Wednesday 5th October 2022

  • High Street Ecclesfield: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Hunting flying north.
  • Norfolk Park: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Flying through my garden and perched on fence yesterday and today. ; Ring-necked Parakeet - 2+ - 2 - 4 birds seen or heard around here several times a week for the past month.
  • R Derwent, Leadmill: Dipper - 1 ; 319 - 1 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Mandarin - 6
  • Rawmarsh; High Street: Mistle Thrush - 1 - on tip of Methodist Church spire around 1500hrs; locally scarce in recent months
  • Sheffield Centre: Mistle Thrush - 2 - flying between berry trees in Duchess Rd Open Space. This species resident here.
  • Thrybergh CP: Mute Swan - 56 ; Cormorant - 5 ; Lapwing - 124 ; Long-tailed Tit - 18 ; Blue Tit - 12 ; Great Tit - 8 ; Goldcrest - 3 ; Blackbird - 12 ; Song Thrush - 2 ; Coot - 31 ; Moorhen - 10

  • Blacka Moor: 324 - 3+ - 3+ rutting Red Deer stags calling
  • Dore: Tawny Owl - 1 - Calling, Blackamoor Crescent. A constant presence here
  • Endcliffe Park: Kingfisher - 1 - on lower pond at 07:05
  • Ewden Height: Chaffinch - 11 - flew south 07:00-08:15 ; Meadow Pipit - 15 - South ; Pied Wagtail - 16 - South ; Redwing - 5 ; Goldfinch - 5 - South ; Song Thrush - 1 - Flighty - assumed migrant ; Kestrel - 2 - One giving submissive calls, assumed juv ; Siskin - 2 ; Linnet - 5 ; Snipe - 2 - West ; Goldcrest - 2 ; 319 - 1

Monday 3rd October 2022

  • Barlow: Red-legged Partridge - 3 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 ; Mistle Thrush - 7 - 7 in one tree ; Pheasant - 1
  • Bradfield Moor: Redwing - 5 - 5 caught and ringed
  • Canklow Woods: Chiffchaff - 1
  • Cinder Hills: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - calling from dead tree ; Robin - 1 - singing ; Blackbird - 1+ - calls ; Goldfinch - 1+
  • Ecclesfield Common: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Circling over Morrisons.
  • Ecclesfield Park: Grey Wagtail - 1 - Flew from New drainage channel.
  • Elsecar: Raven - 1 - on pylon harried by Carrion Crows then flew NE over res
  • Firsby Res: Kingfisher - 1M ; 320 - 1M ; Mistle Thrush - 5 ; Bullfinch - 2 ; 319 - 2 ; Grey Wagtail - 2 ; Jay - 1 ; Sparrowhawk - 1
  • Kimberworth Park: Nuthatch - 1 - 'bubbling' song from Strafford Road ; Magpie - 11 - feeding on Grey Hill ; Woodpigeon - 1+ - on Grey Hill ; Skylark - 4 - S over Grey Hill
  • Meadowhall: Raven - 1 - over from N & left SE towards Brinsworth @ 1255hrs
  • Middle Common: Kestrel - 1 - hovering over cover crop, later onto tel. pole ; Skylark - 1+ - singing, up from cover crop
  • Midhope Res: Black-headed Gull - c4000-4500 - Large swarms leaving overnight roost, majority gone by 07:30. ; Pied Wagtail - 9 - incl 5 south ; Kestrel - 2 ; Tufted Duck - 9 ; Linnet - 45 ; 320 - 29 ; Meadow Pipit - 23 - south ; Chaffinch - 30 - south ; Stock Dove - 36 max - Interesting movement of small groups east 07:00-08:00 totalling 29 then group of 36 seen heading north which have included some of original birds. ; Redwing - 4 ; Cormorant - 2 - south east ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 10+ ; Great Black-backed Gull - 1 - Juvenile east with 5 adult LBBG’s. ; Grey Wagtail - 5 - incl 2 south
