  • Padley Wood: Wood Warbler - 2+ - at least 2 trilling, Bolehill track
  • Parkgate: Common Buzzard - 1 - soaring over @ 1500hrs
  • Redmires conduit: Grey Wagtail - 1 - gathering food from conduit ; Snipe - 2 - calling and dropping into reedy in horse fields
  • Roper Hill: Linnet - 2 - male and female
  • Surprise View: Red Kite - 1
  • Ulley Res: Song Thrush - 2 - Singing ; Blackcap - 3 ; Chaffinch - 6 - 5 singing ; Whitethroat - 2 ; Willow Warbler - 5 ; Robin - 2 - 1 singing ; Chiffchaff - 1 ; Moorhen - 6 - 2 adults, 4 juveniles. ; Mute Swan - 2 ; Great Crested Grebe - 3 - 1 North arm, 1 main lake, 1 bottom of weir. ; Pied Wagtail - 1 - Bottom of weir ; 321 - 1
  • Upper Ewden: Red Kite - 2 - one in long glide from upper Agden beck to Ewden Height, other shortly after around Margery Hill
  • Wadsley: Garden Warbler - 1 - Singing in Wadsley Churchyard.
  • Whiston: Skylark - 3 - Fields off Little Common Lane 11.30, singing. ; Whitethroat - 1 ; Linnet - 2 - Pair ; Dunnock - 1 - Singing ; Yellowhammer - 1 - Male, 13.20 ; Red-legged Partridge - 1 - Field ; 319 - 2 - 1 low over fields, 1 high over Ulley 13.35
  • Whiteley Woods: Dipper - 1 - flew downstream ; Blackcap - 1 - male - singing

Friday 18th May 2018

  • Bar Brook Valley: Stonechat - 2 - m+f ; Whinchat - 2 - m+f ; Cuckoo - 1
  • Barlow Common: Swift - 2 - at last our local Swifts are back!
  • Blacka Moor: Wood Warbler - 2 - Two trilling males
  • Canklow Woods: Lesser Whitethroat - 1 - 1 singing
  • Carr Vale Nature Reserve: Iceland Gull - 1 - juv Iceland Gull again at Carr Vale at 07.50 then flew north - per BirdNewsDerbyshire
  • Catcliffe: Greenfinch - 1 - Calling nr Whitby's car park ; Blackcap - 1 - Singing ; Whitethroat - 1 - Singing ; Goldfinch - 1 - Singing 12.20 ; Willow Warbler - 1 - Singing 12.20
  • Derwent Moors: Ring Ouzel - 1 - Sat on wall on path down from Whinstone Lee Tor
  • Handsworth: Swift - 3 - Chasing and screaming over Handsworth Grange Road
  • Hangingwater garden: Blackbird - 2 - 1 fledgling with adult male in attendance
  • Keppels Field: Whitethroat - 1 ; Willow Warbler - 1
  • Kiveton Community Woodland: Yellow Wagtail - 2 - pair in field to the the South.
  • Middlewood: Swift - 8 - One enterning eaves of Ganton Road. 5 present regularly over last week, up to 8 now. One hawking over Hillsborough park this am. ; House Martin - 1 - Still only one bird and present since 3rd May. Several pairs usually in the area although often arrive on site late May.
  • Millhouses: Swift - 0 - None seen or heard over Millhouses since a single bird on 08/05/2018. Conditions seem perfect but the sky is swiftless in this former stronghold. Looks like a similar picture over Heeley though not visited daily. ; Long-tailed Tit - 8+ - Family party in the observers garden.
  • Oughtibridge: Starling - 6+ - attending 3 separate nests under eaves with young heard calling on Birkswood drive.
  • Padley Gorge: Wood Warbler - 3 - One very visible from top of ramp, second heard in distance. Third visible at foot of ramp. ; Cuckoo - 1 - heard calling from woods ; Wood Warbler - 2 ; Redstart - 3 - 2m 1f ; Tree Pipit - 1 ; Dipper - 2 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Pied Flycatcher - 3 - all males ; Blackcap - 2 - full song ; Treecreeper - 2 ; Coal Tit - 2 ; Wood Warbler - 3 - Male courting a female & a different single trilling male in a different location
  • Pit-house West: Reed Warbler - 4 ; Chiffchaff - 3 ; Willow Warbler - 3 ; Whitethroat - 2
  • Scholes Village: Lapwing - 2 ; Black-headed Gull - c30 - feeding in recently cut fields ; Skylark - 1 - sing ; Swallow - 1 ; Woodpigeon - 1+ ; Collared Dove - 1+ ; Wren - 1+ ; Robin - 2+ ; Blackbird - 3 - sing ; Whitethroat - 1 ; Blackcap - 1 - sing ; Chiffchaff - 1 - sing ; Great Tit - 1+ ; Magpie - 4 ; Starling - 20+ ; House Sparrow - 10+ ; Tree Sparrow - 2 - @ Yewtree farm in guttering ; Chaffinch - 1+ - sing ; Yellowhammer - 1 - sing
  • Sheffield University: Peregrine - 2+ - 3 chicks ringed this morning by Sorby Breck RG (Steve Samworth) ; Peregrine - 2+ - female in close attendance during ringing ; Peregrine - 2 - another photo of the female
  • Surprise View: Whitethroat - 1 ; Stonechat - 1 - female
