  • Orgreave Lakes: Goldeneye - 3 - 2 males ; Goosander - 39 - Lots of display, one pair copulating ; Great Black-backed Gull - 52 - Pre roost ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 6 ; Herring Gull - 171 ; Grey Partridge - 1 - Calling at dusk.
  • Padley: Bullfinch - 1 - male
  • R Derwent, Grindleford: Cormorant - 1 - flying over
  • Roper Hill: Barn Owl - 1 - at dusk

  • Totley Moor: SNOW BUNTING - 1 - Feeding in front of ventilation shaft at approx 1400 hrs . Very confiding ; SNOW BUNTING - 1 - showing very well late afternoon
  • Walkley garden: Blackcap - 1 - Single female bathing ; Redwing - 1 - Single daily since 3rd Jan in cotoneaster

  • Centenary Riverside: Mute Swan - 2 - River ; Mallard - 4 ; 320 - 1 ; Moorhen - 1 ; Cormorant - 2 - 1 fishing, 1 over ; Mistle Thrush - 1 ; Redwing - 8 ; Goldfinch - 09-Oct ; Bullfinch - 2 - Pair calling.
  • Ecclesall: Blackcap - 1 - male in Ansell Road garden ; Woodpigeon - 19 - in Ansell Road garden - record count here!
  • Endcliffe Park: Kingfisher - 1 - flying over upper lake at 15:40 ; Mandarin - 5 - 3m, 2f on top pond
  • Green Moor: House Sparrow - 35+ - A good count here on our lawn for seed
  • Moorhall: Siskin - 30 ; Kestrel - 2 ; Peregrine - 1 ; Pink-footed Goose - 108
  • Norton Lees: Pink-footed Goose - 90 - c90 SW @ 13:50
  • Orgreave Lakes: Pink-footed Goose - 250 - c100 NW at 13:35, c150 NW at 13:45
  • Porter Brook, Hangingwater: Dipper - 1 - Singing male on possible territory
  • R Don, Effingham St: 320 - 1 - Male ; Herring Gull - c40 ; Pink-footed Goose - c250 - 100 at 13:40 going NW and another C250 at 13.50

  • Rawmarsh; High Street: Mistle Thrush - 2 - flew towards Methodist Church
  • Rawmarsh; Rockcliffe Road: Blue Tit - 1pr - investigating/entering nestbox again
  • Silver Wood: Pink-footed Goose - c.150 - WNW at 13.20
  • Totley Moor: SNOW BUNTING - 1 - Sheltering (like observers) and feeding behind ventilation shaft during driving snow!
  • Wharncliffe Side: Brambling - 2 - male and female feeding on sunflower hearts in observers garden
  • Wire Mill Dam: Mandarin - 6 - 6m ; Mallard - 50 ; Mandarin - 10+

Thursday 6th January 2022

  • Bannerdale Road: Blackcap - 1 - Male eating berries in garden.
  • Dore: Grey Wagtail - 1 - feeding on lawn in observer’s garden
  • Ecclesall: Pink-footed Goose - 22 - flew low south over Ansell Road at 10:59 hrs ; Lapwing - 1 - flew E over Ansell Road during a snow shower at 13:34 hrs - garden tick!
  • Firsby Res: Tawny Owl - 2 - Pair calling from willows before dawn. ; Red-legged Partridge - 1+ - Calling from stubble field. ; Carrion Crow - 3 - Over calling.
  • Fulwood: Brambling - 3 - m and 2f at feeders ; Greenfinch - 11 ; Goldfinch - 9 ; Chaffinch - 9 ; Siskin - 1 - male ; Blue Tit - 5
  • Green Moor: Yellowhammer - 2
  • Greystones garden: Blackcap - 1 - Male in observer's garden ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - Female surrounded by Woodpigeons & a Collared Dove - never bothered with any. ; Song Thrush - 1
  • Harthill Res: Little Egret - 1
  • Meersbrook Park: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - drumming ; Nuthatch - 1
  • Morehall Res: Little Egret - 1 - Single bird below dam wall sitting in spruce trees and using stream.
  • Moss road, Totley: Willow Tit - 3 - 2 unringed and color ringed orange/yellow ; Greenfinch - 9 - At feeders ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1
  • Norton Lees: Chaffinch - 1 - Male feeding in observer’s garden- not seen here very often.
  • R Sheaf, Heeley: Mandarin - 5 - 3m, 2f - Broadfield Road area
  • Ravenfield Church: Tawny Owl - 1 - Calling in woodland before dawn.
  • Redmires Plantation: Green Woodpecker - 1
  • Redmires Res: Greylag Goose - 60 - c. in fields ; Canada Goose - 30 - c. ; Mallard - 100 - c. mostly on Middle Res ; 320 - 25 - on Middle Res - good count here these days ; Fieldfare - 50 - c. flew S ; Kestrel - 1 ; Lapwing - 60 - c. on Middle Res
