  • Ewden Valley: Kestrel - 4 ; Swallow - 2+ - 1 pair with nest at the shooting lodge.
  • Kimberworth Park: 319 - 1 - over Remount Road/Grey Hill, calling
  • Meadowhall: Greenfinch - 03-May
  • Norton Lees: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Circling above top of Warminster Road
  • Orgreave Lakes: Linnet - 5 ; Lapwing - 2
  • Rawmarsh; Rockcliffe Road: Tawny Owl - 1 - female calling briefly @ 2345hrs
  • Redmires Res: Little Grebe - 2 - Ad feeding single chick on Top Res ; Common Buzzard - 3 ; Kestrel - 1 - ad carrying food westwards ; Little Ringed Plover - 1 - on Top Res ; Common Sandpiper - 8 - 6 on Top Res & 2 flew N over Middle Res at 06:58 hrs ; Black-headed Gull - 21 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 4 ; Ring Ouzel - 1 - Flushed from bush by Bottom Res - bit early so assume a local breeder ; Curlew - 1 - alarming loudly in long grass on Roper Hill - young heard calling ; Swift - 8 - flew
  • RVCP, Main Lake: Whimbrel - 1 - single bird flew north ; Pied Wagtail - 1
  • Silverwood Lagoon: BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 06-Jul - 3-4 adults, 3 juvs. Some of independent juvs now seem to have dispersed from site.
  • Stanley Hill: Swallow - 10
  • Stubley Hollow: Swallow - 26 ; House Sparrow - 18
  • Thrybergh CP: Mute Swan - 33 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Cormorant - 4 ; Great Crested Grebe - 2 ; Tufted Duck - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - C40 ; Herring Gull - 4 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 2 ; Swift - C30 ; House Martin - 2 ; Whitethroat - 2 ; Chiffchaff - 1 ; Reed Warbler - 2 ; Blackcap - 4 ; Pied Wagtail - 6 - 4 juv ; Mistle Thrush - 2 ; Kestrel - 2
  • Upper Ewden: Marsh Harrier - 1 - juvenile being mobbed by 2 Ravens

Friday 8th July 2022

  • Bole Hill Rec: Hobby - 2 - Hobby circling over Bole Hill Park with 20+ swifts in the air. Then folded its wings into a steep dive to mob a second hobby that had joined the scene
  • Ecclesfield: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Low over High Street/Cross Hill junction with prey.
  • Norwood Allotments: Red Kite - 1 - over northwest this afternoon ; Swift - 7 - highest count for weeks, but numbers well down on last year.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Yellow-legged Gull - 1 - Ad ; Barn Owl - 1 - Hunting at 06:45
  • Rawmarsh: Common Buzzard - 1 - soaring over High Street @ 1215hrs; drifted away E
  • Redmires Top Res: Common Sandpiper - 3
  • Stanage Edge: Kestrel - 1
  • Stanage Edge, below: Redstart - 1
  • Wadsley: Swift - 16+ - Feeding over back gardens, largest number seen this year.

Thursday 7th July 2022

  • Aldwarke; Liberty Steels: Peregrine - 1 - soaring over, 1325-1330hrs
  • Castleton: Barn Owl - 1 - Hunting at bottom of Winnats Pass ; Swift - 1 - Low. Looked to be heading into eaves - probable nest site.
  • Chatsworth House: Oystercatcher - 2 - Pair feeding on S lawn close to house
  • Chatsworth, Emperor Lake: Coot - 5 - Adults with 3 young on lake
  • Dog Kennel Pond: Great Crested Grebe - 3 ; Cormorant - 1 - resting on tree top ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Greylag Goose - 18 ; Black-headed Gull - 3+ ; Herring Gull - 1 ; Mallard - 10+ ; Coot - 1+ ; Moorhen - 1 ; Stock Dove - 1 - singing ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Blackbird - 1 - singing ; Blackcap - 1 - singing ; Long-tailed Tit - 1+
  • Dore: House Martin - 8+ - Over centre of village in evening
  • Endcliffe Park: 319 - 1 - Mobbed by crows
  • Low Common: Skylark - 2+ - singing over fields of wheat and barley ; 319 - 2 - over, one calling
  • Loxley Valley: Common Sandpiper - 1 - flying low across Old Wheel Dam
  • Morehall Res: Great Crested Grebe - 3 - adults with juvenile on res.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Ringed Plover - 1 - adult ; Great Crested Grebe - 14 ; Sand Martin - 12 ; House Martin - 8 - Mainly collecting mud on what is left of the plains ; Swift - 6 + - several scooping water from the surface of the lake. ; Linnet - 9 ; Common Tern - 1
  • Oughtibridge: Yellowhammer - 1 - male with mouthful of insects.
  • Parkgate; *Banana* plantation: Blackcap - 1 - singing ; Chiffchaff - 2 - 1 singing ; Kestrel - 1 - circling high over ; Sparrowhawk - present - quiet calling from woodland
  • Rawmarsh; Rockcliffe Road: Swift - c20 - circling over around 0915hrs; drifted away W/SW
  • Rivelin Valley: Kestrel - 3 - Adult flying with 2 juveniles over Coppice Lane .Both calling for food still.
  • Roundwood Golf course: Chiffchaff - 1 - singing
  • Spout House Hill: Golden Plover - 7 - in recently cut hayfield. ; Lapwing - 1 - recently deceased juvenile.
  • Thrybergh; Bluebell Wood: Common Buzzard - 1 - soaring over N end
  • Upper Common, Scholes: Skylark - 1+ - up and singing from wheat field
  • Wharncliffe Side: Pheasant - 1+ - female with several fledged juveniles in roadside verge .

Wednesday 6th July 2022

  • Burbage Valley: Stonechat - 2 - 1 juvenile ; Kestrel - 2 - seen together
