  • Malin Bridge: Blackcap - 1 - male again in garden, feeding on Privet berries.
  • Markham Vale: Mute Swan - 2 - ads flew S ; Herring Gull - 107 - drifted S in one hour ; Snipe - 4 - flushed from flooded area next to Seymour Link Road ; Reed Bunting - 3 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Fieldfare - 30 - flew S ; Redwing - 10 - c.
  • Norton Lees observer’s garden: Redwing - c4 feeding on holly
  • Onesmoor: Common Buzzard - 2 - Over Cliffe House Fm ; Raven - 2 - Overhead and cronking near the Convent ; Golden Plover - 32 - In field by Onesmoor Bottom Rd.
  • Parkgate: Grey Wagtail - 1 - over Broad Street
  • Poolsbrook CP: Tufted Duck - 41 ; Great Crested Grebe - 1 ; House Sparrow - 28 - by feeders in car park
  • Poolsbrook Marsh: Water Rail - 3 - 1 seen briefly and 2 others heard on the far side of the 'signal box' pool - presumably more visible due to high water levels ; Kingfisher - 1 ; Green Woodpecker - 1 - calling ; Meadow Pipit - 2 - flew S ; Cetti's Warbler - 3 - separate birds heard calling ; Dipper - 1 - seen briefly on small pond SE of main pool - flew off and on to the Doe Lea before heading towards Markham Vale - my first here ; Reed Bunting - 7 ; Blackbird - 8
  • Redmires: Starling - c300 - around Wyming Brook Farm.
  • Redmires Middle Res: Barn Owl - 1 - South side of reservoir at 09:30
  • Redmires Top Res: Goldeneye - 1 - female type briefly on top res, flew towards middle res.
  • Rotherham; Northfield: Herring Gull - c50 - visiting recycling centre & loafing on rooftops ; Great Black-backed Gull - 80+ - visiting recycling centre & loafing on rooftops; vast majority adults, including colour-ringed bird 3K6B (yellow) ringed at Harewood Whin landfill site W of York on 19/01/2018 with no sightings in between

  • Aston: Pink-footed Goose - 120 - West at 13:00
  • Black Lane, Tankersley: Goldfinch - 8 ; Meadow Pipit - 7 ; Yellowhammer - 8 - in hedge/tree near main road
  • Canklow Woods: Pink-footed Goose - 112 - flew west at 14:40
  • Damflask Res: Woodpigeon - c20 - hunched/perched in tree ; Jackdaw - c30 - flock moving about the area ; Blue Tit - 3+ ; Mallard - 8+ - 3 probable pairs seen by dam ; Blackbird - 2 ; Great Black-backed Gull - 8+ - adults and juveniles resting and preening on water, with a few moving off and being replaced by others, or the same ones ; Herring Gull - 5+ - adults and juveniles resting on water ; Black-headed Gull - 25+ - resting on water ; Cormorant - 1 - perched on buoy
