliffe Heath NR: Pied Flycatcher - 12+ - 11 confirmed singing males and territories, another bird alarming ; Common Buzzard - 1 ; Linnet - 2+ - Singing
