  • Sheffield & Tinsley Canal: Canada Goose - 6 - Two adults with 4 well-developed goslings.

Tuesday 25th June 2019

  • Attercliffe: Peregrine - 1 - ad male on Bernard Road incinerator sheltering from rain, seemed to be present most of day.
  • Bradway: Swallow - 1 - male on wires at regular site
  • Calver: Swift - 1 - adult entering nest site by Calver cross-roads
  • Handsworth garden: Bullfinch - 8 - 4 males,3 females 1 young female on sunflower feeders [ 1pair / 2 pairs ] each day.
  • Howden Res: Mandarin - 10 - Female with 9 newly hatched young by dam wall in res.
  • Longshaw: Pied Flycatcher - 2 ; Redstart - 2 ; Spotted Flycatcher - 2
  • Middleton Moor: Redshank - 1 ; Shelduck - 1
  • R Don, Rotherham Centre; Chantry Bridge: Sand Martin - ?? - any remaining active nests in main colony inundated after persistent rain
  • R Don, Stevenson Rd: Pied Wagtail - 3 - 2 juvs ; Black-headed Gull - 15 - inc one juvenile.
  • Walkley garden: Collared Dove - 3 - 2 adult and 1 juvenile preening in plum tree.
  • Wharncliffe Side: Stock Dove - 2 - feeding on seed in observers garden ; Collared Dove - 4 - 2 adults and 2 juveniles feeding on seed in observers garden ; Woodpigeon - 3 - 2 adults, 1 juvenile in observers garden ; Robin - 6 - 2 adults, 4 juveniles fledged from nest in observers garden

Monday 24th June 2019

  • Canklow Woods: Lesser Whitethroat - 1 - 1 singing
  • Cowell Flat: Snipe - 3+ - drumming and chipping after dark
  • Dore, Newfield Crescent: Raven - 1 - Over, mobbed by 3 crows ; 324 - 1 - Painted lady butterfly
  • Howden Res: Common Sandpiper - 4 - inc 1 juv fly catching around dead sheep .
  • Jordanthorpe: Barn Owl - 1 - On old football pitches
  • Meersbrook Park: Swift - c24
  • Moorland Fringe: Nightjar - 5+ - at least 5 churring males at 5 different sites.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Little Egret - 3 ; Pochard - 17 ; Little Egret - 3 ; Little Ringed Plover - 1 - Fledged juvenile
  • Pitsmoor: Long-tailed Tit - 21 - single group feeding in roadside trees.
  • R Don, Norfolk Bridge: Swift - 10 - feeding overhead, most with bulging full crops. ; Black-headed Gull - c30 - inc first fresh juvenile sen
  • R Don, Stevenson Rd: Mediterranean Gull - 1 - breeding plumaged adult for 5 mins at 13:45 before leaving NE with BHG's
  • Redmires conduit: 324 - 1 - first Large Skipper of the season
  • Redmires Middle Res: Oystercatcher - 3 - 2 adult and one juvenile
  • Rotherham Centre: Cormorant - 3 - 2 @ 1220hrs; 1 @ 1528hrs, all NE ; Mute Swan - 2 - SW @ 1317hrs
  • Wadsley Common garden: Long-tailed Tit - 8 - Family party through garden. ; Collared Dove - 4 - 2 young from nest in hedge have fledged.
