  • Redmires Res: Lapwing - 20 ; Kestrel - 3 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 ; Common Buzzard - 1 - juv still begging for food in Redmires Plantation ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 155 - mostly in fields ; Herring Gull - 16 ; Yellow-legged Gull - 2 - with LBBs ; Black-headed Gull - 65 - in fields ; Green Woodpecker - 1 - juv feeding in heather on Roper Hill ; Meadow Pipit - 25 - c. mostly drifted E ; Blackcap - 4 ; Whitethroat - 3 ; Willow Warbler - 8 ; Chiffchaff - 3 ; Siskin - 1 - flew W - first of the autumn! ; Yellow Wagtail - 1 - flew S
  • Shepherd*s Plantation: 319 - 4 - high over wood, at least one juv calling @ 15:00
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Peregrine - 1 - over The Close and adjacent stubble field at 09.35, flushing feeding Feral Pigeons and upsetting the local crows
  • Sothall: Whimbrel - 1 - nocmig sound recorded over garden 0345hr ; Common Sandpiper - 1 - nocmig sound recorded over garden 0510hr ; Green Sandpiper - 1 - nocmig sound recorded over garden 2130hr
  • Troway: Kestrel - 1 ; Jay - 1 ; 319 - 1
  • Upper Ewden: WHITE-TAILED EAGLE - 1 - One short filght, then sat on moor for 3 hours still there 19:20. Mobbed late on by imm Marsh Harrier, and had a standoff with 2 sheep. ; Marsh Harrier - 1+ - imm in evening Flint Hill - Upper Commons, mobbing Eagle at 19:15. Second bird briefly, looked like a (3cy+) male
  • Walker Edge//Broomhead: Linnet - 12 - flock by farm ; Swallow - 4 - flying over field with sheep in insect catching ; Goldfinch - 5 - with linnets ; Kestrel - 1 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 3 ; Wheatear - 1 - female on field wall by crossroads ; Carrion Crow - 4

Saturday 21st August 2021

  • Ecclesall: Raven - 2 - flew N calling late-afternoon
  • Graves Park: Tufted Duck - 1 - one chick, adult also present.
  • Middleton Moor: Shelduck - 1 - fledged juv ; 320 - 29 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 8 ; Stonechat - 3 - juvs
  • Midhope Res: Kestrel - 1 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 ; 319 - 1 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 70+ - More flying in/over as I left 17.30 ; Willow Warbler - 1 ; Swallow - 5+ ; Meadow Pipit - 5 - north ; Pied Wagtail - 11 ; Jay - 1+ ; 320 - 9 ; Grey Wagtail - 2 ; Tufted Duck - 5 ; Little Grebe - 17 ; Lapwing - 1 ; Common Sandpiper - 3
  • Midhopestones: House Martin - c300 - In between showers 16:00
  • Orgreave Lakes: Spotted Redshank - 1 - picked up c08:45 - still present at 09:40 but flushed by dog walker and left high WNW at 10:26 ; Swift - 2 ; Yellow Wagtail - 2 - W shore of main lake ; Ringed Plover - 1 - imm on N shore main lake flushed by dog walkers ; Spotted Redshank - 1 - On east shore at 08:40
  • Rawmarsh; Rockcliffe Road: Hobby - 1 - S, low & fast @ 0712hrs
  • Redmires Middle Res: Common Tern - 1 - Found in with gulls that had been flushed by dogs ; Merlin - 1 - Over.heading south
  • Redmires Res: Grasshopper Warbler - 1 - still reeling ; Meadow Pipit - 6 - flew SW - first movt ; Meadow Pipit - 6 - flew SW - first movt ; Swallow - 6 - flew SW ; Common Buzzard - 2 - sat on post - juv begging for food ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 80 - c. ; Yellow-legged Gull - 1 - ad with LBBs ; Black-headed Gull - 45 - in fields ; Moorhen - 1
  • Redmires Top Res: Common Scoter - 2 - M&F departed west
  • Rotherham Centre: 319 - 4 - Over NY stadium during game 13.55
  • Sothall: Snipe - 1 - nocmig sound recorded over garden 0334hr
  • Wadsley Common garden: Swallow - 5+ - At least 3 young in nest in outbuilding.

Friday 20th August 2021

  • 70 Acre Hill: Yellow Wagtail - 1 - over S/SSW calling ; Carrion Crow - c.50 ; Linnet - 6
  • Aldwarke: Cormorant - 1 - on pylon
  • Aldwarke; Liberty Steel: Peregrine - 1 - adult on roof for 20mins before leaving to SE
  • Aughton: Hobby - 1 - Flew towards Ulley Reservoir.
  • Catcliffe Flash: Shelduck - 1 - Single in the middle of the flash
  • Fulwood: Swift - 1 - Over W
  • Middleton Moor: 320 - 5 ; Shelduck - 2 - Juvs ; Stonechat - 5 ; Redstart - 2 ; Wheatear - 1
  • Norwood Allotments: Black-headed Gull - c70 - hawking for flying ants which were out today ; Starling - c40 - hawking for flying ants ; Swift - c10 - flying very high and made difficult to count mingled with around 20 probable house martins also very high. ; 319 - 4 - presumably family group overhead very vocal
  • Orgreave Lakes: Cormorant - 6 - 6 birds on island drying off. ; Grey Wagtail - 4 - 4 birds feeding on river just below the weir. ; Dunlin - 1 ; Yellow Wagtail - 11 ; Common Gull - 1 - Ad
  • Parkgate: House Martin - 40-50 - feeding over ; Swift - 3 - with HM flock
