  • Birley Edge: Barn Owl - 1 - Quartering field above Birley Edge
  • Blacka Moor: Wood Warbler - 2 - Singing repeatedly
  • Canyon Pond, Treeton: Peregrine - 1 - Adult flew NE with prey
  • Ecclesall: Swift - 15 - circling in early evening

  • Ewden Height: Spotted Flycatcher - 2 ; Curlew - c25 - Several alarming with presumed young nearby although only one juv actually seen. ; Snipe - 2 ; Cuckoo - 2 - Singing ; Meadow Pipit - 15+ - At least 4 carrying food to nests. ; Swift - 10 ; Raven - 1 ; Linnet - c30 ; Starling - 6 - Juveniles ; Goldfinch - 10 ; Skylark - 6
  • Longshaw: Redstart - 3 - Two nest sites near to Wooden Pole on edge of Longshaw ; Cuckoo - 2 - Calling in woods over Padley Gorge, and on Froggatt Edge ; Kestrel - 1
  • Midhope Res: Spotted Flycatcher - 2 - Singing ; Song Thrush - 3 - Singing ; Willow Warbler - 15+ ; Tufted Duck - 2
  • Moorland Fringe: Nightjar - 3 - Pair seen plus another male heard from 9.22 onwards. ; Long-eared Owl - 1
  • Moss Valley, upper: Barn Owl - 1
  • Nether Green: Swift - 7 - low flying feeding
  • Orgreave Lakes: Shelduck - 1 - flew through south ; Pochard - 5 - 4 drakes 1 fem ; BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 1
  • Peat Pits: Lapwing - 8 - well developed chicks seen in surrounding sheep fields , broods of 3, 2 and 1. Also 2 adults sitting on nests in recently seeded field.
  • Poolsbrook CP: Canada Goose - 9 - 3 prs with 11 young ; Greylag Goose - 6 - inc pair with 3 young ; Goose sp - 1 - Barnacle x Canada ; Great Crested Grebe - 4 - inc one pair with a single young ; Grey Heron - 2 ; Lesser Whitethroat - 2 - male singing + another silent bird in thick hedgerow
  • Poolsbrook Marsh: Common Buzzard - 1 ; Water Rail - 1 - Calling from reedbed ; Reed Warbler - 16 - 12 singing ; Sedge Warbler - 4 - Singing male + ad feeding two young ; Cetti's Warbler - 1 - Singing ; Whitethroat - 3 - Singing + ad carrying food ; Garden Warbler - 1 - Singing ; Blackcap - 2 - Singing ; Green Woodpecker - 2 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - calling ; Reed Bunting - 4 - Singing
  • R Don, Effingham St: Yellow-legged Gull - 1 - 3cy on weir again ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - c30 ; Herring Gull - c15 ; Canada Goose - 2 - female still incubating, left nest briefly, just one egg visible.

  • Rawmarsh; Rockcliffe Road: Common Buzzard - 1 - high to W @ 1020hrs ; Kestrel - 1 - male, hovering low over neighbouring garden briefly @ 1030hrs ; House Martin - 03-Apr - feeding over
  • Rivelin Valley: Tawny Owl - 1 - juvenile making begging calls in woodland off Rivelin Valley Road

  • Silverwood Lagoon: Mute Swan - 2+ - pair and 6 cygnets ; Moorhen - 2+ - pair feeding young ; Coot - 12+ - including one pair with downy young ; Little Grebe - 8+ - one pair feeding young, at least three other pairs on territory in roadbeds ; Cormorant - 2 - 'down' briefly early morning ; Tufted Duck - 8 ; Black-headed Gull - 4 ; Green Woodpecker - 1 - yaffling in western paddocks ; Reed Warbler - 4 - singing ; Sedge Warbler - 1 - singing ; Song Thrush - 1 - singing ; Long-tailed Tit - 14+ - two family parties ; Linnet - 15+ - several pairs breeding around pit top ; Swift - 3 ; Swallow - 2 ; House Martin - c.15 - over Woodlaithes end of pit top ; Kestrel - 1
