  • Redmires Top Res: Cuckoo - 1 - Heard calling only. ; Lesser Redpoll - Pair - Pair in Rowan trees near road end. ; Oystercatcher - Pair ; Common Sandpiper - 1 - Joined by Curlew on remaining water's edge.
  • RVCP: Lesser Whitethroat - 2 ; Whitethroat - 4 ; Blackcap - 3 - All along River Rother embankment
  • Stubley Hollow: Cuckoo - 1 - singing ; Swallow - 12 ; Blackcap - 2 ; Whitethroat -2 ; Chiffchaff - 3 ; Willow Warbler - 1 ; Little Owl - 1
  • Thrybergh CP: Little Ringed Plover - 1 ; Common Sandpiper - 2 ; Little Owl - 1 - call from hedgerow ; Yellow Wagtail - 1 ; Reed Warbler - 2 - singing ; Sedge Warbler - 2
  • Wadsley: Swift - 2 ; Garden Warbler - 1 - 1 singing an Stour Lane footpath ; Greenfinch - 4 - 2 pairs on stour lane ; Bullfinch - 2 - Pair at top of Stour lane path ; Swift - 1 - 1 heard over Ganton Road/Carlton Road ; Swift - 2 - Pair screaming over Carlton Road ; House Martin - 1 - Still only one. Seen daily since 3rd.
  • Walkley: Swift - 2 - Over Bentley Road area.
  • Wyming Brook: Wood Warbler - 3

Monday 7th May 2018

  • Barbrook Plantation: Pied Flycatcher - 1 ; Garden Warbler - 1 ; Redstart - 1 ; Willow Warbler - 3 ; Cuckoo - 1 - Heard only. To be fair to yesterday's ravers, they'd done a very good clean-up job of the site. Almost no rubbish left behind.Compare with the devastation at Endcliffe Park at the end of a sunny day!
  • Barbrook Valley: Ring Ouzel - 2 - Pair landed briefly in tree ; Tree Pipit - 1 - Singing ; Whinchat - 3 - singing males ; Willow Warbler - 3 ; Linnet - 2
  • Bradwell Moor: Raven - 1 - Landed on wooden post
  • Bramley: Swift - 3 - Screaming low over gardens. First observation this year. ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - Large Female circling estate.
  • Canklow Woods: Common Buzzard - 4 - in the air together over Boston Castle at 10:40
  • Centenary Riverside: Kestrel - 1 ; Kingfisher - 2 - Pair, seen from bridge. Male feeding and preening. ; Goldfinch - 2 - 1 singing. ; Blackcap - 2 ; Chiffchaff - 1 ; Whitethroat - 3 ; Song Thrush - 2 - 1 singing ; Swallow - 1 - Feeding over small pond. ; Moorhen - 3 - Squabbling in Willow scrub. ; Jackdaw - 5 ; Chaffinch - 1 ; Gadwall - 2 ; Canada Goose - 5 ; Robin - 1
  • Chapeltown: Yellow Wagtail - 1 - North calling ; 319 - 1 - Mobbed by a Crow ; Swift - 1+ - Heard ; Swift - 6 ; Sparrowhawk - 1
  • Crookes: Pheasant - 1 - a female wandered up and down the gardens in front of flats on Northfield Road near the petrol station. I'’ve lived here 14 years and never seen one here before. ; Red Kite - 1 - high moving SE heading over to Broomhill.
  • Dore: Whitethroat - 1
  • Ecclesall: Swift - 1 - first back on breeding grounds
  • Froggatt: Redstart - 1 ; Garden Warbler - 2 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Canada Goose - 2 - inc female extraordinarily well camouflaged sitting on her nest
  • Hillsborough: Swift - 3
  • Hollow Meadows: Lapwing - 3 - Adult with two chicks in green field by A57
  • Holmebrook Valley Park: Greylag Goose - 3 ; Mute Swan - 3 ; Tufted Duck - 8 - 5 Males + 3 Female ; Great Crested Grebe - 2
  • Hurlfield: Tawny Owl - 1+ - 1 adult calling 16:00-21:00 on + off. at least1 chick in owl box in nearby tree.
  • Lady Canning*s Plantation: Cuckoo - 2 - Calling from different ends of the plantation.
  • Meersbrook: Swift - 1 - First of the year back over the house
  • Middleton Moor: Arctic Tern - 3 ; Oystercatcher - 1 ; Sedge Warbler - 1 ; Lapwing - 1 ; Curlew - 2
  • Norton Lees garden: Magpie - 2 adults, 4 juvs - 4 juvs, wing-stretching & a couple making short ‘flights’ from branch to branch.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Hobby - 1 - Drifted slowly south early morning ; Common Tern - 2 ; Common Sandpiper - 1 ; Redshank - 6
  • Redmires Res: Canada Goose - 5 - 2 ads + 3 young on Middle Res ; Mallard - 9 ; Kestrel - 2 - pair by Top Res
